Eh, anyone who thought about it for more than a couple of seconds knew the guy who sold it wasn't some innocent kid. That said, the unsealed records pretty much destroy any shield law claims Gizmodo might have tried to bring up since Apple and the police clearly knew before the warrant was issued who has sold the phone. 5/14/2010 7:57:06 PM |

Rumor mill hard at work:
AT&T has requested non of its employees take vacation the week of June 22nd for the iPhone 4g release. This isn't really anything ground breaking since we already knew that. The interesting part is that AT&T is being extra generous this time around for early upgrades for iPhone owners, rumor is because Verizon is expected to get the iPhone in September so they want to lock as many people in for a further 2 years before that happens.
Not sure how solid this rumor is since the terms of AT&T's exclusive iPhone agreement with Apple have been revealed and they're locked in for 5 years which puts it out to 2012.

i love being on a family plan. I just use other people's upgrades. Wonder how much a 32gig 3gs would go for once the new one launches? Probably enough to pay for the subsidized 4g. 5/15/2010 7:57:57 PM |

^Sell it 3 days-week before the launch. They had a tutorial on this on some blog (engadget, giz, or lifehacker, maybe?) last year and they were getting 350-400 for 3Gs before the 3GS came out.
I'll probably sell my 3GS that way and will only get the 4G if they wow me. If not, I'll get some Android phone while I wait for the Galaxy S to come out. I'm getting sick of the "walled garden." I use Google Voice as my primary number now and it's a pain having to use the web app. Also, it sucks that we still don't have a native turn-by-turn navigation app. 5/17/2010 12:32:07 AM |

I wonder if they will every add the iPad as a subsidized option, for 2 year contract plans ... $200 for an iPad, and I think you would see a huge rush of users willing to jump.
That said, very interested in all the details of the new iphone ... from a feature perspective. HD video and 5MP camera would be awesome ... just hope they can do something to fix the blurry pictures issue that currently plagues the iphone. Is a 1 or 2 second delay between the time you hit the button to the time the picture is actually captured, so you dont get the shot you really want, and many times it means that my kid is already moving into another position or running away, so its just blurry. 5/17/2010 7:54:50 AM |

^^yea, without a flash it's pretty hard to do much about the blurriness. although the lag that i seem to notice especially on the first picture take is pretty ridiculous. on my 3g sometimes it wouldn't even take a picture even though it did the sound and looked like it took one on the screen. i'd go into photos and the first pic i took just wouldn't be there.. 5/17/2010 11:10:59 AM |

Just be aware of the issues that come with activation. It's not the same as an iPod. You wll either have to activate it on a legit AT&T account(which it likely already is obviously) and then pull the sim card, or jailbreak and hacktivate it. But if you want to wipe it before giving it to them, or if they ever decide to wipe/restore it you will have issues with activation.5/23/2010 6:17:26 PM |

I think part of androids success is because the iPhone isn't available on all networks and its the closest thing to an iPhone.

oh absolutely. if i could have somehow just magically switched even my aging iPhone 3G to the VZW network, I would rather have done that then buy a new phone and activate new service (which is definitely more expensive than my previous plan). 5/24/2010 5:20:01 PM |

I mean neither Android or iPhone are in any sort of threat of losing market share. But as for US markets, iPhone on other networks will give the iPhone a huge leg up.
^^^I was hoping to read something on that link about why using an Android is awesome except all I read was bitching about AT&T and gripe with Apple. Thats not really giving me any information on why I would want to switch to Android, it was more so why I would not want to use an iPhone on AT&T's network lol.

I don't see what difference it makes whether it's Apple or AT&T blocking it, you can't tether on an iPhone (without jailbreaking). You would have a point if the iPhone was available on some other carrier that allows tethering.
You want to try and disassociate problems with AT&T with problems with the iPhone but until they are offered on other carriers problems with AT&T are problems with the iPhone.5/24/2010 6:05:48 PM |

The rest of the world can tether on an iPhone. Jailbreaking is as easy as updating your iPhone. So yes, you can say tethering is a feature.
As for problems with AT&T. Thats really not an advantage or disadvantage simply because carrier coverage and service quality differs on where and how you use your phone. So while AT&T works perfectly fine for me it might not be the case for someone else and vis versa.

Yes, I tether on a non-jailbroken iPhone all the time and don't run any custom carrier profile
I use an app called NetShare that was in the app store for about 24 hours before Apple pulled it, I just start it up, connect to the ad-hoc wifi network and have instant tethering5/24/2010 9:35:13 PM |

really wish i had gotten a hold of that one in time..
the only reason i jailbreak is for tethering and sbsettings..which is really a pretty pathetic reason to have to
last time i tried changing the carrier file it totally screwed my visual voicemail which i didnt realize for weeks after not getting any voicemails
is that still the case or is there a better workaround now? 5/24/2010 9:42:55 PM |

I'm really not in the mood to argue semantics. If you want to backtrack and claim that's what you mean all along, then have at it. Doesn't change the fact that your original statement wasn't correct. 5/24/2010 10:35:28 PM |

I don't know what original statement you are reading but...

The part you're not reading is in bold.
Now when you combine the part in italics and the part in bold...it says You can't tether without a jailbreak. OR in other words. You can't tether without jailbreaking the device. OR you can't tether unless you jailbreak. Take your pick 5/24/2010 11:59:27 PM |
