They don't seem to care too much about illegal benefits, so I'm really only looking for the bit of info that proves once and for all that Butch has been lying the whole time.

lol from the Something Awful NCAA Offseason thread:

Quote :
"UNC, perpetually attempting to pervert the administration justice, made a rare attempt to protect individual privacy in the context of the investigation. It didn't work and a vast breadth of parking information has been released. It turns out that our football players and their families received a bunch of parking tickets. What does this mean? Hard to say. I doubt highly that the Raleigh press is expected to give Carolina the benefit of the doubt on anything. It's vogue to ascribe to Carolina the most nefarious motivation possible and I don't doubt that's what they'll continue to do.

Pretty much everyone with any familiarity knows that Chapel Hill is one of the worst parking towns in America and that tickets are handed out like candy, I had over 20+ easy in four years and I thought I did well...not all of them get paid anyway"

I've been in Chapel Hill for three years and the only parking ticket I ever got in my life was in downtown Raleigh, soooooo....

I love how all the Carolina fans are trying to make it sound like getting 10-12 parking tickets a year is normal.

When I was still in school I had a friend that just parked where they wanted and accepted the tickets because they found out that it was cheaper than a semester parking pass... so I expect his parking tickets totaled just under one grand.

I did this to a lesser extreme. Usually ended up with 7-8 tickets per semester.

He was smart about it. Back in those days I think a city of Raleigh parking ticket was something like $6, so he'd park just off campus and take the chance on getting a ticket. Just a few feet over (on campus) and the ticket would have been somewhere between $40 and $80. I can't remember anymore.

I think Raleigh caught on to the chance to make money so they raised their ticket fees a few years after that.

It was $6, if you didn't pay in time it went up to $25.

as to driving a fellow student's car...i have something to add

i used to work with a former NCSU LB who shall go unnamed. he was telling me that Torry Holt bought a car for his younger brother, nothing flashy, just something to get him around. the NCAA compliance dept. at State notified Terrence Holt that this is an NCAA violation, and he had to give it back. now, granted Torry was alumni and could be considered a booster...if the NCAA won't let a guy give his younger brother a car, i would imagine it gets hairy if you are using other students' vehicles. i understand there is a distinction between the two situations, just trying to elicit how backwards some of the rules can be.

I don't buy that. Of course someone's brother can give them a car. You saying if Philip Rivers son played football here 20 years from now, he couldn't drive a car his dad gave him?

Trail of tickets ends on 8/3/10. EVR681 (SC) obviously learned his lesson since he has 3 pending from the past month

https://dpsdns68.psafety.unc.edu/cit/list.aspx

actually most of these guys still have them from after the list ends

i don't see how this would be a violation. there is some kind of exemption for pre-existing relationships past a certain point and i'm sure a brother would fall well within that.

Look at the asshole with the Land Rover with license plate ZRZ6681. Almost $600 in unpaid from 2010-2011.

How is it they dont get booted?

Hell if they say all students can get off of tickets then, UNC need to explain to the taxpayers why they aren't collecting.

I believe so, I had class in Daniels mostly, basically right beside the middle tunnel in a faculty lot. I had to come in from Pullen and every day come up with some random excuse for the person working the gate and they would always let me in haha

^^land rovers depreciate HARD. if it's a few years old, it wouldnt be surprising. if it was newerish then it might be a question worth asking.

actually if somebody was to theoretically go ahead and pay these then there would be no way for UNC to cancel out tickets and the athletes would have to pay that back to avoid getting suspended

wonder if UNC is pulling strings and getting some brand new, yet mysteriously backdated Pell Grants for all 11 players so they can doctor up some paperwork at the local Nissan dealership

They've gotten (somewhat) smarter about this. I got completely rejected once when I was running really late and was actually running an errand for the CoE Dean's office. Another time I was just picking up a professor and they let me through.

I parked at that lot behind the Burger King on avent ferry that didn't seem to be serving anything and nobody ever parked at. Then take either the Avent Ferry or Centennial bus to campus.

So much easier, faster, and less crowded than Centenial park and ride. Didn't seem like many people knew about it.

Yeah this was like 5 or 6 years ago, it was always oh I have to drop off a paper or pickup my roommate or drop this book off to a professor. When I got the warning ticket I said ok I'll park here till I get like 3 tickets then find somewhere else but they never came

whether or not the hammer comes down on UNC, i still enjoy the fact that they have absolutely nothing but distractions to deal with.

meanwhile, TOB is constructing the perfect plan to destroy the Death Star....for the 5th straight time.

I'm seriously considering dropping 15 bucks off this visa gift card I got as a rebate to try and create some chaos by paying off one of the tickets. The NCAA has to look into how these things are going to be paid for. Only thing is need to make sure its for a current player.

it's very possible that NC State didn't even want to sniff around a possible infraction, and made him get rid of the car. regardless, Torry gave Terrence a used Nissan Altima, and Terrence was forced to give it up. beyond that, i don't know what happened. i just thought it was weird and stupid.

Been doing a little looking around their ticketing system and when you type 7 of those plates in, it responds with "The following violation(s) were found for the information you entered as well as any other license plates on your record." YWS5599, RTV6111, TYE5390, XZW9689, H2411192, WXB5184, and YYH6920 all have tickets under their plate in the car with LP 16911471 which is the 2006 Dodge Charger (VIN# 2B3KA43G56H241192)

What could this mean?

That means one player drove 8 different cars.

Any guesses as to who that player was?

That, by itself, should show what's been going on.
