I assume AT&T has better coverage in the triangle than T-Mobile right?

Anyone used T-Mobile around here for any length of time? I just played with a friends Nexus one, and his phone was in Edge/EVDO/whatever the non 3G is called, with two bars, while my iphone had 5 bars of 3G


also does anyone here have the nexus one? what network do you run it on?

There's an issue with the Nexus One staying on EDGE (non-3G) or flipping between EDGE and 3G a lot.

From their maps, 3G coverage should be about the same with at&t and tmobile for raleigh. AT&T extends out further though


List of phones subject to the mandatory data packages which I think some of those already required data anyways. Now you just pay 29.99 for "unlimited" instead of 19.99 for 75MB

^ well, I meant the actual phone and the processor were amazingly fast.

With T Mobile I am pulling just shy of 1 Mbps (usually .93). I have NEVER had a dropped call and have 3G almost always in Wake County unless I am indoors.

T Mobile came in 2nd in Consumer Reports latest data. Really do not understand why people have a negative perception of T Mobile... especially when it is nearly 1/2 the costs of Verizon or AT&T (who came in last of CR data).

^ I live here but any travel that I have done I have always had coverage. T mobile has over 200 million covered with 3g *about par with at&t, albeit that is nothing to brag at* BUT, they do have speeds capable of 7.2 Mbs,soonto be 21!

Verizon- 89.99+29.99=119.98
Tmobile- 69.99+30=99.99

so you save $20/month with tmobile for unlimited everything on a smartphone. Big whoop. Tmobile wins by a ways if you have maxed out family plan (5). Family plans would be $30 savings on 2 lines and $10 for each line after.

^i was looking at that on BGR earlier and was also annoyed that they had the tmobile numbers wrong. those TM column numbers are wrong.

i mean, their prices are good, but not THAT good.

i'm currently trying to figure out what to do for a new phone. i'm on AT&T right now but not in contract and not happy with their service.

I want an Android phone and could probably use any of the big 4 companies since I live in a big city (san diego). I don't need unlimited minutes, so Sprint is looking like the best deal, but they need to announce some new phones already...

I can't believe how many people have bought into the near worthless verizon map ads. Outside of most major cities the verizon 3G network is painfully slow.

Verizon covers 284 million people with 3G, AT&T covers 233 million with 3G, & Tmobile comes in at 200.

the even more plus plans are no contract plans, they don't have discounted phones on those plans. (unless your contract was a few months from ending, they give you the option to switch) The advantage to that is you get lower rates on the plans and instead of discounting a phone the basically allow you to finance it and pay monthly installments if you want. those rates are so low because they don't have discounted phones.

those are the rates i am paying (actually $10 less because i complained so much about the nexus shitstorm)

yeah, those prices are accurate. TM is the Even More plan and CPE is Even More Plus. The prices with data are a little misleading since those aren't for smartphones and tmobile charges $30 on top of their Even More text/talk package.

The verizon plans currently on their website won't be accurate on monday. look at the damn image I posted. Verizon will be 89.99 for unlimited talk and text + 29.99 for data so 119.98. The Even More plan is 69.99 for unlimited talk and text + 30 for data = 99.99. The 79.99 unlimited everything isn't for smartphones. If do the Even More Plus, it's 79.99/month but then you're paying more upfront or paying extra for the first 19 months to pay off the phone. IE to get the Bold 9700 and not pay 449 up front, you'd end up paying $102/month for the first 19 months.

you obviously have reading comprehension problems. It's 99.99 for the Even More plan (subsidized price, 2 year contract). Try going online and getting a cliq, mytouch, or blackberry. Yes it's only 79.99 for the Even More PLUS plan (non-subsidized, no contract) but either you pay retail for the phone up front or you tack on extra money each month to have it financed with the 19 month payment plan.

I chose the regular even more plan for the cost comparison since Verizon doesn't offer an Even More Plus Equivalent. The $79 plan I mentioned was for the TM column which is the Even More plans. That number is for unlimited talk, text, data on a regular phone. Tmobile charges $30 for data (instead of $10) on smartphones put on even more plans. You are correct that anyone with sense would go with a Even More Plus though with no contract and would save a few hundred over the course of the comparable 2 yr contract.

Considering everywhere I have ever been in my travels I had coverage and Wake County is full of 3G that is FASTER than Verizons.... seems really hard to choose Verizon over T Mobile to me.

If you're in the major raleigh, charlotte, or greensboro area, I don't see anything wrong with Tmobile. For a new curve (8530 v 8520) you'd save about $30/month (with up front phone cost factored in) on Tmobile Even More Plus plan over a Verizon unlimited plan. So that's about $730 over 2 years. I go between here and Wilmington a lot and the verizon coverage outweighs the cost/no contract advantage of Tmobile.

Curve 8520- 279.99
24 months service- (79.99*24)= 1919.76
Average cost/month- 91.66

Verizon
Curve 8530- 49.99
24 months service- (119.98*24)= 2879.52

Sprint is decent and their 4G is pretty fast here in raleigh. Just got one of the 3G/4G mifi hotspots today for work and it's just as fast as our main internet here. I believe you roam on Verizon towers in a lot of places but if a certain percentage of your calls or data usage is roaming, they can terminate your contract.
