Everyone needs to start showing off their constructions. I'll start with a general overview:



This is my single player map. There's nothing to impressive, but I've not attempted anything too big after being burned by the build ceiling building my tower.

Also, does anyone have any good guides on building circular/elliptic domes? Circles I can do fine, I'm just having trouble sketching out the 3D stacking to make a half sphere/ellipse.

You should go check out mine, I think its pretty neat.

There is a tunnel that I made at the end of the football field that leads to mine. Just follow the minecart track in the tunnel and youll get there eventually.

It's the "Wolfmarsh Recreation Center".

Complete with athletic facility and gentlemen's club.

Rec Center is pretty sweet, only complaint is that I completely missed the tunnel at the end of the football field to get there like 3 times, had no idea where to go.

Yes! I'm building a 50 block diameter death star right now. Here's how:

1. Open GIMP. Turn your grid on with 1x1 spacing. In all below steps you can used the "Fixed Size" and "Center line" guides options on the Ellipse tool.
2. Make your circle. The diameter in pixels should be your total diameter in blocks. This is your side profile.
3. Starting with the bottom row of pixels, count the width of each row.
4. Make a layer for each row (as you go) right above the first layer. Draw a circle that has the same diameter as the width in step #3. Fill it in with a new color.
5. The newest layer is a guide of what you need to build out from the last.

It was a lot of fun. It reminded me of that Mario 64 level in the black oily pool.

Build us another one, and with a different theme! Maybe use half-stone and glass to make it slick and futuristic looking.

Found my second monster spawner last night. Got all pissed because they were both spider boxes. Was hoping to a different monster so I could farm different drops. Bah. Oh well, back to digging.

Aight. The deal with the map switch is this; for anyone who cares.

After the update I'm putting a new map on the server. We are currently working on the starting area/town. The starting area will have different lots set up for projects. We are going to try to have a nice looking spawn with some NCSU centric stuff (Netstorm will help with this I hope).

Only community projects will be allowed in the starting town. Hopefully aesthetically pleasing to newcomers. There will be a public mine in the town, but no private mines will be allowed under the town.

Outside of the starting town is open territory, people can build whatever they want, and we will help build roads/minecarts to connect the areas. The idea is to keep the spawn area from being overrun, but still allowing freedom to do whatever. We hope people spread out enough to not run into each others' mines/buildings/etc.

There will be NO spawning of items except for community projects, and then only when actually necessary (stuff you can't mine). People that help with public projects will be rewarded with unobtainable/hard to obtain items within reason.


There will also be some rules regarding construction with the new map. Nothing really restrictive, just limiting certain items that are a PITA to get rid of, making sure any 1 block towers/scaffolding are removed when finished, etc.


Hopefully this setup will give everyone the best of both worlds: creativity, and organization.



Let me know how this sounds to everyone. I want to do something that everyone is happy with, while keeping it from becoming a clusterfuck.

Server rules sound great. If we could get a google map or equivalent thing going that'd be pretty awesome, so we could kind of map out where everyone is, zones for exploration, etc

seal it off, dig out underneath it and put some cacti, surrounded by a stream of water that will filter arrows down to your feet!

God damn if this game doesn't piss me off sometimes. I managed to get myself a nice suit of armor and went adventuring, and died deep in the caverns of a new, super extensive cave system I found near the aforementioned skeleton spawn. I gear up and eventually make my way down there after dying a few times and can't find my old crap.

At the entrance of this system I establish my new camp, complete with a high growing wheat platform. Next to the platform there's a dropoff and I spy my first treasure chest, with a nearby spider spawn. I die a few times but manage to fend off the spiders long enough to loot the chest. Rather than play smart and stash the loot, especially considering my 1.5 hearts, I take my time to try and seal off the spider spawn (which is in a small cave) and in the process end up dying. I eventually get back and all of my crap is gone.

I just now reestablished myself, and had a few good things going. I found a bottomless pit and decided to make a waterfall to coast to the end of it and see what I found. It worked perfectly, except for finding a creep on the way down that detonated and left me with 2 hearts. I land somewhere at lava level, and my waterfall had created obsidian. I find a ton of iron ores, red stone, and some gold, but couldn't loot anything but the iron as I only have stone picks. I start to venture out of my landing area when I make a miss-jump and land in lava, losing everything I had including a lot of raw iron and a bucket of lava...which I was going to use to farm those spiders. Fuck it all

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that if you put torches on the sides of a mob spawner it will stop it from spawning until you remove them. That way you can set up a trap or whatever without having to fight the spiders the whole time.

^^When you die, your old equipment disappears after 5 real-life minutes.

Also, I'm pretty sure it disappears if you die a second time before picking it up, but I'm not positive.

I've heard that about the torches as well.

I also managed to die again after mining a ton of diamonds and iron down in my caverns, so I rage quit after I went back in and couldn't find my loot. Turns out that if you exit Minecraft without pushing "Esc" at all then it will save your character's loot and location, but the rest of the world will remain unchanged, including ore deposits and your storage box.

I'm not really sure how it works, but the problem may be that an OP needs to be online the same time as you to give you build privileges? You may want to PM one of the OPs to figure out what the deal is (Wylock, Netstorm, saturnine, not sure who else)

Maybe I'm just a fucking idiot, but I tried to add people to the whitelist and it kept saying the command was unknown. Same command that Saturn gave me. Hmmmm.

Tried with several different people.

Not sure, going to have to ask him.

I was on for a while last night (I logged out during the maze and now I have to renew it, it's fucking awesome) and no one ever came around (I was trying to whitelist all the while). I saw the lava on your stuff Neo, assumed you put it there. I don't know about any kind of water block abuse though.

No didn't put the lava there. Someone else did. We figured out how to get rid of it. Seems to be some other waterblock abuse too.
