I was at Virginia for grad school during last season when they went undefeated for so long. It kills me how much more State fans are into basketball than the fans in Charlottesville and how much shitty we've been (save for the late season runs we always go on). I'd love to have a couple of recent ACC championship banners in Raleigh.

^^what about if we got 4 good wins? Would that erase a mediocre season? Not sure about others but final four appearance is easily my 4th place goal behind natty, acc tourney and acc first place. Point being, you play the whole season to get a chance at those couple extra wins. Unless you finish first, your regular season is basically meaningless except for seeding.

Ive said every year that my beef with gott is his player development. No big has greatly improved under his watch. I'm not sold that he is the reason that Warren is in the pros either.

Gott fucked up at the end of regulation. Left Anya in there to brick a FT when we could have gone up 4, then didn't have the guys switching screens allowing VT a great look at a 3 which they converted. Game should have never gone to OT. How does VT have more depth than us too? Sad...

Cat is significantly better than he was two years ago. This time two years ago, he was watching Tyler Lewis steal minutes because he knew how to get the ball to TJW. Now Cat is a first team all ACC caliber player.

Gott's biggest issue is lack of depth from losing Washington and having Rowan as the only playable recruit. Our depth is a huge issue as our team is running out of gas in the 2nd half.

Totally agree that Cat has improved drastically from two years ago. I don't know that Gott will have the horses to make the tourny this year. I never understood why he basically benched Washington last year for the lack of offensive skill in the three big men we have now but it seems to be biting us now.

washington was benched because he was taking shots from actual good players and was a total disaster on defense

this year we only have 1 good player and the defense honestly couldnt get much worse so yeah, it's a shame he's gone. dude will be a 24 year old junior next year too so kind of a bad move on his part as well.

I get that Washington was a black hole on offense and wasn't the team's best defender (which is why we started playing so well when Freeman was inserted in the starting line up last season), but I still don't quite get why his minutes were so drastically reduced last year. He had a lot of negatives, but had the most offensive talent of any of our big men. We don't beat LSU without him.

Granted, its a lot easier to look back at things in hindsight when we thought Abu would likely take a step forward, and thought at the very least we'd have Cat & Henderson to score on the perimeter, but I still don't think his transfer made a ton of sense for either party. Our perimeter scoring should increase a lot next year with a healthy Henderson, Dorn and DSJ, but we need a talented big man in the post next year pretty badly.

Having DSJ will be awesome, but he realistically won't be much better than Cat. We will need other players to get better (Rowan, twins, Anya, Abu) in order to make a significant jump in the ridiculous ACC.

Watching OU and KU thinking "this is what happens when guys come back to school". Every other team with a top 10 class from 2012 still has at least one player left. Gott is otherwise a great coach and thats really the only difference between us and them.

Cody can handle the ball some, but Caleb just sits there and dribbles for 5-6 secs every time he touches it. Just kills the ball movement. On the press, Caleb needs to attack the middle, but not the rim as he is not athletic enough to finish against ACC bigs.

i'm embarrassed to admit that i still don't know the difference between the twins even though their games are completely different. I figure it out at some point during almost every game but then i get confused again. I use the alphabetical system for figuring out which name goes with which number but i still get the players mixed up. Looking and knowing 14 is caleb doesn't help me with who is which player

cody was almost non-existant last year. he's improved quite much since then so i can agree with this comment. caleb had some flashes of greatness earlier this year from a shooting percentage stance, but we need him to be more consistent.

I know I'm going to get trashed for this, but Debbie Yow needs to give Kelvin Sampson a call! We will never win an ACC title with Mark Gottfried, I think he is a good coach, but never gonna to better than get us to an NCAA and an occasional run to a Sweet 16. He won't get farther than that because, he will be out coached. I think we all agree he ain't a top notch Xs and Os guy. Call Kelvin, a NC native who has won conference championships, ask Roy Williams, and been to a final four. I'm sure he would love to coach in the ACC at HOME!
