what's funny to me is how this "media catastrophe" really legitimizes the black person's perspective on the appropriate usage of the N-Word. Big Frank is prolly one of the whitest dudes around in college hoops, but what matters the most is that they know each other and have been competitors for a while. So, in a way, that is somebody that he knows and trusts so then he just naturally used the word in the same way that he would with one of his black friends.

you are missing/ignoring the component of irony in all of this. Having a practically all-white-dude team advance this far in the tourney is statistically rare, hence the jokes. It would be exactly the same if it were an all latino team, or hell, just take a look at Lin from a few years ago.
