When you count on a ref to win a game for you, you've fucked yourself.

Drogba should be looking in a mirror when he says it's a fucking disgrace because he could have killed the tie off when he had a WIDE OPEN CHANCE six yards out.

Look at the 50/50 penalties all you want, but they were a man up* for about a half an hour... they have nobody to blame but themselves for not killing the game off on their own.

*on an absolute bullshit red card

dude you can't discount the 2 handballs in the box that the ref missed. drogba might be playing for pks, but chelsea deserved to win that game in every way. barcelona played like complete shit in both games, i dont care what their reputation is, and chelsea should be the ones moving on. they fucked up, theres no doubt about it, and shouldve put the game away when they were a man up, but all those calls missed in the box don't make up for 1 bad red card.

The two egregious errors were the red card, and handball in the ~80th min. The one Ballack was complaining about hit eto'o in the side and it bounced into his arm pit, not a handball.

Chelsea were jobbed almost as bad as the Red Wings were last night. UEFA didn't want another all EPL final.

Don't get me wrong Chelsea had their chances and didn't capitalize, but there were 2 obvious spot kicks that should have been called and the one in the 80th minute wasn't called because of the refs terrible red card.

That Ref should never see another major competition game again he should be refing junior leagues from here on out.

ManUre will win because they will do exactly what they did last season against Barca play safe and counter when the opportunity presents itself.

Time for Chelsea to put all their hands on deck for the FA Cup Final and at least come away with some silverware and try to catch Liverpool for second.

^ I didn't see the post-game bullshit but from what I can tell Drogba made a complete ass out of himself, and the Ballack gif up there should have been a red card.

^I didn't get to see that game today, I was working on some shit.

I haven't seen the Iniesta goal, either.

Everything I've read just about everywhere says that Chelsea got robbed of their chances, though.

Everyone was saying that Messi was MIA, too, which doesn't surprise me at all after the first game. He did have to vision to pass Iniesta the ball on an open shot, though. I suppose you have to give him a scrap of credit for that.

Basically I think that by Barca being in the final, the tie has been handed to United on a silver platter. As a fan of the game itself, above being a United fan, that's pretty fucking lame. At least Chelsea would've made a show of it. There is no way in my mind that United don't tear Barca to shreds.

Sounds like a wild finish. I'm glad to see Chelsea lose, so we don't have to watch the same final as last year.

btw, did anyone just watch the end of LA vs RSL in the MLS? LA tied on a PK in the 90th minute and then gave up a PK about 1 minute later and RSL was up 2-1 and then LA tied the game at 2-2 about a minute before the game was over. A wild 4 minutes of injury time.

but I've played my whole life and been exposed to thousands of people who played and are fans, and i can count the number of true United supporters I've ever met on one hand, including myself. and two of the others post here.

I don't get where all the anti-United vitriol comes from, especially here, when everyone and their fucking brother calls us bandwagoners and all they seem to be riding the lolverpool trolley.

But there are a lot of bandwagon fans in the USA, but I know you're not. It would still be kind of cool if they lost because I could poke fun at some people that I know. I don't really care who wins any league in the world besides I hate to see Mexico win.

^^ Maybe that's what it is. Maybe i just automatically rule those folks out.

I know i was at Ruckus for the first leg of the semis, and there was some kid in there watching the game, getting absolutely animated - but when it got down to brass tacks, you could tell he didnt know much of what he was talking about.

trying to berate Ronaldo for not passing the ball instead of taking the shot on that absolute scorcher he slammed against the crossbar - I mean, it's not like he's not the WPOY and scored 42 fucking goals last season

talking shit about Anderson not being a goalscorer, wondering loudly (and stupidly) why United had paid so much money for him if he "wasn't going to score goals" - irrespective of the fact that Anderson bossed the midfield that entire game, and he was brought in to play the Scholes role, which might see 4-5 goals a year, if you're lucky

and to top it off, he left before the game was even over

and if that kid actually happens to be one of you guys, on the off chance:

fuck you. you give the real supporters a REALLY BAD fucking name.

