The more I think about this, the more I like it. At a time when lots of bands are drenching stuff in faux lo-fi fuzz to make it sound nastier than it really is, Crystal Castles just blasted the levels of everything. It'll be interesting to see whether people consider it a plus or a minus that the sound of the record morphs with the volume you play it at.

I was big on Swim (and still am), but I seriously have not heard one album so far that has made me want to take In Evening Air off of rotation. I guess that's just me, though.

for the new crystal castles...did I get the right version? It just reminds me (with the exception of doe deer which it works with) as T-Pain's autotune songs on drugs.

edit--- as it turns out, I didn't have a full version...and I still don't know if I have the right version. This empathy song is alright I guess. Still not stoked on what I've heard.

It's not a 2010, but these guys came out late 2009 with an ep. Big Spider's Back

http://www.myspace.com/bigspidersback Warped's a pretty good song. Reminds me of a lot of bands, so it's nothing fresh, but good sound.

I have no idea what version I got....I just ended up listening to what they have on myspace and it's not what I got on a download. Beware of a version that sounds like I described lol.

also, the Dan Deacon remix of Owen Pallett's "lewis takes off his shirt" is gooood.

thanks for the national... it's freakin amazing. will likely be my favorite album of 2010. even this "low quality" rip sounds really really good. sufjan stevens sings back-up in track 5, juston vernon (bon iver) sings back-up in track 11.

1) for some reason I did not know the were playing Charlotte in May (or I might have dismissed it because it was a Sunday...but I'm considering going now ha).
2) I see it listed at The Fillmore not Amos', am I missing something?

ugh that sucks. I miss when I could go see bands like them for like $10/$12 bucks. I remember when the Solid State tour came through Charlotte in like 2004 (just after uO's TOCS came out) people were saying "omg the tickets are $16/$18, thats so expensive." Seems like its hard to get under $20 anymore for shows I'm interested in. (Of course thats mainly due to the fees etc.)

$28 is not expensive for a show.

just remember if you listened to shitty music it would be like $70 minimum for tickets and it would always sell out

haha well yea, compared to that it looks like a steal. I wasn't really using them in my comparison, since I don't go to those kind of shows, but point taken.

i mean the most expensive metal show i've ever been to was $40 albeit i've never been to like festivals or any huge bands like slayer or some shit. I think i payed 35 to see megadeth.

Idk people have money for what they want to have money for, i'll agree its different when you have to drive kinda far for shows on top of paying a lot, maybe i just don't have anything better to do with my money.

i don't care who you are, $28 is expensive

hell, i'm iffy about seeing sharon jones for $25, and she sure as hell puts on a better show than minus the bear

but i saw spider bags and titus andronicus kick ass for 2+ hours on sunday and it was $8...i still run on that pricing model

Once pricing gets above $20 or so I'm a little "eehhhhhh...." about seeing the show.

There's a few exceptions, like when it's multiple bands that I enjoy. But I have to know the venue as well for those higher priced shows, too.

Like, I would never pay more than $10 to see a show at say, the Brewery or the Pour House. But I would totally pay $25 to see a show at Cat's or Local 506.

i mean if i'm seeing some shitty ass metal bands at volume 11 then i'm not paying more than like $15

but that BTBAM, Mastodon, Valient Thor show was from like around 8-12, and Shrinebuilder was rumoured to be playing there as well. The rest of the tour will have Baroness.

Average show i go to is like 3 hours. thats giving like 10 minutes set down & 15 for set up. I don't think thats a long time.

^yeah exactly. I sure as fuck don't pay $40 to see bands i kind of like. For example theres a show this weekend $25 4 bands i only really like 1 of them which i've seen before so i'm not going. Basically i'll pay $10 for bands i like and $15 per band i love and there aint many of them

^^don't be put off by the first track. It is meant to sound lo-fi. Something about them not being happy with any of the re-records, so they stuck the demo on the final album. The quality on the rest is fine.

AFAIK the highest quality out there right now is a 216k VBR, which probably isn't much of an improvement.
