some good news, btw:

i don't necessarily disagree with others...i would have no problem with the staff kicking him off the team. but this did apparently happen back in February. so i would hope the coaches have kept a very close eye on him since then. seems like a lot of DD's comments about Shad maturing and growing up came this offseason, after the apparent failed drug test. 8/28/2015 6:50:43 AM |

^ Was TOB really that great of a disciplinarian? Relative to other coaches, I mean. I know he talked about being a Marine and had the reputation of being a disciplinarian. But I don't know that I can really recall that he was tougher on this type of stuff than most other coaches. Didn't Sweezy assault a bus driver and steal a tip jar or something...and have a drug charge on a separate occasion? He stuck around, maybe served a couple games suspension, I don't recall. 8/28/2015 10:39:31 AM |

Eh players get in trouble everywhere, the key is just to do the suspension and be done with it. This is where we have been good with things. So when the guys in University Inn got that pot charge or the bb gun incident it came, they got disciplined, and then it was over.
You start looking bad when you do things like saying someone is indefinitely suspended and then they're at practice the next day (lol unc) or saying that you will "wait for the process".8/28/2015 2:07:40 PM |

7 wins is probably a reasonable pick. I know you list Wake as a bad team, but I don't think we've won a game @Wake since P-Riv was here.

We couldn't even win at Wake during Rivers' senior season. I was there. Man that was a shitastic game. We went in as a top-10 team IIRC and were down 28-3 within a few minutes. The game basically derailed any hope Rivers had at Heisman, even though he threw for like 500 yards that day.
Last time we won in Winston was 2001. That's almost unfathomable.8/31/2015 6:12:31 PM |

^^^i don't exactly get that. is he saying that state fans constantly are the ones saying "this is our year" because i don't think that's true. state fans tend to be more of the "wait till next year" variety.
also, that whole article is dumb imo. the acc isn't that bad. the ACC may go unrepresented in the CFP but it won't be because the conference is bad. i think national media types got used to the ACC being down a few years ago and still haven't quite realized that ACC is pretty solid now.

I try to avoid paying attention to NC State football to keep my stress levels down but I decided to look at the schedule this year and holy fuck, could we have a more boring first four games/out of conference schedule? I guess the benefit is we sure as hell better go to a bowl game but why would anyone think this is a good idea? 9/2/2015 7:46:05 PM |
dmspack oh we back 25535 Posts user info edit post |
^think part of it is due to somebody backing out last minute and us scrambling to reschedule. ODU did us a favor last year by playing us last minute when somebody bought out our series (maybe LSU or some name program like that)...on the condition we go on the road to play them this year. the south alabama thing, IIRC, was a leftover from Lee Fowler. it's a shitty schedule for fans, but it'll help guarantee a bowl and a nice looking record. and it's maybe not a terrible strategy for a team in our situation, imo. look at UVa recently...they've had brutal non-conference schedules and have been a laughing stock. we can have a laughable OOC and still go to a bowl gamae this way. but it's terrible for season ticket holders and fans. 9/2/2015 7:57:57 PM |
fenway All American 3135 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah, essentially ODU did us a favor by giving us a home game when we were in a bind so we had to agree to a road game. We're like one of three or four ACC teams to be playing at ODU in the next few years though.
South Alabama was some random left over from the Lee Fowler era. Future seasons will be better with Mississippi State, Marshall, ECU, and West Virginia. I'm excited to see some better teams, but am not looking forward to seeing ECU or WV fans come into Raleigh and having to deal with that shit on game day. 9/2/2015 8:28:22 PM |

Well that makes me feel a little better, I guess at least if we don't go 4-0 I will know the rest of the season isn't worth watching. 9/2/2015 8:56:19 PM |
LudaChris All American 7946 Posts user info edit post |
Our OOC schedule is garbage, but it doesn't really matter overall. We're trying to pad our record with wins for recruiting purposes and making sure we lock up a bowl bid.
OOC really means nothing other than building experience and getting your team ready for the regular season. Your bowl seeding depends on conference record, not like we're a contender for the playoffs anyway. A little worried that playing those 4 smaller schools won't help us prepare for Louisville, but at least we're having some road games. Louisville has 1 neutral field and 3 home games before playing us, but 2 of those teams will potentially be top 10 when they play.
This time last year people were saying our OOC was really weak and then we went out and almost lost 2 of them. Hopefully we won't come out flat and have to rally to win any of these games. 9/3/2015 8:40:02 AM |
