I have a question for the Android developers here.
I'm writing an app for my phone that utilizes the camera. The camera functions all work fine (I have a working preview, a working callback, and I can save pictures to the camera). The only problem is that the preview feed is sideways.
There is a method called setDisplayOrientation(int degrees), where I can physically rotate the preview to accommodate for the orientation of the phone. The only problem is that Eclipse keeps telling me that this method does not exist. The method is present in the Android package reference manual and I just updated all of my API's to the most recent version. I still can't get this method to work.
Does anybody have any advice for me to fix this? 10/16/2011 2:01:46 AM |

Nevermind. I just figured out that that method isn't compatible with Android 2.1. Once I updated the driver to 2.2, the method was available. 10/16/2011 3:25:14 AM |

what's the general consensus on whether wifi tether is safe to use (if you find a version that isn't blocked, that is)
can Verizon "track" the usage, or do they only flag accounts that download a ton of data 10/16/2011 10:33:43 PM |

^ i used wifi tether with 4G when i was at the beach for a week (4 users)...it worked well for about 2GB, and then it was quite obviously throttled (but still worked)
it was always my understanding that they throttle back the top 5% or something...at least for the rest of your billing cycle, after which it resets

new contract and upgrade prices are going to be the same unless you still have a NE2 credit left. The Bionic and Charge were both $299 when released.10/17/2011 4:41:28 PM |
Prospero All American 11662 Posts user info edit post |
NE2 is what I was talking about, so it would be $199 I guess. 10/17/2011 5:26:03 PM |

The Razr might be the best selling phone of all time, and it's certainly motorola's most successful. I had one for years myself.
I think it's a great idea to recycle the name.10/17/2011 6:33:43 PM |

accessories are nice, but who really spends $1,000 for a cell phone + accessories?
it seems that most people get a new device every 2 years... are you going to spend all that money on a phone, webtop, exercise buddy, etc. every 2 years?

Same price as any other high end LTE phone. Nothing that comes out anytime soon will be any cheaper. Is funny that they think people are going to be dumb enough to pay $299 for a phone and then $299 for the nanothing. Now bring on the ICS announcement.10/18/2011 12:59:53 PM |

I didn't notice that it was 32GB, but internal storage over 8GB means nothing to me on my smartphone. I'm damn sure not going to justify an additional 100 bucks for it.
I've pretty much decided that my next handset will need NFC. And I have no qualms over paying $299, but it should be a flagship device. 10/18/2011 1:37:43 PM |

Meh, the photon and bionic have been unlocked in short order....
From what I hear... the nexus is only like 2mm thicker, slightly narrower and 6mm taller. Don't ask for a source, I read it somewhere. I like motorola phones... though.
Anyone find out what chipset is in it? All they say is 1.2GHz dual core... but omap 4430 is not quite as nice as omap 4460...
Guess I'll have decisions to make tonight. Nfc isnt a deal breaker, nor is HD vs qhd. 4430 vs 4460... maybe... but additively... and blur... 10/18/2011 5:32:52 PM |
