And I felt so bad for Jessica when she realized she'd be a virgin for the rest of her years. That would seriously suck. I mean, what a great twist to throw into their relationship! Way to go writers!

To be honest, my wife and I found this episode to be kinda lame.
All of the conflict just petered out and it felt like godrick was pulling a deus ex machina both in the temple and with Lorena. "I am the authority. Everyone just sit around and twiddle your thumbs."
I'm also getting tired of Maryann. I get it. She makes people fuck and hit each other. Please to go somewhere with this soon.
The Jessica thing is fucking stupid.
I'm not saying the episode was a total loss, just not what I had wanted to see after last week's build-up. 8/10/2009 8:42:59 AM |

more thoughts...
Jason had some great moments and lines in this episode...re: Judas "What did he ever do to you?" and to Bill "Was that good for you?"
Eric pretending to be human with a country accent was hilarious. Eric overall was solid this episode. A lot of range for him expanding his character (which you see more of in the books) in this episode. Between seeing him around his maker and taking a subservient role, seeing him protect Sookie, being so old and so far removed from his human form that he obviously doesn't understand feelings anymore, seeing his possessiveness over Sookie to Bill, and then back to the authoritative role disciplining Jason.
IMO Godric, by his stance on human/vampire relations, will never ever "wreck some shit" on anyone. He looked so remorseful and detached from the whole scene sitting in that chair, only engaging when someone approached him (cept for the Sookie/Lorena spat), that I don't think we've seen the last of him in a white ceremonial robe.
watching Maryann cut up the heart (yeah it was a bell pepper) and then Tara and Eggs eat that thing was the nastiest visual I've ever seen on cable TV. BLLLLLUUUUUAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Poor Sam
OK! Jessica and her growing back hymen...my reasoning for thinking it's retarded and not the:
Quote : | "Worst. Affliction. Ever. I'm just saying." |
is this. See, I wouldn't know what that's like. I can't say for sure when mine broke but it definitely wasn't the 1st time I had sex. But, I can imagine how that would suck. So after more thought on the matter, instead of me thinking "man that's kinda cheesy" I'm going to go with this route. Up until now, Jessica has really enjoyed being a vampire (aside from Bill being a dick)...she's glad she's away from her father, she's more free, and meeting Hoyt which she wouldn't have if she hadn't become a vamp has been the happiest moment of her life. If this is what they're gonna use to throw a kink in to her fun fest, then I'll take it.

Yeah the Maryanne stuff is starting to get old. Something needs to happen with that.
I think they handled Godric very well. It seems that the oldest and wisest vampire we know is also the most humane. It seems that after thousands of years of living in violence and stuff, he just wants peace. And I'm sure there is gonna be a way for them to work in Godric wrecking some shit. Maybe he'll end up fighting Maryanne or something?
That line that Jason said to Steve "I've already been to Heaven... when I was inside your wife" or whatever, that was pretty good. Also, awkward talk between Jason and Bill was kinda funny. 8/10/2009 9:29:31 AM |

yeah definitely Bill.
We got the Ratrays, Sookie's uncle, Long Shadow, Jessica*, the couple in the flashback with Lorena...am I missing some? Huh...didn't think about the first 4. All of those to protect or avenge Sookie. I didn't even put that together with Eric saying last night that Bill would kill anyone, even children, for her.
Renee with the 3 waitresses and Gran is the next one.
Eric has had just one and Maryann with 2 (though we don't see it by her own hands)

elkaybie All American 39626 Posts user info edit post |
No, I didn't take my thought on the matter that far.
All I'm saying is yes, we've seen a wounded human turned vamp healed post turn. And I also said that I thought this hymen affliction being the most retarded Jessica twist ever, but if it throws a kink in her "yay no more dick daddy!!" freedom then I'm all for it. I think BC she had her hymen in tact b4 becoming a vampire, it will definitely heal back everytime. Eric is also 1000 years old, so who am I to say my response is immediate fix all.
I will say this...and it's no big deal that it's a book spolier bc Alan Ball has said this character will never ever surface (it's an image rights thing and just too tricky he says). In the books, they say sometimes turning a vamp goes well and sometimes it doesn't. In the case of Bubba, it went wrong. Bubba is the name this vampire prefers to go by--he is really Elvis. The story is a vampire worked in the morgue where he was taken, and he saw a flicker of life in him so he turned elvis to a vamp. Bc of the drugs in his system, he wasn't all there as a vampire...and liked to feed on small animals. They kinda babysit him, and when he gets seen they send him somewhere else (explains the sightings ). Point being...sometimes the change goes one way, someimes it doesn't. That may explain why Eric healed, Jessica will always have a hymen, and other female camps have there cherry popped state. That point being there aren't always absolutes. 8/10/2009 8:41:41 PM |

