damn right. Ya gotta feel like the Falcons will be most of the pundits favorites, but we are returning a large part of that 12-4 team (yes, even Jake - phuck u haters).

Schlereth just named Everett Brown as the "rookie defensive player most likely to succeed this year" on NFL Primetime.... says he understands the pass rush better than any other D linemen in the draft

^^Hard to say what the Yuc's will be like, but you gotta think the Aints will look pretty good.

I think Atl will be a little over-hyped on last years success and probably will win fewer games this year than last.

The Saints are the best Madden team by far in the division

Just like the Culpepper-Moss-Bennett Vikings

Just like the Palmer-Housh-Ocho Cinco Bengals

"Ten early Panther observations
May 3, 2009 - 11:39 PM
Steve Reed
CHARLOTTE - Keep in mind it's extremely difficult to tell all that much about the incoming rookies, especially when the team is practicing in shorts. That said, here are some early camp observations:

1. RB Mike Goodson looked very quick running from the slot position. I like his speed.

2. OG Duke Robinson is a pretty big guy, but still not as big as Jeff Otah. I think he might turn out to be the steal of this draft for the Panthers when we look back in a few years.

3. I was really impressed with the physicality and speed of KR Larry Beavers. I'm real anxious to see this kid in pads.

4. As I said, it's tough to judge linemen, but first-round pick DE Everette Brown looked like he had a very quick first step and he should help on the pass rush. Brown doesn't look all that big next to the rest of the linemen - in fact, dare I say, looks a little small - but you can tell right away there's a confidence about him.

5. CB Sherrod Martin did well in coverage drills. There's some promise there, along with CB Captain Munnerlyn.

6. Here's a guy to keep an eye on - DT Marlon Favorite. He's 6-foot-1 and 317 pounds and seems to play with good leverage. He got one of the higher signing bonuses for an undrafted rookie. DT Corvey Irvin looked quick and strong during pass-rush drills. Speaking of DTs, DT Lonnie Harvey got ripped during individual drills by new defensive line coach Brian Baker on Sunday.

7. One guy you've never heard of, WR Marcus Monk, is an enormous target who looks much bigger than 6-foot-4 and 212 pounds. He's been around the league a little bit and I'm interested to see him play. He looks a little like Panther Walter Young, but quicker.

8. Jeff Otah and Maake Kemoeatu look like they ate well during the off-season.

9. Ryne Robinson looked fast during receiver drills, hauling in a long pass from rookie QB Hunter Cantwell, who looks like he has a great arm.

10. As for the long snappers, I have no idea. They all look the same to me, like three guys cut from the same mold. We'll have to see how they perform in games. Unless, of course, Jason Kyle signs and then that's the end of that."

Panthers signed KR Larry Beavers

Quote :
"The undrafted rookie from Division III Wesley College is hoping to stick as a return man. That he averaged 39.5 yards per kickoff return and 29.2 per punt return as a senior would seem to indicate he's got a chance. He left as the NCAA's all-division record-holder with 10 kickoff return touchdowns and 13 total runbacks for scores. Throw in the 19.9 yards per catch and 28 receiving touchdowns, and his stat sheet takes on a cartoonish, video game-style impossibility.

Anytime a player is coming from a DIII school they must have at least one oustanding aspect to their game. For Beavers, it's his world-class speed. There's a video of him on Youtube running a 4.28 40-yard dash, and his coach clocked him once at 4.25. Larry Beavers is not just super fast, he has good field vision and ankle breaking moves in the open field. While he may never contribute much as a receiver, he is going to battle Ryne Robinson for the job of returner in training camp and could have an immediate impact in 2009.
"

That would be some nice starting position. Def hope that transfers over to the regular season. Those kind of numbers and averages can strike fear into a coverage team.

interview with D Will!

Quote :
" Q: Offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson and some of the other offensive coaches have lost a substantial amount of weight. What happened?

A: They had their own ‘the biggest loser' here. A lot of guys shed a lot of weight. They've done a great job. They've dedicated themselves in the weight room, in the sauna and the steam room. They stepped away from the Krispy Kreme and the Dunkin' Donuts.

Q: Are you and Jonathan Stewart committed to the nickname “Double Trouble” this season?

A: We are. It's trademarked by us and not somebody else. We let those guys in Tennessee (LenDale White and Chris Johnson) have ‘Smash & Dash,' even though we made it famous.

