Degand had some nice plays this game too.

A couple clutch basket drives that took the air out of the crowd and the fla state rally.

and he nailed a couple sets of freethrows

The 'Noles top 25 presence was about as spectacular as ours was after we were crowned Champions of Old Spicery.

No one is going to do that for a game of this minor significance

haha they did for the last win of the football season.

Both essentially meaningless wins over barely ranked opponents

Ha ha my prediction from page 1. Thank God I was completely wrong. Mays was actually clutch with the FTs as was Degand and the rest of the team.

Great effort last night by the team. Honestly without the collapse against UVA and the UF miracle, this team is 14-3 and has been in every game for the most part (maybe not so much the WF game). Northwestern game was kind of a fluke because we could hit shit from the field even when we were open.

^^ Add the miracle win for Arizona and Smith being suspended for that game. We are a couple of bad bounces away from being a decent team.

All things considered, we're in better shape now than we've been in awhile. No huge blowouts, and the UF loss was a fluke. Are we great? Hell no. We're mediocre to average with a big upside for the next year with Javi, Smith, Wood coming back, Vandy and Davis have been nice surprises, and Howell has tons of raw potential. Add next year's recruiting class and things are looking good.

For this year, who the hell knows. There's going to be a fair amount of close games, we'll steal a couple we shouldn't, and probably get clubbed like a baby seal a few times. Call it 6-10 in ACC.

That was more of a miracle for us than Arizona. I mean we erased an 8 pt Zona lead in the last minute or so. Yeah that layup was lucky as fuck for Zona, but we got lucky as fuck with all of Javi's shots to even be in that position. Either way I still like watching this team 100x more than last year's team. Just having a legit outside shooter in Wood makes each offensive play more exciting to watch.

Man if everything would have went right for us (i.e. hitting FTs against UVA and UF, and Smith not getting suspended for the UA game) we could have been looking at a 15-2 (2-1) record right now with losses only to Northwestern and Wake Forest.

JESUS PEOPLE. Let's wait a game or two and see which NCSU is the real one before claiming that we should have one or two losses.

well, he has a point

florida and arizona could have easily gone the other way. and, well, blowing a lead against UVA....

but, that's part of the game. our teams have been in a lot of games where it could have easily gone the other way....at some point we're going to have to take advantage of those opportunities.

with how inconsistent we are night to night scoring, its gonna be a bipolar rest of the year. we may fuck up and lose to some shitty teams, like UVA, but we also could go lights out and steal some games like we just did last night.

if Wood keeps it up and can average 12-15 for us for the rest of the way that would be huge, but i don't know if he can just yet. hopefully last night makes up for the lack of confidence he had due to his terrible drought to begin the season.

i'm also excited to see what Howell does as he continues to get back into game shape and gets acclimated to ACC play. I definitely agree with folks that Horner, while he can shoot, needs to lose some minutes to an actual post player.

Who is wetting their pants? You're not making up stuff are you?

Should we not be excited about our team winning on the road against the (currently) #25 team in the nation?

I'm not wetting my pants or anything, but I think it was an impressive win in a number of ways: Florida State was 25th in both the AP and USA Today polls, we scored 88 points against I believe the #1 scoring defense in the ACC even though our big 3 all had off nights, and we finally started hitting FTs at a good percentage. It gives me some hope of actually having a halfway decent season, but we better bring our A game against Clemson or we will get slaughtered.

the entire key to the game this coming saturday is how well we can deal with full court pressure, the ENTIRE game.

if we start doing dumb things and freaking out and throwing the ball away, it will be over early. but i suspect the next few days at practice will be dedicated to breaking the press on offense, and double team defense on Trevor Booker.

its really up to Javi, Julius, and Farnold to keep us in the game on Saturday.

yes we won. sure.

we still suck balls. it took a titanic night that might never get repeated again from an overhyped freshman for us to barely win by 7 points. somebody else go 10/10 at the finish on freethrows. we suck.

watch us lose the next 5 games. uggh.

I'm not saying don't be excited. But we played poorly in all of our losses and It's hard to tell if this was a fluke or not.

WAT??? the fuck are you talking about overhyped? Wood was big time pick up for us and was a few points away from Indiana State Player of the Year

One of the main reasons he wasnt the ISPY is b/c he went to school out of state. there was a big article about this his senior year talking about how much he deserved it but wouldnt get the award for coming to NCSU

how do you go 7/11 from the arc for 31 points and get labelled "overhyped"

wasn't his performance last night the fucking textbook definition of "living up to the hype"?

True, Mays dealt with it surprisingly well last night considering how much he struggled with it against UVA...Farnold has been able to break the press pretty consistently but he hasn't been hitting FTs at a high clip which makes him a bit of a liability bringing the ball up the floor.

I submitted a question to Dana O'Neil's chat (ESPN college bball writer). And here's what she said.

Patrick (Philadelphia)

NC State has had some bad luck recently with the Florida miracle and missed opportunities against Arizona and Virginia. Do you think their win @ #25 FSU could be the springboard to give this young team the confidence to close out games and perhaps sneak into the NCAA Tournament? I think they need to go 9-7 in the ACC to have a shot.

Dana O'Neil
(3:48 PM)

Patrick: Maybe. Heaven knows they needed the in pretty desperately. Not exactly an easy run coming up - Duke, Clemson, Maryland, UNC in some order or another.

I guess she meant to type needed "it"

The two reasons Wood wasn't Indiana Mr. Basketball:
-He played out of position his senior year (he had a great season numbers wise while doing so, however)
-He didn't commit to Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, or any other mid-west school.

Those guys (Sean May and Tyler Zeller) were far and away the best/most hyped players in the state during their senior year (and yes I realize that Julius Mays was one of the contenders when Zeller won it; again 3* versus a 5*). Scott Wood's class didn't have some super hyped up 5* player in it.

Look at last year's Mr. Basketball, Jordan Hulls. He's not anything too special, but he is from Bloomington and just so happens to be going to IU, yet I wouldn't trade Wood for him.
