400 burpees in under an hour?
I'm guessing you were not doing a full burpee, the kind with a push up. 1/31/2012 7:31:03 PM |

Matt I started with full burpees and then moved onto half burpees (no push up). Also it wasn't 400 traditional burpees. I'll have to find the work out but it's one that I have mentioned before in the last beach body thread around September/October time frame.
Goal is to eventually get to doing full burpees. Eventually being key 1/31/2012 8:15:41 PM |

I should clarify - I can do full burpees. I don't ever have a problem doing one but I modified for the 400 rep challenge because I know my arms are my weakest point.
And Swinks - I should look into the 1/4 mile burpee. That could be fun. 1/31/2012 9:44:30 PM |

^^ Looks like another weird dude trying to be the best at exercising.
Exercising is a means to an end. Health and a good looking body.
I'll never understand why people torture themselves with cardio, extreme fitness challenges, and powerlifting.
Wouldn't you rather just look good than waste the hours you have on earth on a treadmill?
Do you think anyone cares that you completed some arbitrary length of exercise and now have fucked up toenails.
Do girls ever have sex with you because you tell them you can lift more weights than the average bear?
In my day it was about how your body looked and how much game you had. I really doubt any guy gets laid by conversing about burpees. 2/1/2012 1:33:51 AM |

I hate to get involved in a long discourse on this, but to think that people are physically active simply for the aesthetic improvements is foolhardy.
On that same note, I think that the point of exerting and challenging oneself in diverse ways is for the intrinsic value (i.e. Who cares if no one cares?). Posting a YouTube video or talking about it on Facebook may have some subversive intent of braggadocio, but it more likely serves as a record of achievement, a reference for friends and family, and an inspiring force for those who also endeavor to challenge themselves in rigors outside the realm of traditional rote exercises.
Being physically capable and motivated runs much deeper than the benefit of improved physique - though, I doubt anyone would argue it's a nice perk.
Then again Mr. face, it's possible that you're entirely happy driving the frame of a Ferrari with a go-kart engine under the hood.]2/1/2012 8:02:21 AM |

The reason I strength train and improve my conditioning:
1. To be stronger than you. 2. To be harder to kill. 3. To live longer. 4. To look better. 5. To be more useful in general. 6. To enhance my state of mind and well being. 7. To perform better at almost any given activity.

^ All of those except for #1. I'd say #2 as well...but I'm not going to lie, every now and then I think about how my level of fitness can help me if I ever encounter an attacker or am in peril.
But I have no desire to be stronger than anyone. I just would like to maintain a certain level of strength so that I can do normal shit...like being able to move furniture without hurting my back or having to call 2 friends. 2/1/2012 9:04:11 AM |

Up 0.4 lbs and down 0.2% bodyfat after January.
Not a terrible start, but not great either.
Weakness was a week in Miami full of drinking & debauchery. Strength was learning some new lifts and making myself do the lifts I hate like pullups instead of dicking around with curls, tricep extensions, etc.
Also I ate two pizzas that was probably a full pound of garbage.
February is a short month, try to be aggressive with your goals because by March we may all quit 2/1/2012 1:30:40 PM |

lol I just realized that the Broad Street Run is really 10 miles not a 10k
But that's ok because I got the date wrong, it's really May 6th so it looks like I have an extra week to train for the extra distance
So my plan is to trim up and lose some more body fat by doing what I really love, running and I'm still strength training on my rest days (except this week my schedule has been crazy so I'm running and then doing weights) I'm also trying to get in as many small races between now and the 10 miler and the half marathon in September. They keep me motivated, fun little goals.2/2/2012 9:46:59 AM |

Low carb is silly and only works short term. Find foods that will fill you up without sending you over the edge.
Plus if you're working out and on your feet all day, you need some carbs in your system. Instead of eliminating carbs entirely, try to eat more veggies/fruit and cut down your serving of carbs to 1 per meal.
Ran 5.17 miles tonight in 50 minutes. Yay. 2/2/2012 6:51:45 PM |

After a few weeks of battling what I think is a food allergy I am finally down to my first goal weight! I have lost 20 pounds and now weigh what I did in high school! Now, 20 more pounds to go! I'd really be happy with 10, but I will stick to my original goal. 2/2/2012 6:52:39 PM |

^ congrats!
and I'm eliminating my carb intake, just trying to decrease it. I barely workout at all besides 20 minutes on the elliptical when I can. I just plan to lower my carb intake until I can workout more, which will hopefully be in about 2 weeks. 2/2/2012 7:05:41 PM |
MattJMM2 CapitalStrength.com 1919 Posts user info edit post |
I disagree with the low carb being "silly".
For me, and most the clients I've set up on it, it works almost magically.
The secret is actually to cycle your carbs. Depending on your training, total calorie intake/deficit, and lifestyle... I recommend carb loading post work out, or for every 5lbs lost.
There's more to it than that, but I can't give away all my tricks for free.
