I'm pretty consistent both ways but I admit I have more detailed and specific basketballl criticism to offer because I've coached at a high level.
I think I'm pretty fair. Its ridiculous when people want to fire a coach for one bad year or a few bad games and I gave DD three years to build a program before judging him in year 4. I gave Gottfried a pass on blowing a loaded team in season 2 and gave him a preemptive pass on not fielding a team with adequate talent in year 5 but this year is put up or shut up. I won't tolerate another year below expectations from either coach.
What makes me different from most people on here is that I've been transparent from the start and don't react to emotional events like a single upset. One big win or loss isn't ever going to change my mind about a coach. This means, after a huge win, when everyone on here is talking about how we have a top program, I'm still looking at the big picture thinking we are mediocre. In contrast, after a devastating loss to a rival, while everyone thinks the world is ending, I'm disappointed, but staying the course

To me, a S16 appearance is more within the realm of possibility than winning the ACCT. I want no part of UNC, UL, UVA, and especially Duke. I'll believe that we can compete on that level when I see it. Until then I'll take the safe bet and assume a 6th place finish and getting bounced in the round of 32our biennial trip to the S16. 9/20/2016 5:21:40 PM |

Sorry if I'm late to the game on this but just looked at this season's schedule for the first time. Looks like a pretty weak OOC schedule. Not going to be good for the ol' RPI.
EDIT: Just looked at the previous page, looks look I'm not that late...thought I'd have to go digging to find it. But point stands.
Also, attn: Tennessee State... LSU wants their mascot and logo back...

Was searching for Kapita news and found this technician article: http://www.technicianonline.com/sports/article_20d56b92-7e1e-11e6-8d5a-07fd3f1534f9.html
Athletes were asked three questions about how they’ve handled the transition, which will be listed below.
Quote : | "Q: What has been the toughest part transitioning from your high school sport to an ACC school’s level of competition?
A: “Each of your teammates was their high school’s best player, so everybody is really good. It’s a tough transition, but I’m getting through it.” — Markell Johnson, freshman, men’s basketball
A: “It’s a good feeling first of all to be here with my teammates, we’ve been working so hard. The level you work at it is elevated because you’re striving for that professional next level.” — Ted Kapita, freshman, men’s basketball" |
Quote : | "Q: What is the biggest difference academically from high school to college? How are you handling it?
A: “Right now, college is better than high school. The classes are much different, you get the tutoring and help that you need. I have all the resources I need to be successful here.” — Johnson" |
Quote : | "Q: How has NC State become home for you since you've been here?
A: “My teammates get me through it, even though I’m kind of homesick, I hang out with them every day so they’ve helped me.” — Johnson
A: “The atmosphere with my teammates is excellent, we all get along very easily and do everything together. This has become home for me; I feel very comfortable now.” — Kapita" |
I find it slightly concerning that there was no answer from kapita for the second question

^Totally different situation. Kid was in 9th grade and transferred to a private school and drop down to the 8th grade. Apparently it clearly went against a rule in the NCAA: "A prospective student-athlete must complete their initial eligibility requirements not later than the high school graduation date of his or her class."
He didn't meet that rule because he started his HS eligibility and then transferred down. So he'll have to sit out next season and then he's eligible to play the next season.
Don't see how that situation has anything in common with our guys. It's a little encouraging that they're already investigating these cases. 9/24/2016 7:21:21 PM |

beej is fat like always. for depth and skill we need Yurt and Kapita cleared soon, obviously. but it's not like we haven't seen beej out there at 340 or whatever before. he'll be about as good as always - which isn't a good thing. but mostly, i'm just saying that beejay is always fat (even if it fluctuates and he's been down much lower before) and i don't think it's anything to be anymore concerned about than before we knew his weight....other than depth. will be interesting to see how Hicks is used. if Yurt and/or Kapita take a few games to get cleared, then Hicks will get plenty of PT early. but if i remember correctly, we kinda expected him to not be much of an immediate impact guy. 9/29/2016 7:51:28 PM |

the NCAA is notoriously slow on these kinda things it seems. so it shouldn't be surprising that we haven't heard anything it. also, the NCAA didn't start when he committed to us. they do the stuff in order of sport (so fall sports before winter sports)...so they maybe haven't been working on it as long as it might seem. but yeah...it's frustrating. 9/30/2016 7:23:26 AM |

The schedule part seems like a poor approach. I get knowing your team and adjusting accordingly, but don't see why you still don't grab a few more solid games regardless of the roster. There is still benefits of exposure(DSJ for example against a top team), and playing good competition if it meant building for the future even. I get not wanting to start 2-10, but I think there should be a consistent approach to the OOC schedule of a mix of tougher and easier opponents with a slight sliding scale one way or the other based on your roster outlook. 9/30/2016 10:16:12 AM |

I know why he did it. First off, scheduling weak because the twins left is silly not like with them we should have gone out and scheduled all top 10 teams. My point was that it is a terrible way to approach scheduling for exactly the reason this happened, plus why not always get a few tough games on there regardless of roster? This isn't NCAAF where those losses hurt you the same way. Who cares if you get your butt kicked some. Plus if you want any national recognition for our players, especially DSJ get him on TV some, get him up against big time teams. I know our conference schedule is generally very good, so it isn't like we are a mid-major in that sense and that always saves the schedule.
I just think it seems like a poor approach to always try and adjust the schedule based on how good or bad you think you are going to be, a better approach seems to create a well rounded schedule and see where things play out. Because now our OOC schedule is total garbage and we COULD be a pretty good roster(if all clears) and that now will get held against us especially if we don't finish up there in the conference. Losing to good teams hurts a lot less than not playing them, with the way RPI is valued(only 25% of your RPI is actually your record, the other 75% is your opponent and their opponents).9/30/2016 11:30:17 AM |

and Gott has done a great job scheduling in the past...it's basically the only reason we made the NCAAT a couple of times. it didn't work out this year, so that just means there is more pressure to get signature wins in conference and not fuck up in OOC.
