yes

deerhunter -> "doe deer" -> crystal castles -> crystal stilts -> crystal antlers -> antlers -> the dear hunter

deer tick

those guys shot up in the schoolkids bathroom once, no joke

also, "i don't want love" by the antlers has almost the same chords as deerhunter's "helicopter." it all comes full circle.

the new antlers didnt really grab me at first listen

granted it was on the background while i was doing work, but i was really looking forward to it.

will give it a more fair shake later.

for you godspeed people, that Efrim Manuel Menuck "Plays 'High Gospel'" is worth a listen.

he's really quite a spectacular musician.

definitely gonna be the #1 album on billboard when it comes out. and I doubt he'll have to do it the bullshit way like Arcade Fire did with their $3.99 sale.

to be fair, merge does that with most of their releases at some point

i mean, neon bible was #2 at a time when online sales were not nearly as prevalent, and certainly not at loss leader-style discounts

Tons of people do that these days. We did that as well not long after the record came out.

plus, i thought the $3.99 sale was just for the download, as opposed to the physical cd? does that count towards album sales? i'm really asking

So will the Bon Iver show at the Raleigh amphitheater sell out anytime soon? I want to go but have to see if I can make it to town that day or not

^Hard to tell. I think it will sell out, but probably closer to the show. Although they're approximately 23409840202322x better at music than Mumford & Sons, I guess they aren't as big.

That said, if they can sell out any city, it'd probably be Raleigh.

i just can't justify paying $50 for Bon Iver and The Rosebuds.

i love the Rosebuds, and Bon Iver is always hit or miss for me... but, i've also never seen him live. meh.... struggling with this one.

^if you go to the actual progress energy center box office downtown, you can buy tickets without paying the ticketmaster fees (there's still a small service charge iirc, but much less than ticketmaster's).

probably only cost you $30 or so a ticket if you do that and get the cheaper ticket option.

It's $50 for reserved seats-- only $30 for lawn. Still a bit expensive for Bon Iver and Rosebuds imo

This article is part of why Patrick Stickles is such a badass:

http://www.spinner.com/2011/04/05/titus-andronicus-furious-after-tour-with-pogues/

I imagine it takes a lot to come to grips with the fact that one of your favorite bands is treating you like shit.

there was a great interview with stickles on sound opinions last week

first question: "why did you start this band when you did?"

stickles: "what else was i gonna do?"

Listened twice...Holocene, Towers, Calgary, and Beth/Rest are my favorites. Never thought a voice like his and auto-tune would mix at all whatsoever...but babies are shooting out of my computer randomly during Beth/Rest. Fucking absolutely amazing album.

I was also inundated to his cover of The Outfield's Your Love today after Stereogum did a "10 best covers by Bon Iver" post. And it's really really good.

Damn, and that was before I got to "Beth/Rest." Might be the best song on the album. 80s synth slow-jam goodness.

A LOT of people are going to hate "Beth/Rest" because of how seemingly cheesy and unapologetically 80s it is. I love it.

But I think people are gonna love the album in general.

New Woods album, Sun and Shade, is fucking great. Definitely a notch above their previous work. It sounds like the Byrds got together to jam with Neu! Track number 2, 'Any other day', is pure bliss.

And, yes, the new Bon Iver album is good too.
