"khcadwal - a cheap Brother or something will work just fine for you. Actually, I hear that the antique all metal singers are freaking amazing workhorse machines that hardly ever break, if that's an option instead. Since you wouldn't need any fancy stitches, a cheap one of those would suit you just fine.

I want a serger so bad."

THANKS!!! ugh yea i just looked @ sergers for a hot second just to see how much they were (not that i need one) and those things are EXPENSIVEEEEEEEE.

anyway on CL i have seen some old metal antique singers that come with a table and everything for around $70 so that could be a good option too! thanks! yay i'm exited.

i really want a toile futon cover and/or sofa slip cover. i think having both would be overwhelming with patterns so one is going to stay black and then the other is going to have toile. but i couldn't find a toile slipcover OR futon cover online that i liked. i just want a black french country-ish fabric toile cover. i'll probably end up putting it on the futon since those are super easy to make. OR i guess i could just find a duvet cover and alter it to fit my futon but its cheaper to make one anyway since fabric is so cheap and i'd just need to sew a giant sack and close it with buttons.

then i need drapes. but again i can't find any in my price range that i like so i'm gonna make them!! i'm excited to have projects.

lucy - I doubt you have a vitamin D deficiency with as much running outside as you do.

as far as your hair is concerned, I've heard of women going through hormone changes (i.e. puberty, pregnancy, menopause) who experience a change in the shape of their hair follicles. the hormone changes can also come from an over/under active thyroid.

sooooooo in conclusion, get a blood test to check hormone and nutrient levels.

^^^ I wouldn't buy one of those antique ones unless you know what you're doing with sewing and know where to buy replacement needles. My mom has one of those along with her regular machine and it's a bitch to work with.

Sergers are ridiculously expensive. It makes me a sad panda

My recommendation is to go to one of the sewing/quilting shops in the area and test out the sewing machines. Get a feel for what sort of machine you like. You'll make a much better shopping decision that way.

i bought a kenmore sewing machine from some lady on craigslist for $50... i don't think she ever used it, all the accessories were still in the sealed plastic baggy! it was a deal for me, i love the machine, it's never given me any problems that a you tube video couldn't solve for me.

a note on the sergers.. my bf bought me a bernina serger for Christmas and it came with classes at my local shop. i was like AWESOME!!

anyway, i recently finished a skirt on it that i made from an old bed sheet.. i did the whole thing on the serger and it turned out really cute

so i went to banana and tried on the dress i posted on the last page. yeah, it wasn't extremely flattering. but i did buy this!

it was on sale for $35.00 in the crabtree store. LOVE the skirt. i'm probably going to go back this weekend and pick it up in some other colors (they had navy, beige, the olive-brown one i got, and black). seriously....most comfortable skirt ever and it has pockets! i wore it last night to dinner with my boyfriend and dad and wore a nice beige tank tucked into it and some stilletos.

i also got this, which i'm wearing today:

much cuter on in person than on the model. $25. wohoo!

so i got this dress in red, yellow, coral, and teal...

i think it looks pretty darn good...

would i be crazy to get it in black, purple, gray, and brown as well?

i have a bad habit of buying one of every color when i find something i like...

i am seriously lacking in sundresses (i have to have sleeves so this really fits the bill)...they are $15 a pop

i wish i could find different styles that work...but that's probably not going to happen...so i'm thinking i should just stick with what i know will work...

so i found another dress with the same cut as 2 of the dresses i posted a few pages back

its purple black & white, super cute & $15 at ross!

kadwhackle.. i also got some cute sandals for $10/ea very similar to the gold ones you were looking at. mine are black but similar style. might want to hit up a ross, tjmaxx or marshalls.

ross is better than marshalls in my neighborhood and i dont even know where a tjmaxx is around here

^ i remembered your post and was thinking that! i don't know what is good in greensboro but we have all of those so i'm gonna hit them up cause i'm sure i can find SOMETHING - they usually have fergie and jessica simpson shoes and at the least nine west

and LP, i too have some dresses in the same cut. i have these dresses from last season at old navy just scoop neck 3/4 length sleeve cotton dresses and i have them in 4 colors haha - but with accessories, belts, scarves, different shoes, etc you can make it so people don't even notice! and like those fold over wrap skirts from old navy i have in a bunch of colors, too. so i'm with you on that. go for it!!

but i tried them on again and immediately wanted to go out tonight so i could wear one

lp if you find something that works for you, go with it! i do the same thing, buying something i love in multiple colors. and ^^ is right, just accessorize differently and you're golden

and heads up on a place called charming charlies. they're wildly popular in texas (houston, at least) and its a really cute accessory store. they have everything from shoes, purses, necklaces and earrings to picture frames and dresses. its kind of like a grown up claires and higher quality. i love it!

and it looks like there will be one opening in greensboro soon! (kadwhackle) & orlando! (lucyinthesky)

its a $120 investment at $15 a pop

if you like the cut and all the colors, i dont see a problem. you could spend $120 very easily on a lot less.. and each dress is a whole outfit!

^^ online only? i like to shop in store for accessories!

thanks, Misha and Taruny.

You should check around Misha bc they are $15 right now.

Gotta be honest, because I don't wear dresses that often, I am wicked insecure. I need to find more with pockets so I can have a place for my insulin pump.

i got my eyebrows threaded today at the mall ($10!)

anyone else had it done? i was pretty impressed. it was like 5min and cheaper than waxing. also hurt less and my skin experienced less redness.

im a fan and i will be back! the only issue is that you can hear the thread popping the hair out of the follicle which is a little weird & it pinches but if you get waxed, you can handle it

also i'd recommend against wearing makeup, my eyes were watering like a mother

Jen - no on the cami. I don't think that dress is very flattering.

QUESTION:

how do you shave your knees?!?!?!?!

I've tried going up, going down, sideways, knee bent, knee straight... and I have yet to find something that works. HALP ME TDUB
