Simply saying our team sucks this year and that he got outcoached tonight, the same day he signed an extension.

Also, to call me a Doeren homer is a stretch. I always said that football coaches should be given 3 years to rebuild as it is much more difficult to rebuild a football team that is devoid of talent like the one TOB left him and to find talent to fit schemes. We have been the youngest and then one of the youngest teams in our conference the last 2 years. If we suck in 2016 then I'll join the let's move on group.

Yes. But this was also a pretty bad loss. I'm hoping some of it was shaking off the rust and getting started. But they had the exhibition game the other night so I dunno. We still have talent but our effort wasn't there consistently tonight. And even though our perimeter defense wasn't good, not every team we face is going to have so many shooters hit at such a high percentage.

Honestly I dont even think W&M played that well. They blitzed us to start the game but after that played a pretty typical game from what I've seen of them the past 4-5 years. This was on us.

yeah, we played fine after the first 10 minutes.

We will never win games with Cat playing that badly and Henderson injured. We all knew that.

William and Mary will be in the tourney this year.

We didn't deserve to win anyway with the crowd turnout last night.

Gottfried's teams will always suck defensively. This team has a chance to be better defensively than last year's team simply because of our athleticism. If the Martins play smarter ball, that will go a long way for our team defense. Their length and energy, along with Abu's, along with Anya's length (and no energy), and Cat's quickness will lead to a lot of turnovers and blocked shots. Fundamentally, we will always suck at working through/switching on screens, rotations, etc.

This team will go as far as Cat takes it. Everyone knew as much coming into the season, and Cat was his restrained passive early season self last night. We'll see if he learns to be aggressive (Seems like an easy fix...just attack the basket!!!!)

On the positive side, Martin's a better three point shooter, Abu's a beast, and Rowan impressed me, as well. Offensively, Rowan will be better than Wood or Turner before he leaves (maybe not as automatic, but more well-rounded). Defensively, they all sucked. Rowan's feistier, so I'm betting he improves. He missed a lot last night, but obviously all reports show he's a streaky shooter. But unlike Turner or Wood he can put it on the floor too.

I still think we'll be on the bubble and sneak in.

We were great at defense in the 2nd half of last season. Thats whats so disappointing. I thought he had figured out the defense last year and expected this year's team to come out shutting people down at the start of the season. Theres no reason we shouldn't be a great defensive team with the guys we have. Cat should be able to give pgs trouble with his quickness, the martin twins length should give wings trouble and abu/anya/martin/freeman can erase mistakes at the rim.

I saw a lot of guys waiting at the rim for blocks last night which is a bad idea
I saw a lot of guys letting the fast break pass them so they could make the lebron block
i saw a lot of guys watching shots get blocked while the other team got in position to get the putback.

Not really. State has sucked at FB for 10+ years and has been nationally relevant in hoops the past five years. I know some might disagree, but State is a basketball school, not a football school. UT isn't either, so I don't know why you're still posting here.

If you think critically for a moment, you'd realize that Gottfried has been here for 5 years, while DD has been here two years, so that's partially the reason the Gott thread is longer. Add to the fact that State is a basketball school and people have more to talk about in terms of BB, this is really one of the dumbest observations I've seen in a while.

I am saying programs go up, programs go down. If you pick the current trend to define if a program's all time history sucks then you are being very short sighted (e.g. see the Bama reference a few posts up, "oh shit, Bama isnt winning a lot, that program sucks!").

That's great man, it really is. You should know firsthand then what an absolute miserable experience and lot in life most State fans experience and the agony many of us continue to endure. We celebrate MOMENTS or championships from decades ago. We still pull for State, even though we have countless reasons not to. It defies all logic and reason; it's loyalty and tradition at its absolute finest. I just don't get why as a grown adult (who actually spent a good deal of time here and developed some sort of connection with the school and area) that you would want to get into a pissing match with State fans, when your own teams have zero to talk about. It's just sad. And spare me this bullshit about being "on topic"
