14% of games missed
http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/07/28/600896/ncaa-rulings-vary.html
Quote : | " According to NCAA documents, for expenses less than $500, the suspension is zero games; between $501 and $700 is 10 percent of the regular season; $701 to $1,000 is 20 percent; and $1,001 “and up” is 30 percent.
The NCAA does not quantify a “point of no return” or an upper limit on the monetary value of expenses before a student-athlete would be unable to repay the amount and retain his eligibility.
Signing with an agent, or “an agreement indicating that an individual will represent him or her,” results in a loss of eligibility, according to the NCAA document.
The NCAA classifies the college football season as 12 games and the college basketball season as 29 games, Brett said. The NCAA rounds the suspension up, Brett said, so in the case of football, 10 percent would be two games, 20 percent would be three games and 30 percent would be four games." |
so we went from "next time we see him will be a NFL camp"
to "4 games max suspension"
and now we are back to "slap on the wrist."7/28/2010 10:28:30 AM |

UNC should still penalized as a institution for lack of control. If they do not, then fuck it, we need to start blatantly cheating too. 7/28/2010 10:49:05 AM |

so wait, didn't Cris Carter lose his last year of eligibility for taking money from an agent? (heard about this on Mike and Mike last week but don't know much more about it)
I'm just saying, how can you be suspended 2 games for $500, and 6 games for $1001, but other players (Dez Bryant) lose their senior season? 7/28/2010 12:00:13 PM |

Assuming the stuff about Austin being the agent's ringleader pawn in getting all the recruits to the party is true, I could see him getting a harsher punishment than just the monetary slap on the wrist. But these rules recently mentioned are just weak and don't really punish anything, so I expect to see no real consequences against the UNC team. 7/28/2010 12:07:34 PM |

I think those numbers are for 1 time payments, and could be for anything. I am guessing they are harsher for agent involvement than playing in a golf tournament.
For example: you play at Pinehurst #2 in a celebrity fundraiser, take a free lunch and steak dinner, ipod touch, dozen titliests, etc. and you are easily over $1000. That sounds like a 4 game suspension.
Taking cash, gifts, bottle service, recruiting others, 50k worth of training, cars, apartments, etc. sounds like a year off to me. 7/28/2010 2:49:57 PM |

Fuck
http://blogs.newsobserver.com/accnow/austin-little-will-practice-with-tar-heels
Quote : | "Marvin Austin and Greg Little will practice with the rest of the North Carolina football team on Friday when the Tar Heels' training camp opens, a team spokesman said.
Shane Lyons, the ACC's associate commissioner for compliance, said there is no NCAA rule against players under NCAA investigation participating in practice.
If the NCAA rules a player ineligible, Lyons said, they would still be able to practice.
"They would be ineligible for competition, not for practice," Lyons said.
The NCAA interviewed an undisclosed number of UNC football players on July 12 and July 13. Little, a senior receiver, was one of them, his father said. The News & Observer has confirmed that Austin, a senior defensive tackle, was also interviewed.
The Tar Heels, who open practice on Friday, are waiting to hear from the NCAA about its investigation into the football program for the possibility of players receiving improper benefits from agents.
Kevin Best, the team's spokesman, said Austin and Little will be at practice on Friday.
South Carolina tight end Weslye Saunders, who was also interviewed by the NCAA, practiced with the Gamecocks on Tuesday.
UNC opens the season on Sept. 4 against Louisiana State in Atlanta. If it doesn't get a ruling from the NCAA, Lyons said, then the school would have to make a decision.
"The institution has to ask itself if they have violated any rules,"Lyons said, without specifically commenting on the UNC probe. "Then they would to make a determination if they are going to withhold the players in question."
Lyons said players ruled ineligible by the NCAA are still eligible to remain on scholarship and practice with the team, under NCAA rules.
It would be up to UNC, not the ACC or NCAA, to revoke an ineligible player's scholarship, Lyons said." |
