Leslie will not play the 4 at state. It won't happen. With Cothron, Howell, and Painter there will be plenty of talent there for us to keep him at the 3.

That's what I've heard, since we really only have 2 schollys for next year anyway, so someone will have to go on medical hardship or transfer to make room for a 3rd commit. We'd have to have 2 people off scholarship because of hardship or transfer for both Leslie and Cothron to come here which seems pretty unlikely.

no we wouldn't. only one. we have two scholarships available next year (horner and degand). so far, we only have harrow signed-on (brown's scholly was from this year). we'd only need one hardship or transfer to have a 4-man class (including brown).

You're right, my math was off (I forgot about Degand since he's been in the doghouse with Lowe and not playing). All things considered, it's a good position to be in to have to choose between Cothron and Leslie (if it even comes down to that).

... is absolutely not true. Picking up Cothron is more likely to HELP State as opposed to hurt. As I understand it Leslie wants to play the 3, which is a more natural position for him. Having the SF & PF/C positions locked up is a real plus, b/c (once again... as I understand it) Leslie doesn't want to have to grind it out game in game out with more physical SFs.

If I'm CJ Leslie I want to play at a school that has:

1) Prep for the NBA - yes
2) Playing time - yes, considering that Wood and Davis are playing the 3 right now.
3A) Surrounding talent running the point and (3B) the post - 3A is a toss-up, given that the talent will be coming in with CJL as opposed to being here already. 3B looks much better.
4) Good national exposure - Not exactly.


I think the lack of a backcourt is a key issue for CJL. So what would you do if you (CJL) were still interested in State, but were uneasy about the backcourt? Well, I'd probably check out the incoming talent...

It'd bother me that Cothron wants to get the starting job from Day 1 only if he was a 4-yr type player. Nowadays the best recruits have one eye on the NBA. Not sure about Cothron's NBA potential, but if he projects himself to be a 2-yr max type player, then I don't blame him at all for reserving judgment.

Bottom line is that the kid doesn't owe us anything. We don't have 50 other kids at his level beating down our doors for scholly's. He wants to play for the Pack, but if he's going to ride the bench then what's the point? He has to position himself to showcase his skills if he wants to play at the next level.

Thing is Cothron waiting is not necessarily a bad thing. The point I think most people (that are bagging Othron's "commitment issues") are missing is that if de-commits, then it'll ve b/c Painter/Howell/V-berg show too much promise. Good for State I say. Lowe can instead go out and get more backcourt depth, which is our major position of need.

Don't me wrong. Cothron is a great recruit. But if he de-commits, then he didn't have the confidence to beat out our current recruits, so what did we really lose?

In an interview yesterday he said he was staying at Walton. But then his facebook apparently said the opposite. I did not see it but read about it. It would be fantastic if he went over there. Realistically though, I would prefer he just enroll at State in the spring.
