There's such a double standard by fans and the media. When Neville does it, he's just showing "passion" but when Adebayor does it, it's a totally different thing and he needs a ban. Fucking ridiculous.
The more I read about it and the more I see it... the more I think it's awesome. Yeah, he had some motivational issues at Arsenal but he still scored over 40+ goals for them. He was booed a lot last year, he's been trashed in the media all season by any Arsenal fan, saying how they won't miss him and he's overrated... and he wanted to stick it to them.
It's just too bad he actually does deserve a lengthy ban for the stomp nonsense so I can't defend him too much. 9/16/2009 7:56:16 AM |

he wasnt treated nearly as bad at any game as eboue was last year that one game where he gave up an own goal or had a red card or something. i forgot what he did but the fans were letting him have it worse than ive seen on anyone's own player...but eboue has stayed classy about it. adebayor, however, is a little bitch who cant stop crying.

My question--what if he scored the goal on the opposite side of the pitch and celebrated the same way? He would have gotten the same shit for it. I think Neville summed it up pretty well in his quote about the FA wanting them to play like robots.
Yeah yeah yeah, riots blah blah blah. I understand that it might help provoke one, but the fact is almost all are started between supporters of opposing sides. Sucks for the steward who got hit, but chances are if Adebayor scored on the opposing sideline, the Aresnal fans would have been throwing shit at him anyway. Should we blame the players for that too? Maybe they should just cause all games to be 0-0 draws so that no one ever gets angry at a player's goal.
The stomp on van Persie was blatantly intentional. You can see Adebayor's head change focus towards van Persie's head after sliding through and then Adebayor's toe come up and his heel stomp on the ground.
Overall, I think Adebayor is a piece of shit, scumbag of a player. However, I still don't think he should be crucified for the celebration. He definitely should for the stomp though. 9/16/2009 1:33:42 PM |

I'm not sure how that's "sticking up for Arsenal," seems like you're mostly hating on Adebayor
'Arry knows what I'm talking about...
Quote : | ""I've got no time for people kicking anybody or being violent on the pitch and he was wrong to run the length of the field," Redknapp said. "But it's very difficult when you're getting abuse through the game like he was. It's not celebrating a goal that cause riots, it's idiots who want to start riots. What did Adebayor do, really? If I had been standing there and we had been giving him grief all game, I would probably say: 'Fair play.' I'm not saying it's right, what Adebayor did, but what nutters want to cause riots? Why do people need to shout abuse? Why can't they just watch a game of football? There must be something wrong with you if you want to do that." " |

adebayor is an idiot, but his celebration is nothing. he got a yellow card, maybe he'll get a little fine, but thats all he should get. getting suspended for just celebrating is dumb, if you can't enjoy a goal you scored then why score. he didn't do anything, and the fans are the idiots in this case. if they are going to physically hurt someone for scoring a goal in a game, no matter how passionate you are about that game, then obviously they are in the wrong. adebayor deserves his ban for the stomp on van persie (who would've probably got a red card on that same tackle on adebayor if he wouldve connected with it) but they should just forget about the celebration because arsenal fans are just as much in the wrong. 9/17/2009 12:53:31 PM |

no one wouldve gone nuts had he not ran 100 yards to the other end of the stadium. they wouldve just been upset. adebayor was the spark that started the fire. adebayor is the EPL's terrell owens. cries if nothing goes his way, somehow still cries when things do go his way. and no one likes him

Nope, common misconception. You get 30 seconds per goal, and 30 per substitution, and subs in stoppage time still count.
There were 3 United substitutions, 1 City sub, so that makes 2 minutes right there. There were 2 City goals (1 minute) plus 2 United goals (1 minute) for another 2 minutes, stoppage time at 4 minutes total, without factoring in the stoppage time from United's 10 second half corners, plus throw-ins...
the ability to add to stoppage time doesn't stop once you've gone over 90 minutes.9/20/2009 10:43:35 AM |
JTMONEYNCSU All American 24529 Posts user info edit post |
stoppage time if you actually add it up with all the time wasted and goals scored was prob spot on. owen was in perfect position. not even close to being offsides and what a sublime finish.
Here is my tww emotion for the 2nd half:
city wont have what it takes to go all the way this year...outside of their strikers, they are thin in every other position on the field...they will get injuries. its gonna happen. hughes is lucky as hell berbatov has the curse of diego forlan on him or else he wouldve looked stupid for not doing anything tactically different while united were killing them in that 20-30 min period. even the players on the field were motioning/yelling at him.

