i dont really get the criticism of the bobcats draft. there really werent any obvious starters this year after the first 3 picks, but biyombo could definitely start for this team. kemba if nothing else has the capability of being an instant offense 6th man like ben gordon, which the bobcats absolutely can use. the only thing i dont like is they need an offensive big man, but biyombo is so good at what he does it seems, i can definitely live with it. and with cho, they may not be done just yet. 6/24/2011 9:58:10 AM |

bold prediction: 5 years from now we will look back at this draft and say "bismack biyombo? who the fuck is that and where is he playing now?" 6/24/2011 11:03:23 AM |

Highly highly likely, but you've got to like his potential on the defensive end. He starred at the Nike Hoop Summit, which features the best prep-players in the country (Austin Rivers, Anthony Davis, James McAdoo, etc). He actually recorded the first triple-double in the history of the event. Semi-long video, but worth watching:

The criticism stems from trading an elite player (Wallace)for almost nothing and then blowing yet another draft pick on a guy we don't need. Biyombo might be good but he's a project so who knows. Kemba on the other hand is a known quantity. Why take him when there are good players like Leonard and faried available 6/24/2011 12:15:28 PM |

by bringing in Kemba, they pretty much eliminate any chance at bringing in Chris Paul via FA... CP3 being the ONLY top-tier FA that would even consider going to Charlotte. They're too heavy at Guard now.
So you cut loose Jax and earlier Henderson, and now you've got Maggette, a project in Bilbo Babimbo, and a Kemba Walker that may never be much better than a top-tier 6th man.
I'm sorry, Bobcats fans can look at this in the positive "rebuilding" light, but to me it just seems like they gutted their franchise.

think you meant livingston? big difference. biyombo isnt a project unless you're hoping he develops an offensive game. a player can be a force without ever having much of an offensive game. ibaka and ben wallace come to mind.
wallace had a rapidly shrinking period of productivity and it was obvious the team needed to make some changes. if he's your best trade piece, then so be it. if you look at it as biyombo or wallace, of course i'd take wallace. he was my favorite player and i wasnt glad to see him go. but they're trying to make a better team...i trust cho way more than i trust anyone else thats been involved with this organization. it'll take a few years, but i think this was a good first step.
^^^lol yea the current roster doesnt look much better than the first year.

I would have favored keeping Wallace and Jackson around, as well as an open spot at Point, to entice CP3 when he enters the FA waters.
A CP3-Wallace-Jackson lineup would be infinitely better than what it is now, and would attract other FA's as well.

well i see your point, but they'd built a team that was challenging for an 8th seed...is that really the goal? the best pieces were getting older. i honestly think the current team with maybe one or two more moves can still be fighting for 8th.
and i really doubt cp3 was ever going to consider coming here anyway. cant bank the future on a long shot. if he wants to come, they'll make it possible. 6/24/2011 1:05:50 PM |

i know Biyombo wasn't drafted to score baskets, but considering how quick he is and his limited time playing basketball i wonder if he can develop an offensive game over time

Ok, the draft was not spectacular by any means, but that is because of the quality of the draft, but I like what the organization did. I am a fan of Kemba and think he could be a quality player (even if it is in the 6th man role).
There were no real "instant stars" in this draft and Kemba is a solid pick who has proven his capabilities in college.
Although I am not excited over the loss of Wallace and now Jackson, I like the moves we made.
And the "prospect" of having CP is just that...trying to entice him and not making a move in case we miss could be drastic. I still don't rule out the chance of CP.

get rid of "bobcats" altogether
ill bring back the old hopes of the NBA sending the New Orleans franchise to Seattle and giving them "(Super)Sonics" and giving Charlotte back "Hornets" 6/26/2011 7:52:51 PM |
DalesDeadBug In Pressed Silk 2978 Posts user info edit post |
if they could work out getting "Hornets" back, i would be ecstatic
but who the shit decided on the final team names for the original poll?
1. Charlotte Flight 2. Charlotte Dragons 3. Charlotte Bobcats
Charlotte Bobcats seems like the most tolerable, though WNBAish
also, here are Jordan's comments (over a year old, but still relevant i think) on the topic of rebranding:
Quote : | "“The thing is that I’m open for anything. It’s a commitment. We have to go through the league. It’s a process. It’s a financial commitment. Am I willing to look at that and say can we go down that road? Yeah. If I get the understanding from the community, from the public, that we need it and it signifies change, yeah, I would do that. But once again, it’s a process. It’s a $3-million to $10-million investment to do that. I’m not afraid of that, as long as at the backside of that, the public is going to be happy about that, that it’s going to be great for the organization. I think it [could be] a new beginning. Yeah, I would do that. I would consider that.”" |

Looking thru the "Thunder Model", our best case scenario is to start being relevant again in two years, and to start contending again in 3-4.
2011-2012 season: We suck absolute horse cock. Top 5 pick to be used on Barnes/Jones/Gilchrist/Miller. Fan base has delusions of Howard or Paul, but them taking a shit at Charlotte Douglas is the closest we'll get to either of them
2012-2013 season: We suck a little less. The Walker/Biyombo/Henderson/2012 draft pick nucleus starts to gain chemistry and makes a late season rally, but we still finish poorly enough for another top 8 pick. Offensive minded big man or athletic 2 guard would be a nice pick here.
2013-2014 season: If we play our cards right, maybe at this point we finally start to see the fruits of Cho's labor.
Remember, losing equals winning for the next two seasons. We need two more top 10 picks to restock the roster. Hopefully top 5. 6/27/2011 3:18:58 PM |
