no starting qb has been named. said last week that he'd probably be ready to name one this coming week. wouldn't be surprised if we see significant snaps from both McLendon and Finley vs W&M, but that's a guess on my part. Meyers is further behind due to an injury.

pretty cool that Jacoby Brissett looks like he might make it, back up, but still a good thing seeing as he's the first NC State QB since Rivers to perhaps play substantially in the NFL (bigger then Glennon obviously)

you can do so much better than that. russell wilson jokes are not only old, they're such low hanging fruit and even state fans are tired of his persona that they no longer really work like they used to.

would probably be funnier as a Brissett/UF QBs in the NFL joke than anything, tbh.

? not sure what you are referring to... I watch my fair share of Seattle pre-games and they always announce him as from Wisconsin and that is what most people know him as... give Brisket his due

i get the joke, i really do. it's just that you're a couple years late on trying to rile state fans up over Wilson. i mean this sincerely...you can do better. we're a defensive, sad bunch. it's easy to get us up in arms about some trivial "they ain't respectin' us" shit...but i'd venture to guess that most state fans (especially here) aren't taking that bait anymore.

hell, just mention that state/tennessee georgia dome game from like 5 years ago and you'll get a better reaction than bringing up Russell Wilson/wisconsin

Maybe one of these days Tennessee will land 1 QB in the NFL. Just one would be nice, let alone having 4 alum on NFL rosters, haha.

Two ACC Atlantic teams in the top 5 preseason poll, two SEC West teams. Only other 2 divisions worth paying attention to are the NFC and AFC.

Is anyone......excited?

Going into the season, we play 3 preseason top 10 teams, and two more who are in the top 25.

And we still don't know who will be our QB?

Ughhh.....it's gonna be a long season for Wolpfack Foobtall.

It will be like most years I will goto one OOC game assuming we will actually win then spend most of the game wondering if we are actually gonna lose to this team. Then I'll try to make a game against a team like Syracuse or BC where its maybe 50/50. If we win both I consider that a good year.

not really buying it, tbh, he's been hurt and barely practicing until last week. and once he started practicing, he was at QB

Well, it's been reported he's been practicing there, but it could just be a "we need bodies" thing.

The coaches did say he's an explosive athlete that needs to be on the field in some capacity. I think we all just assumed it would be special packages and trick plays, but perhaps trying him at WR makes sense, esp. if they're confident in McClendon or Finley who would both have a couple of years to play QB for us.

Had heard Meyers was definitely looking at 3rd QB, might just be a way to get him on the field.

As depleted at WR as we are, it makes sense. Especially in practice and with him coming off an injury.

Listen, last year was supposed to be the year we were building to. Unfortunately, Clemson, FSU, UNC, Miami, and Louisville were still better. Unfortunately all of those other teams had better coaching/ QB play, while we were unable to meet expectations. Unless a miracle occurs, we are drastically worse at the most important position. And on top of that, we fired the wrong coach (should've been DD)

No one in their right mind would expect a successful season this year. So I am just going to enjoy the few touches Samuals will get each game, and hope for a change in direction of the program after the season.

last year was never the year we were building to. that team was extremely young and thin. this year we are much deeper than last year and next year will probably be the peak in talent with the good recruiting classes we had. If we fail to win 6 games this year, fine but we should never fire our coach based on where we stand against top programs like clemson. that just delusional.

i like jacoby brissett and everything. but let's not pretend he was a great qb....he was pretty average last year, and IMO regressed from his first year here.

and i'll back up what E Man said. last year wasn't what we were building toward. it's hard to be building toward year 3 of coach's tenure. sure there were pieces in place last year and i think we should've and could've been better than we were. if you wanna look at it in terms of what you're building toward, why would you be building toward the third year where the coach's first recruiting class (which is usually not as impressive since they don't have a full recruiting season) are just RS Soph and juniors and his first full class are just RS FR and SO? wouldn't you theoretically wanna be building toward those guys' junior and senior years? i know you don't like Doeren, you've made that clear before. but i think it's pretty misleading to say that all along we were building for last year.

I'm just glad we're not preseason top-10. Imagine how delusional our fans would be by the end of the year when we don't live up to preseason top-10 expectations.

I am, all of this has caused my expectations to be set so low that I know I will be able to enjoy the games and even if we are getting blown out I know that I'll be having fun drinking beer and hanging out with friends. When I am hoping for a good season I get anxious during games, but now it's full on good times.

Beating UNC is not a static measuring stick. It used to be easy and now its an unreasonable expectation tbph. Just because UNC turns the corner and becomes a great program, doesn't mean we should EXPECT to become one simultaneously.

Toughest schedules in history? Maybe NC State's history. You need to add context Earl.

Also this season has 5-7 all over it.

lol, he's definitely not terrible. He's young, and also quite raw. He also missed a large amount of practices during the critical last 5 weeks of QB competition that had two veteran QB's with seniority competing. He's not gonna be handed the job right now due these things, despite his raw abilities at the position.

To keep Jakobi happy, and to utilize his super athletic skillset, they are just gonna get him some snaps in gadget plays, and that trick play type shit that DD loves. Expect a lot of these plays to end with Jakobi getting the ball on a WR jet sweep fake run, where he instead throws long to Hines down the sideline.

Jakobi's time under center will come, just not yet....

and we're thin af at WR now. but i'd have to guess that if he's practicing at WR, and doing so competently, he probably won't get much chance at QB in the future. maybe some gadget plays, but it's not that easy to keep switching positions. yeah if he's just practicing some at WR, then you might be right. but if he's moving there full-time, then i don't see him switching back. plus, mclendon and finley both have 3 years of eligibility left.

If he's as athletic as advertised, he can instantly be a part of a depleted part of the offense. And he would be miles ahead coverage and play wise.

It could be a really smart move for him.