we can talk about injuries all day in that chelsea/tottenham game, but is there any surprise there was 8 minutes of stoppage time with drogba falling over every 10 seconds (well i gues the answer is yes, since thats every game). 9/20/2009 11:46:08 PM |

haha yeah i think i made a comment about 8 mins of stoppage time again in a chelsea game with jadn earlier today. im hoping drogba hurt his calf long enough so that i dont have to see him fall over and act hurt for at least a few weeks.
Enchilada is saying its a cramp last i read, and if thats so, drogba is a pussy for the way he had to go off the field with a cramp. it looked much worse than that.
also, for the manchester derby, im pretty sure fletcher got man of the match, but honestly he didnt do too much in the middle for them. he got man of the match for the 2 headers. imo, the man of the match shouldve gone to giggs. the welsh wizard was unstoppable on the left wing today. im pretty sure he got a hat trick of assists and had a stellar half volley denied by given. that play where he nutmegged richards maybe then cut inside then back outside on ireland i believe to get the cross of for berbatov's header to be saved (great save too) was classic giggs of 10 years ago. he looks like he has another year, maybe 2 in him still to be able to play a whole game at the level the 2nd half was. giggs just wont let his age catch up to him and im not gonna complain about it :p
last thing. im pretty sure this game will be on Fan Zone on FSC. i have no idea when that comes on anymore since i havent seen an episode this season but it should make for a great show. prob sometime mon-wed night around 8 is when it will come on. im gonna be lookin out for it. also get a chance to actually see most of the game on tv rather than stupid ass internet at 9am

The whole '30 seconds per' isn't written in stone anywhere. It's completely up to the referee to add how however much he wants to for each instance. I do think the stoppage time was appropriate though (based on what reports I've read and the goals, subs, etc). Just curious for those who watched the entire thing, how much longer did they play after the Owen goal?9/21/2009 9:59:18 AM |

The Premier League review show said the 4th official showed 4 minutes of added time, but the tying goal from City was right before the full 90 minutes and that the ref deemed the celebration excessive and added 55 seconds to the stoppage time along with the 30 sec for the substitution. 9/21/2009 10:16:20 AM |
aimorris All American 15213 Posts user info edit post |
didn't the Bellamy fan incident come after the goal? Surely that would have delayed the restart more than 30 seconds, no?
I'm not trying to argue about the validity of the added time before the goal. I just think it's funny that we're counting seconds of celebrations to determine the exact amount of time that should be allowed. When has added time ever been so precise? Which is one argument I've had to listen to from non-soccer fans for quite a while, and even though there isn't a real excuse except that's just how it's done, I've never really been against having the referee keep the time on the field.

The Bellamy incident came after the game, I think.
and I was going to give him benefit of the doubt on it, but if you watch the video, the guy is subdued by both arms by at least 3 stewards by the time Bellamy walks 5 yards to punch him in the face.
Sure the fan doesn't belong on the field, and if he hadn't been wrangled by the stewards, then I would've applauded any player who took him down themselves. But he was caught, in no way a danger to the players anymore, and in the process of being hauled off. That makes Bellamy's hit assault, and I hope they throw the book at him.
Besides, punching a dude who can't hit you back is a fucking bitch move. 9/21/2009 7:05:15 PM |

^^people seem to be making a deal out of it cause mark hughes is making a big deal out of it. i had no problem with it and didnt question the amount of time at all. the thought of "we got lucky since that lasted forever" never came across my mind when owen scored, and there have been times when ive seen games at OT and im like wow that was fortunate. and he has to add time for the owen goal which he does which is why the whistle doesnt come about til another 30 seconds after the restart...its why its called extra time.

lol well duh, why would you have had a problem with it?
Let's be honest though, let's say this happened at Eastlands with the exact same circumstances except it was Citeh who got the winner... you know damn well you'd at least mention the extra time added as being a bit suspicious. And same for any Liverpool fan if it happened at OT to them, or at Anfield to United, etc. Especially right after the game after you've seen the opposing coach laughing it up with the 4th official on the sideline afterwards... I would have been pissed about it in the moment too if I were Hughes. That doesn't mean I think a formal FA investigation should take place or anything, but you know that you'd be just a little bit irked.

True true, I finally saw the video. Well, I saw what Bellamy did, I'm not sure if something happened before they actually got a hold of him. Even if something did happen before, it still doesn't excuse the fact he walked over to the dude and pushed him in the face. It's a shame Bellamy is such a freak because he's a damn good soccer player when he's on.9/21/2009 10:24:57 PM |
