But it’s up to Davis to set a zero-tolerance policy about any NFL-related activities at least until the NCAA investigation has concluded. " |
Also, can people stop acting like they should have had a national championship. Just because Les Miles went all crazy Les Miles and let them hang around that game they think they could have beat Auburn, Oregon, Alabama, etc.
thats like if we were to say 2005 team should have won a national championship for cause it had a top defense and a QB who threw a lot.5/25/2011 5:55:25 PM |

haha for real. i get the insinuation, but that's a stretch.
"They bought year old cars when they could have bought new models!"
i don't buy it.
i do however feel that they have been operating in a less than honest fashion, but only time/NCAA sanctions will tell (if they even come down on UNC)] 5/26/2011 12:09:53 AM |

I think they're getting at it being fishy that several players buy a used vehicle right when they make their millions. Most people would get a brand new car, not one that is 1 year old. 5/26/2011 12:17:16 AM |
DalesDeadBug In Pressed Silk 2978 Posts user info edit post |
oh it's definitely fishy. but if the NCAA has taken this long to even consider sanctions on the UNC football program, imagine what it will take to make these issues come to light. 5/26/2011 12:25:22 AM |

It wouldn't be that weird for them to get year-old cars. Some people just don't want to buy new cars under any circumstances and at that age they're probably still getting that sort of advice from their parents.

and yes the "bought an older car after the draft" shit is a far stretch
it's a sounder financial decision to buy something that's already depreciated.... sounds like these guys are getting solid financial advice... which you would hope to be the case for someone who starts making a shit ton of money. I wouldn't buy a brand new Maserati under any circumstances if i could get a year old one for a significant discount.

Well now that the hammer as been dropped on USC's appeal one of two things are going to happen:
1. Carolina will and should get punishment at least equal to what USC received.
2. The NCAA lets them skate with a slap on the wrist and there is a major backlash against them and I would imagine USC will sue the shit out of them. 5/27/2011 9:35:59 AM |

You have to be completely delusional to think the NCAA would favor UNC football over Ohio State or SC. Tar Heel football is a shitstain on those two programs' underwear.
The NCAA certainly won't let off UNC football easy if they are willing to go after real money making programs like tOSU and SC. Their punishment will be according to findings I'm sure.
Shit, even in bball the NCAA has dropped the hammer on elite programs in the last 15 yrs.

Its not so much about protecting UNC or OSU as it is about PR and protecting the NCAA.
Say what you will about Carolina's issues but they've been handling the PR battle much better than USC or Ohio State. The fact that OSU has been so brazen, fairly uncooperative, and doesn't appear to plan to cut ties with Tressel means they are pretty much asking to be sanctioned hard (Obviously nobody is going to get the death penalty).
The general public perception from at least a portion of people will be that Carolina's issues aren't a big deal and that they cooperated (even though we know they just say they are being cooperative but are really fighting to keep all the information tight).
I do agree that it would be easier to hammer a program with no national championship or bcs implications like carolina, but the level of the OSU stuff is so much that they have to get punished and can't get off the hook entirely therefore...
If UNC was to get a more severe punishment than OSU this would likely create a shitstorm for the NCAA which is already dealing with a lot of criticism for a large number of amateurism, unfairness, and other issues. Once again this is all about perception. By and large UNC isn't viewed as dirty and has a lot more support in the media both here and nationally. Also the fact that they aren't out there parading around and aren't a national program means less attention. So in the event they do get a stiffer punishment they would go out and whine that Ohio state was so much worse and got off easy, creating a problem for the NCAA. The NCAA is going to protect itself first and foremost.
Therefore the following are in my opinion the outcomes in order of most likely to actually occur.
Most Likely 1. Ohio state hammered (Vacated Wins, Scholarship Reduction, 40% chance of Show-Cause for Tressel), Carolina skates (only vacates wins) 2. Ohio state skates (Vacates wins), Carolina Skates (vacates wins) 3. Ohio state hammered (Vacated Wins, Scholarship Reduction, 40% chance of Show-Cause for Tressel), Carolina hammered (Vacate Wins, lighter scholarship reduction than OSU 50% chance Butch is fired but no show cause or any penalties for him) 4. Ohio state skates(vacates wins), Carolina hammered (scholarships and vacated wins) LeastLikely
[/words]
Once again this isn't about what I think should happen or is right or just just what I think will happen cause of the perception and the PR handling and the NCAA protecting itself from accusations of protecting big schools and taking it out on the lesser programs.5/27/2011 10:59:24 AM |

If the hammer comes down, then the recruiting will take a big hit and won't have the chance to be intimidating.
And honestly, as far as records go, the only time it matters is when we play them head-to-head. Not being in the same division means we don't have to care. In fact, why not have UNC win all their Atlantic games accept for against us...it would be the best thing that could happen. 5/27/2011 6:48:00 PM |
