It's sad that our school can't afford a quality sledge hammer with a composite handle. Instead the players have to use a piece of shit that has probably already been fitted with a replacement handle.

I think they're going for the rugged, blue-collar look. But I realize that we need something to complain about.

damn, wasn't he injured a lot of last year with a knee injury?

(and UNC had like 3 injuries in the last week. don't know if they were season-ending though)

Tyler Purvis isn't a bad option at FB but who knows how much a fullback will get used. TOB rarely involved them.

Freshman Quinton Patterson recently switched from LB to FB and he could see early playing time with the Winkles injury. I also read that Maurice Morgan is now playing TE, which could be interesting because he's really damn fast.

So what time slots does the ACC have this year? I'm just curious since it could conflict with my Saturday men's soccer league.

They didn't run the ball but they were damn important blocking and receiving for that offense.

Last year as a RsSo, Winkles went 90 yards on ten receptions, including 2 TDs in wins over Maryland and WF

And apparently he had 29 yards on three kick-off returns

Gonna miss his blocks. He played LB in high school so his blocks were bordering on tackles.

Anddddd another injury today as well. Not for sure, but I heard that someone's thumb snapped protruding out of the skin and was rushed to hospital for immediate surgery.

He was right, not you. We rarely used the fullback, except to flank them wide as some sort of decoy. Our power running game was a single back formation.

even though i liked TOB for the most part.
not giving the ball to guys like taylor gentry and logan winkles is just plain stupid. yea sure TOB promised "a" carry for gentry - and he waited why? gentry gets hurt and never gets the chance. both gentry and winkles showed they could do damage on short passes, it's not like they were total question marks.

http://www.newsobserver.com/2013/08/13/3105459/nc-state-football-planning-indoor.html

Quote :
"N.C. State is planning the stages of building an indoor practice facility near Carter-Finley Stadium, Wolfpack athletics director Debbie Yow said Tuesday.

Yow is hopeful the $14million facility will be ready for spring practice in 2015. Virginia and Florida State opened new indoor practice facilities this year. Closer to home, N.C. State is the only ACC team in the Triangle without a place to move inside when it rains or gets excessively hot.

“We do need one,” Yow said. “Duke has an indoor facility and (North) Carolina has one.”

The facility will be built near the Murphy Center, which is next to Carter-Finley Stadium. N.C. State’s outdoor practice fields are also located near the stadium.

Yow said the building will be funded privately through the Wolfpack Club. Former coach Tom O’Brien long lobbied for an indoor practice facility. Yow said first-year coach Dave Doeren asked about the facility before he was hired.

“We have a better understanding now of when that might occur,” Yow said."

I've never understood the supposed NEED for an indoor facility either. Seems like a colossal waste of money at any school, but if the Wolfpack Club is footing the bill let them go nuts.

Went to the Coach's Caravan last night. Yow was there and talked about the upcoming indoor facility, as well as the massive renovation to Reynolds including elevators, an escalator, and A/C.

A friend turned to me and said, "Didn't she leave Maryland athletics bankrupt?"

I'm all for it if it is affordable. She said at the caravan that it will house an indoor facility for all outdoor sports teams. This could actually make our stadium look bigger if it's connected. My guess is it'll take some space where those trees are to the right of the murphy center where you walk through the bushes to get to PNC. If we build something there and add more sky boxes one day, it'll be really sweet looking.

I think putting plans in motion for this was probably something Doeren wanted if he was going to take the job. TOB lobbied for this for years. This will likely be the last renovation/addition to Carter Finley until the program reaches any new heights that require an increase in seats (bowl in the NEZ), or boxes (up above the East Side). It would be nice to see it somehow connected to Carter Finley.

With this, the Reynolds renovation, and what I hope will be soon be some improvements to Doak Field, our athletics programs need to start performing and keep performing to come up with the cash to pay for these things.

No doubt we had a good year overall, I just mean we need to get to the point as an athletics dept success-wise where every time we hear of a new facility upgrade or addition, we don't think "oh shit, I hope we aren't headed down the same path MD went down with Yow financially".

I don't think very many people are thinking that now, and Yow is a terrible AD if what people on the internet think about the athletic department's fiscal solvency in any way affects her decision making process.

Highly doubtful, but we can all dream.

From what I've read, the sight-lines were the biggest problem with Reynolds ... not necessarily the capacity. If the renovation smooths out the viewing angles and gives it some modern amenities (namely, a video board), who knows?

^no way in hell the athletic department moves from a building that holds 18k to a building that holds half that. Especially when we average 14-15k per game. You're talking alot of lost money.

I remember seeing a proposal that put Reynolds capacity @ ~6,500 after the renovation. They are going to shift the court and take 30% of the front of the building and turn it into a "Hall of Fame". No way the men ever move back, although they will likely continue to play 1 game a year there.