I agree, it doesn't make any goddamn sense. And they could have found a better way to turn Jessica back into a whiny bitch. Maybe have her accidentally bite Hoyte, freaking him out and having him run away. That would bum her out and eventually build up to a scene where Hoyte "lets" her bite him. Instead they take the easy way out. 8/10/2009 9:05:05 PM |

yep, maybe the weakest of the season, or at least in bottom 2 or 3. The first ~35 minutes completely fell flat for me.... the confrontation in the sanctuary was just lame. totally weak on all sides. And a lot of the lines and actions were at early Season 1 cheese-ball levels And Tara/Eggs eating the heart pie thing? Really? Could you get any more cliche than that?
Quote : | ""watching Maryann cut up the heart (yeah it was a bell pepper) and then Tara and Eggs eat that thing was the nastiest visual I've ever seen on cable TV. BLLLLLUUUUUAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "" |
nah, not even close. It was so predicable, and overly done (really? does anyone actually eat like that?) Now, when Lafayette chomped into a severed leg back in ~E02-3, now that may have been one of the worst visuals, and audio effects, ever on TV.
Plus, nobody has ever explained how the traitor was able to hide his thoughts from Sookie, right? They went out of their way a couple eps ago to have Sookie read his mind, and he was pure.
oh well. we'll see what happens next week.

I wasn't really following you before, rwoody. But your original statement makes sense.
We've seen nothing in the series to suggest that old, healed injuries are restored to some other state. However, new/current injuries are healed when there is vampire blood in a person's system. Whether they are a vampire or drink vampire blood.
Eric had current wounds that were healed, not old/already healed wounds. As did Lafayette.
That being said, I'm with rwoody that old injuries probably do not return to a "good" state. Old scars remain, etc. That, or they have to say all female vampires have intact hymens and it's just something vampire chicks have to learn to deal with. Otherwise, they fucked up. The second option wouldn't necessarily surprise me. Jessica's character is sort of there to show what it is like to transition from human to vampire. Surely there are more drawbacks other than not being able to go out in daylight. Maybe perma-hymen is one of 'em.
There is a way around this, but it's pretty far-fetched. I'm fairly certain that hymen tissue cannot regenerate like regular skin. Considering that, they could say that vampires are kept in the same outer physical shape (not condition, but geometric shape) they were in when they were turned. Basically, that they will always look exactly like they did when they were turned (minus skin tone) and that this is not the same as the healing power. That would allow for a quad to be healed, and still explain why Jessica's hymen is there again.
I know they're probably not going to go that route. but i'm trying to provide an easy out. And being a quadriplegic vampire would suck.

Sookie has said she can only hear people's thoughts on what they are thinking at that moment before (as far back as S1 IIRC) and put up a wall to block or focus on just a few people's thoughts at a time. It's when she touches them that she can hear people's thoughts or read their mind from past events. Sookie's mistake in not reading his mind further than their initial meeting at the hotel (which he was probably thinking about how much he loved Isabel on purpose) and while she was at FOTS investigating w/ him was b/c she made the mistake in trusting him. It's not that he was hiding them, it's that she wasn't listening.

i think everyone is focusing too much on the hymen regeneration. In addition to that, Jessica went back to her pure virgin state, meaning it would hurt to have sex, hymen or not. They focused on the hymen growing back on the show, or that was what was implied, but I think we can assume that all of her lady-business was more-or-less "reset" to its virgin condition. 8/11/2009 10:24:08 AM |

If you're saying this because you know the story already then please keep it in the book/show thread. Based on the recent character developments it seems possible that Godric may be willing to sacrifice himself in some way for the "greater good," but there hasn't been any indication that this would be happening from the information we are given in the show.8/11/2009 12:17:59 PM |

It's not really the plot hole aspect that bugs me (we're talking about a show with vampires and shapeshifters), it's just a really lame direction to take the Jessica/Hoyte relationship. Maximum shock value with no real thought behind it, there were kids on forums everywhere before this episode saying "lol, i wonder if stays a virgin forever". It's not like it's even that big of a problem. I'm sure there is some vampire drug/pain killer she can get hopped up on or just FHUTA.

Nope...I'm saying that based on what I took from the events and character development that the show has given me.
I do know what happens in the books, but b/c of that I also know that AB has strayed a lot from the books this season so my guess is as good as anyone with how the show goes. I am able to enjoy both stories differently and separately...yes I get excited when AB does keep elements from the book in the show that I enjoyed, but overall they are different and anything I say in here is really and honestly my critique and feeling from the show. Not the books.
When I said "I don't think we've seen the last of him in a white ceremonial robe" I meant it metaphorically, not literally. There is something off and Jesus-like about Godric's character IN THE SERIES that I don't think we've seen the last of him in a similar manner.8/11/2009 1:36:12 PM |
