kotchman with a 3 run shot and mccann with the solo homer. Kelly Johnson is 2-3 with 2 doubles and a walk. Lowe went 6 "good" innings.

Umpire (Jerry Meals - what a gay name) deserves some flack for that HR by Gload. Soriano's 1st pitch was clearly a strike and called a ball. Then on a 1-1 count, Soriano throws another close pitch, called a ball again. Next pitch is high so now it is 3-1 and Soriano grooved a fastball on 3-1 that Gload killed.

Obviously shit like this happens in every game, but Soriano was just not getting the calls. I am still surprised that McCann/Soriano went fastball on 3-1 when 1st base was open. A walk would not have been the end of world in that situation other than it puts the winning run on base. Oh well.

If the Braves win tonight, I'll be pretty shocked. We've got Mr. 5 innings (kawakami) going and the Marlins bring one of the best RHs in the NL in Josh Johnson who is basically unhittable at home.

The Braves granted righty Jeff Bennett his release after he asked for it, according to the AP (via ESPN). The 29-year-old had allowed 42 hits and 21 walks in 34 innings this year, striking out 23 for an ERA of 3.18. Bennett broke a bone in his left hand last month when he punched a door after a loss to the Yankees.

Escobar, Prado, and Church hurt...sheesh

One day after Bennett broke his non-pitching hand with his fit of rage, the Braves suspended his pay. This led the 29-year-old reliever to file a grievance, which he may pursue through the Major League Baseball Players Association.

wow, i like bennett. dude can start if you need him to, or throw good innings out of the pen. we need that as much as we can get it. maybe kawakami can take his place though when huddy comes back, that dude sucks.

Which means if Prado can't go tonight, Norton will be playing 1st base.

I don't know how I feel about this trade...

Why did Atlanta get him back? I don't like this trade. He *might* generate more offense at first than Kotchman, but I doubt he can replicate his defense. I don't think Kotchman has even made an error as a Brave.

Clearly the Braves play through the first 4 weeks of July was a mirage and simply not sustainable. Last 7 games, we have looked like we did in May-June and the offense has gone back to complete shit.

Oh well false hope is better than no hope at all. Trading for LaRoche was a waste in my opinion. He is a 2nd half player normally, but follow this circle:

1. We trade LaRoche for Mike Gonzalez.
2. Left with a hole at 1B, we struggle most of 2007 until we finally trade most of our farm system for Texeira.
3. Texeira is traded for Kotchman in July 2008, making the Tex trade probably one of the worst moves in the past 20 years for the Braves.
4. Kotchman is traded for LaRoche.

Fucking stupid. Teams like the Braves that are hovering around .500 as the Braves have been the past 4 years at the trade deadline should not try and get guys like Texeira. Teams that are actually good like the Phillies or Red Sox should be doing those trades.

Maybe one day when the Braves are back in 1st at a trading deadline, I'll be hoping they pull off the big trade like the Phils did this week. Right now I just want them to not sacrifice the future which it looks like Wren has done by standing relatively pat this trade deadline.

Dunno if anybody caught it last night, but Neftali Feliz threw for the Rangers last night in relief. We traded him to them (along with Salty, Andrus, and Harrison, and one other) for Teixiera.

Anyways, dude was lights out, throwin about 98-101. Glad we have....Adam LaRoche back after all that.

we're not catchin philly. hopefully one of those central teams will fall off a little (doubtful) and I don't really know if the rockies or marlins will keep it up, but the giants should be pretty strong too.

Rockies already lost today, that can't hurt. Philly's already run away with our division, only shot is the wild card.

wow. soriano's been lights out all year. hate that it happened, but he was due for one of these. his ERA went above 2 for the first time this season. that's pretty damn impressive. it was still a win we needed with florida, st louis, and chicago all losing today. i'll keep looking, but i'm 99% sure we're out of it now..

we need to go about 35-16 to make the playoffs. SF is on pace to win 90 games. a real hot last two months would do it though.

WORST FUCKING UMPIRE EVER!!!

The son of a bitch even calls it a strike, McCann makes a beautiful throw to get the other guy for a double play, then once the guy gets thrown out all of a sudden its a ball, and instead its first and second with no outs.

And then has the nerve to throw Cox out.

http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=5982611

You have to watch this..

This guy deserves a public beating.

Yeah, I....that looked strange to me. It appeared almost as if he waited to see if Furcal was going to be out before changing the call. The arm motion was indicative of a ball or a walk, only a strike. But nothing ever happens to umpires. Talk about autonomy.

i hope that ump gets sent back to hs ball. that is some fucking bullshit. its not even like he missed a strike and called it a ball, he called the motherfucking strike. i think baseball would be the damn hardest thing ever to fix as a sport, but i can't help but think that in a 2-2 game, maybe getting furcal to 2nd and a 3-2 count would have benefited somethin. i hope not, but who ever really knows..
