yeah, we pretty much sucked last year, but i inferred from your post that richmond was a bad team and we had no business losing to them. which wasn't the case.10/29/2011 10:13:27 AM |

now that we suck so bad in football, it's all on the shoulders of the basketball team this year. maybe a few upset wins, lots of tight games against good teams, middle of the pack in the acc, a bubble/NIT team, and all and all a good product on the court to watch.
Just got my season tickets. so at least keep me interested until the second half of the ACC season, unlike FB.

From PI!!!!
Quote : | "We caught up with NC State sharpshooter, Scott Wood, to talk about the upcoming season, this offseason and his thoughts about the change in coaches and culture in Raleigh.
-What’s the difference from this year to last year? “I think we’re just coming together, that’s the main thing. Las year was a lot of individual stuff and people kind of wanted to do it themselves. They put the pressure on themselves to make the big shot or make the big play and I think this year it’s a little different, we’re playing as a team and that is definitely going to help.”
-Do you feel like you’re a better team this year? “Every offseason people are going to improve and get better. It’s just a matter of you improving on your weaknesses and improving on your strengths and incorporating that into the offense and defense.”
-It feels like there’s a different feel around this place this season…do you feel that way? “Last year people wanted to do it themselves and they wanted to make the big shot. Its not a bad thing but you have other teammates, you have help, and we needed to use that a little more.”
-DeShawn Painter told us you’ve expanded your game this season, is that true? “I dont know if I’ve expanded my game, it’s just that I’m comfortable. The older you get, you know as a freshman you’re a puppy, you’re a sophomore and your going a little bit, but you’re not fully comfortable out there. So I think it’s just getting experience, getting older and getting comfortable and showing things that you have in your game that you haven’t really shown yet.”
-How are the players feeling about the new offense? “Last year was a lot more set stuff, so sets you kind of know wich two people were the main looks and it’d be 1, 2 and 3. This year there are a lot more reads and anyone could get a touch at anytime.”
-How do you feel you fit with the new offense and new coaching staff? “I’m comfortable. What Coach is trying to do is play to everyone’s strengths. He knows I”m a shooter so he’s going to try to get me some double screens, he knows Zo is good off of screens so he’ll get ball screens, he knows Richard and CJ are good at the high post so he’s going to get them there and isolate them.”
-Are you going to be playing the 2 or the 3? “Defensively I dont know who they want me to guard, but in this offense the 2 and the 3 are virtually the same position. I’m going to be doing the same thing no matter where I am on offense. The main thing is where they want me on defense.”
-Do you think last year you were under-utilized as a player? “I don’t know if I was under-utilized as I was just trying to not mess-up. Everyone has another dimension to their game, it’s just a matter of how comfortable they are. Everyone is just trying to do the right thing and not mess up. I think everyone is going to bring out those extra dimensions this year because the offense is a little more laid back.”
-Who has surprised you so far? “A lot of people have surprised me. You’ve all seen Richard’s transformation. Alex Johnson coming in here and taking on a leadership role. CJ Williams has been finishing almost every play. Zo, CJ, they’ve all improved and have gotten better so we can improve as a team.”

This, in a nutshell, is why Lowe's offense never worked in college. Players were too worried about messing up to just play comfortably and naturally.11/1/2011 7:28:09 PM |

Wow, not to get too far ahead of ourselves but I just noticed how easy our first 9 conference games are and then how difficult our last 7 are. We definitely can't afford to start out slow in conference play. Kenpom ( i know its too early to be very accurate) has us starting 7-2 and then losing our last 7 games to finish 7-9. That would really suck haha
But when you look at the ACC schedule it is backloaded to death, which is probably good for us. If we got to 7-2 we'd have enough confidence to finish a few of those last few with wins you'd think. 11/8/2011 3:53:00 PM |

I'm really excited for the OOC schedule being more challenging this season. I also don't know what Kenpom's numbers are based on right now (last year's stats maybe?), but I can't imagine Miami or VT being that much better than us, and I bet we can steal at least one against Clemson, FSU, or Duke. 11/8/2011 5:03:14 PM |

Quote : | "WOLFPACK IN ACC JUMBLE BY CAULTON TUDOR - Staff Writer
A reasonable goal for N.C. State this men's basketball season should be a 9-7 ACC record.
Preseason polls obviously don't support that assertion.
In the official ACC media vote Oct. 19 in Charlotte, the Wolfpack was picked to finish No. 8, ahead of only Maryland, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and Boston College.
In some outlooks, Mark Gottfried's first team is picked as low as 10th.
But all of that preseason logic is based on the misguided assumptions that the ACC is still a strong league top to bottom and that the Wolfpack's 16-32 conference record over the past three seasons is an accurate reflection of the program's ceiling in view of its neighborhood.
In reality, the ACC is not a strong basketball league and hasn't been for about a decade. It's a two-piston engine - Duke and North Carolina - surrounded by an assortment of interchangeable minor parts.
Recently, no school among the league's 12 has contributed more to ACC mediocrity than N.C. State. For reasons ranging from injuries to poor preparation to poor execution, the Wolfpack lost touch with its heritage but more importantly, its confidence.
My guess is that Gottfried will change that dynamic, particularly on the second point. The guy is not the next Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams or Dean Smith. But there's enough of Jim Valvano's spunky personality in Gottfried to think there will be a quick change in attitude, conditioning and commitment. Improvement in those areas alone will compute to three or four conference wins.
The ACC of 2011-12 is not your parents' ACC and definitely not the league your grandparents followed.
Three through 12, the league becomes a bunch of guys playing tag.
With Gary Williams no longer at Maryland, the No. 3 spot in the pecking order is vacant.
It might not happen this season, but the Wolfpack eventually will occupy that No. 3 spot and then challenge the top two. The first step on that path will begin this season." |

^^ he's absolutely right. it's the same deal in football; a top 5 acc finish (or in football, a fucking conference championship) is just sitting there begging to be taken, and we're never the ones that take it. 11/9/2011 7:29:59 PM |

Quote : | "Q: How difficult was your decision to leave N.C. State?
A: I think it was the best decision for me. I loved N.C. State, and it was a great experience for me, but being there was making me not like the game as much as I always loved it, and I didn’t feel like I was being pushed like I should’ve been. They did teach me a lot of things, and I still have a relationship with the coaches, who are no longer there. But coming here was a great decision.
Q: What were some of your highlights at N.C. State?
A: I hit a game-winner against Miami (Fla.) as a freshman, which was one of my highlights. Also my freshman year in the conference tournament game against Maryland, I led us in scoring. Those were probably my two biggest moments." |

FYI: from what Ive been told, the general admission seating for students does not work the same as it has at the Carter. Apparently the ticket scanner will had you another ticket for a particular section. This ticket could be for any of the four sections (West sideline, North, South, Upperlevel), regardless of what time you arrive. So you could enter the building right at 6PM, and get an upper level seat. Hopefully they will get their head out of their ass before tomorrow night and figure out how to do this properly, but if not, feel free to go apeshit on someone for getting an upperlevel ticket after arriving an hour early. 11/10/2011 7:17:29 PM |

howell looks great. He's always had the skills just lacked the conditioning to stay on the court and not commit silly fouls because he's tired and slow.
Saying he's not an elite rebounder or that it's not legit to look at a guy's stats per minute and then base future projections off of those stats is just ridiculous though.
I think we should all agree to hold posters to a higher standard of intellectualism this season. It's not 1965, we don't need to talk sports like we're uninformed monkeys. 11/13/2011 8:01:10 PM |