I might sort of agree with this if you're taking into account that Barca will have both their fullbacks and one of their centerbacks out. But even so, I don't think it's a foregone conclusion by any means. I'd put my money on Man U if I had to put it somewhere...but personally I think Barca will rise to the occasion and make it a game, and I think it's very much in doubt.

And thanks, DD; I'm always glad when players from teams I don't like blow their tops and make themselves and their squads look bad.

The final will either be a goalfest or a United romp-fest.

I'm hoping that United will attack the weak Barca defense from the get-go instead of waiting for chances and countering. I mean, they could sit around like Chelsea did but Barca is Barca and they can score goals. It makes more sense to me to come out and get your own goals early but I'm not a world class manager like Sir so we'll see. I wouldn't be so quick to just hand United the title either (although they are heavy favorites) - Barca was without 2 of the 3 defenders they'll miss in the final and a man down for 30 minutes, in a venue where the home team hadn't lost for 3 years in the competition, without Henry, without a shot on goal, their best player was nonexistent, and they came through when it mattered.

And Barca is losing Alves (who cares if he plays like he did yesterday, but yes I know he's good) and Abidal... but they're getting Puyol back (not THAT big of a deal but he is a veteran) and I thought Toure filled in nicely for Marquez... so it's a weak defense but not amateur league status.

PLUS, they're getting Henry back who I think would've made a huge difference yesterday because Messi and Iniesta (when he's not hammering home injury time winners) dribble way too much. Henry will force a defense to open up a little bit from time to time.

I'm not automatically conceding it to United, but it's going to be tough for Barca.

I think United will play a 4-5-1.

Ronaldo will be bombing down the right since Abidal is out, and Rooney will be on the left against whoever replaces Alves, I'm sure. Hopefully Tevez will start in the center. If he does, you know United will be going for blood from the onset.

Everyone discounts Pique, but he was good enough to play for United last year, so I still hold him in high regard. I don't think that He and Puyol will be good enough to stop United's front men on their own, though.

Puyol is not that good of a central defender - he's like John Terry in the sense that he is Barca's spiritual leader. What he lacks in skill, he makes up for in drive.... but I don't know if drive is going to be enough this time around.

In the midfield I'd expect to see Anderson, Carrick, and Scholes. That'll be a tough matchup with Iniesta, Xavi, and Toure, who are clearly better at holding on to the ball.

I don't think , with the exception of Eto'o, that Barca's front line can handle United's back line. All it seems to take to get Messi off his game is being physical with him. If Evra doesn't do it, Vidic will be more than happy to knock the shit out of the little man. Henry has lost a step, and won't be able to pip those easy goals, because in contrast, Rio hasn't.

I'm pretty sure United will go for blood, and once they get 2, set up shop in front of the goal.

It looks like there might be some hope for Fletcher's red to get overturned.

To be fair, I think UEFA should look at Abidal's, too, if they are gonna go about second guessing the referees.

yeah, they should DEFINITELY look at Abidal's. while Fletcher's red was unjust, Abidal's was just straight up bogus.

and i wouldn't discount Pique either. he played a pretty good game yesterday, but you are right, it's going to be tough for him and Puyol to stop united.

I'm not an expert on Puyol by any means, but he looked pretty damned solid for Spain in Euro 2008. And he was voted to the World XI for 2008, which would seem to imply that he is one of the best center-backs in the world.

From a Barca point of view, I'd rather see Tevez for Man U than Berbatov; Tevez works his ass off, but in a game of this magnitude I'd be more worried about the little pieces of brilliance in which Berbatov specializes.

Interesting point about Messi being shut down by Man U's physicality; that might be spot on. I heard Derek Rae remark that in La Liga, fouls are called for a lot less than they are called for in the Premier League and Europe; and really Barcelona didn't seem to have their shit together: maybe the key to jamming their precision machine is, in fact, just to knock them around a bit. They're all about one-touch passing, but against Man U they were giving their one-touch passes away a lot more frequently than I would've expected.