Q: How do you and Jonathan encore what really was a smashing season?

A: I don't know if we can encore or not, but we're going to try our best – encore from the sense of making it to the playoffs and going deeper in the playoffs this year and ultimately going to the Super Bowl. Stats only matter if you're winning.

Q: Some fans reacted negatively to the team signing quarterback Jake Delhomme to a contract extension after his poor playoff performance against Arizona. What was the players' reaction?

A: We love Jake. That's our quarterback, contrary to what our fans believe – or those non-fans who call themselves fans. Jake's a great quarterback, he knows the system in and out. Every guy has a bad game at some point in his career.

Q: What's been the highlight of your offseason so far?

A: Probably the (Orlando) Magic beating the (Cleveland) Cavs last night. I'm going to get my Dwight Howard jersey tonight. I'm not a LeBron (James) guy.

Q: What do you think of attending your first NASCAR race during the weekend?

A: I went, I saw, they delayed the race, I went home. That's pretty much how it went for me. I was ready for it. I was out there. They were saying you're going to get a rush. I had my ear plugs in. I was waiting for ‘Drivers, start your engines,' and then it started raining. (They said) it would take them 21/2 hours to dry the track.

Well, it takes me 15 minutes to make it home, so I took the latter of the two and went home – and they still didn't race until Monday. "

Quote :
"Everette Brown's ability to become an impact player in the NFL depends largely on his ability to match up well against much bigger blockers.

He's getting a lot of dress rehearsal time during the Carolina Panthers' summer school practices.

Though the Panthers won't have full contact in pads until after training camp opens Aug. 2, Brown's already learning from facing massive right tackle Jeff Otah.

Brown is a 6-foot-1, 256-pound defensive end with good speed and quickness, but he's dwarfed by the 6-6, 330-pound Otah.

“It's been great competition,” Brown said Tuesday. “Definitely, I think it puts me ahead of the learning curve in the long run, going against one of the best.

“It's really making me work on my technique.”

Brown said he's already discovered that some of the moves he used in college at Florida State won't be nearly as effective in the pros.

The Panthers showed how much they value Brown's pass-rushing ability by trading a 2010 first-round pick in order to select him in the second round of April's draft.

A year earlier, they invested their 2009 first-rounder in a package to select Otah with the 19th pick in the 2008 first round.

Now they are testing their skills against each other.

For Otah, it's a chance to face a much swifter opponent.

“He's a real good player,” Otah said of Brown. “He's got real good quickness and he's got that unexpected strength (that) he doesn't look like (he'd have). He's going to be a real good player for us.”

According to NFL.com, Brown's 40-yard dash time of 4.73 seconds was fourth best among defensive linemen at the league's scouting combine in February. He also fared well in the strength category, with 26 bench press repetitions of 225 pounds. That was tied for 19th among defensive ends and tackles.

Even though Otah hasn't faced Brown in pads yet, he said Brown should be able to hold up as a run defender despite being smaller than many NFL defensive ends.

“He's going to be fine,” said Otah. “He's getting better. Every day I go against him, he learns something new. The coaches are doing a good job (with) him.”

Brown is expected to play mostly left defensive end for the Panthers if, as expected, franchise free agent defensive end Julius Peppers rejoins the team in training camp. Peppers plays mostly on the right side.

In college, Brown played primarily on the right side and is also getting practice time there, which pits him against Carolina left tackle Jordan Gross.

Otah said he's been impressed so far with Brown's pass-rushing moves.

“He has a real good speed and dip,” said Otah. “He knows how to stop and go.”

Brown said getting a quick first step will be a key to overcoming the size disadvantage he'll have against offensive tackles.

“It's going to come down to me getting a great take-off and playing with good leverage, and ultimately me getting into him before he gets into me so that the weight factor won't take over as quickly,” said Brown.

Briefly

Panthers middle linebacker Jon Beason said the man who previously played his position, Dan Morgan, is underappreciated because of the injuries that plagued his career. Morgan was a standout for the Panthers before recurring injuries led the team to release him. Morgan came out of retirement to play for New Orleans this season, but decided this week to retire for good after calf problems limited his minicamp participation."

but why on earth would the saints give up drew brees?

vick would have to do incredible just to match the production of the qb they already have.

i really don't buy Vick coming in just for 5-10 snaps a game. some other team would be willing to let him start, so why would he take a limited role?

but yeah, beating vick again would be pretty rad.
