They will complete the investigation this month, it says.
There will be more coming out. However this point:
Quote : | "At this time, the possible violations primarily involve the football program. However, please note that new information often is developed during an investigation that leads to expanded inquiries." |
makes me feel all happy inside
what did you guys think a letter of inquiry was?

Actually, in the back of my mind, i kept wondering as well because the LOI has to come first, which is a "big" deal in its own right, and no one from UNCCHEAT ever said that it had come. This just makes Greg Barnes and the "inside sources" over there look more moronic. Although, there's still time for the Letter of Allegations to arrive by friday.
And "hell yea" on more cheating to be uncovered. 6/8/2011 10:08:45 AM |

I was reading on IC and came across several posters saying stuff like this:
Quote : | "But UNC has set the standard for laying down in the face of an assault. Give these guys an inch and they take a mile.....
---------------------------------------------
and this is WHY the NCAA would be VERY wise to lessen penalty against UNC as a sign to other schools that co-operation does indeed lessen impact. " |
First, lol at "co-operation". But, why does every UNC fan assume UNC was so cooperative? I know they made a players sit out of games when they weren't cleared, but is that really bending over backward to cooperate? I thought that was a pretty common thing to do, because if you play the player and he is found to be ineligible then you forfeit the game. I just think it's funny how UNC fans assume that UNC was so "co-operative" and even "set the standard" for doing so...honestly, we don't know how cooperative UNC's athletic dept, staff, and players were with the investigators. The truth is, the public does not one way or the other...UNC fans just assume they were cooperative.6/8/2011 11:11:18 PM |

no one will know how cooperative they were until the matter is settled. i would bet a lot of money that they have either withheld information or presented information in a less than truthful manner. i don't know what they might have done, but i do know that the ultimate cooperation would have been to fire Butch Davis because if he says he didn't know, he has no control over his players. if he knew, it's even worse. 6/8/2011 11:24:21 PM |

UNC was basically asked by the NCAA about previously taking a cookie (Austin/Quinn/Little) while simultaneously having their hand in the cookie jar (Tutor) during questioning about the initial instance. They claim they self reported the tutor mess, but if the adult sees the child with their hand in the cookie jar, they are already busted. It's like you know you've done wrong, and you know the judge/jury know what's up so you try and act like you've confessed to the second round of misdeeds when in fact it's the furthest thing from the truth. I would be irate if I were an NCAA investigator if this was the message the school was putting out publicly.
And there's no way Butch had anything to do with holding out players who were not proven to have committed violations. That was all Baddour. And whether we as NCSU fans like that, they may just avoid LOIC because of it. While in the real world it would be considered the right thing to do in an uncertain situation, it's almost saint like to keep a player out in big time NCAA athletics. At least that's the UNC spin, which I half way agree with, but I'm not sure it matters. But in no way, shape or form did UNC self report the academic stuff. The NCAA sat down with one of the players about the agent stuff and they discovered it during those interviews. Whether the player blurted it out or the NCAA dug it up, I don't know, but UNC would have NEVER "reported" it if the NCAA hadn't shown up in the first place back in June.
UNC can scream to the high heavens about Ohio State and Auburn all they want. Ohio State is going to get a concussion and the Auburn stuff is still ongoing contrary to what UNC believes.

Hell, I don't think UNC has been cooperative by simply pointing to the whole trial to get parking tickets publicized. I can't even imagine what else they are hiding over there. 6/9/2011 12:12:30 AM |

cooperative is turning over all phone, email and bank records of the players involved. i don't personally feel that something like bank records are any of the ncaa's business, but that is a big part of the cooperation you keep hearing about. and the school didn't turn over the parking ticket stuff to the media, but that doesn't mean the ncaa doesn't have it 6/9/2011 8:12:24 AM |

That is laughable, how else is the NCAA going to know what players are being paid. If big tits mcgee was dumb enough to blab about stuff on Twitter, you have to figure he deposited any extra money recieved in a bank account. I think that is definitely the NCAA's business in a case like this.6/9/2011 8:50:21 AM |

So the athletic department handed over player's personal bank records? How do they even have access to that? Or did the players do themselves? And what jurisdiction does the NCAA have to even request that info? 6/9/2011 9:08:52 AM |
steviewonder All American 6194 Posts user info edit post |
^They don't have jurisdiction, but they can still request the info. If it is not provided they can assume guilt or innocence based on other circumstances/evidence. 6/9/2011 9:11:01 AM |

Yeah, that's why compliance with the NCAA is something they encourage. If you stonewall them well enough, they can have a hard time finding good evidence against you. So they come in and ask for these things, and when you say no they go about finding impropriety some other way, and when they find enough to assume that you keeping those records secret was done because there is something damning in there...
That's when they fuck you. 6/9/2011 10:42:37 AM |

Cooperation is mandated during an NCAA investigation. UNC was obligated to hand all that stuff over. Section 32.1.4 of the manual.
And the NCAA has access to student-athletes bank records because the SA's sign a form every year that gives the NCAA access to their bank records. 6/9/2011 2:34:17 PM |

you still maybe right, but this reads differently to me
are you telling me UNC willingly gave up the players emails and bank statements, but had a problem with the parking tickets?
ok nm i think i might be confusing what the NCAA asked for and what the news organizations asked for

yeah the ncaa doesn't have to abide by ferpa or anything else. if they ask and you don't provide, then you get screwed 6/9/2011 6:34:27 PM |

The university has to abide by FERPA, I sincerely doubt the NCAA is going to ask for something FERPA protected and then slam you for not giving it to them. 6/9/2011 9:35:58 PM |

so technically they do abide by it, they just make athletes waive it
