I'll laugh when next year Luck gets drafted by Detroit or Buffalo. There are a hell of a lot places worse to live and play than Carolina. 1/24/2011 11:30:05 PM |

for that reason, i'm inclined to believe luck just doesn't feel ready for the pressure of the nfl. everyone says he's a smart guy, so surely he can figure out the panthers aren't a bad choice for a #1 pick. i realize 50M guaranteed is a lot to turn down, and it may come back to haunt him, but i guess there's something to be said for continuing to grow mentally. 1/24/2011 11:34:34 PM |

that's how I feel
it's not that he thinks Charlotte sucks and the Panthers are a horribly run franchise (both aren't anywhere close to being true), I think he legitimately loves college and wants to get as much out of the experience as possible 1/24/2011 11:37:21 PM |

I don't see the Panthers needing a LB enough to take him in the 3rd or 4th, way to many other positions of need. Plus, when healthy, they already have 3 solid starters in Beason, Davis, and Anderson. We definitely shouldn't use a 3rd rounder on a LB, based on needs, but that has never really mattered in the past with our management, so we'll probably take a RB in the 3rd. 1/25/2011 7:59:45 AM |

It's not nearly as black and white as your post made it out to be. Much of it depends on what we would have to give up to get him here.
Personally, I'm opposed to trading any pick higher than 5th rounder for any reason in this draft. If the price is a 1st and 2nd as rumored then that's way out of our range. Besides, it's far from a sure thing that he can be an elite quarterback in this league as it stands currently.
My personal stop-gap quarterback to get us through this season would be Billy Volek. He can most likely be had for a very cheap price and the offensive familiarity between himself and Chud would make the transition here that much easier. Hell, for Smitty, we might even be able to pick up a late round pick AND get Volek.

^^^yeah I mean I'm not sure he'll develop in to a good qb but I think he'll def be better than clausen and he has a decent shot at being a delhomme level guy when jake was actually good or prob a smaller shot he could develop in to a great quarterback, to me that's worth a 2nd or 3rd round pick, i mean we're pretty much screwed as a franchise now until we get a qb and I don't think we really have many other holes at all, my main point was richardson better at least show a little interest in him or it's clear he's just a bitter, old, cheap failure at this point

^^^ He'll never go that cheap so this really a moot point, but keeping those picks you mentioned above is paramount to our future success. We need to rebuild, not continually bankrupt our future on unproven players.
About Clausen, we'll end up with a veteran extremely cheap or free agency, and then draft a quarterback as well. I would be shocked if he was the starter the first week of the season (whenever that might be).

any names specifically on the free agents? as for the draft the qbs at the top are shit I can't imagine the ones in the later round although maybe there are a few steals, ah hell I wouldn't mind giving pike a chance now, maybe that's what will happen1/31/2011 12:14:14 AM |

Orton would be my #1 FA target with Hasselbeck right behind him if Pete Carroll decides to make a play on Palmer instead of resign him.
There should be some unexpected names popping up depending on what happens with the salary cap and the CBA as well. 1/31/2011 10:43:43 AM |

I didn't realize this. I thought he was on his way out after they made the move to Tebow. I also didn't realize Volek was up. I like him even more now.
Here's a list of FA quarterbacks:
Seneca Wallace (CLE) Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) Matt Moore (CAR) Alex Smith (SF) Matt Leinart (HOU) Marc Bulger (BAL) Todd Collins (CHI) Caleb Hanie (CHI) Brady Quinn (DEN) Drew Stanton (DET) Trent Edwards (JAC) Luke McCown (JAC) Brodie Croyle (KC) Chad Pennington (MIA) Tyler Thigpen (MIA) Tarvaris Jackson (MIN) Jim Sorgi (NYG) Kellen Clemens (NYJ) Kyle Boller (OAK) Bruce Gradkowski (OAK) Dennis Dixon (PIT) Billy Volek (SD) Troy Smith (SF) Kerry Collins (TEN) Rex Grossman (WAS) 1/31/2011 10:57:47 AM |
