Did the flush guy have anything on the turn? If he had a pair or something with the flush draw there's not much you can do, but otherwise a hard bet on the turn usually will drive out anyone hoping to catch a runner-runner flush.

I was in reno on the way back from my trip to tahoe. Played 4/8 hold'em at the hilton casino, Which is probably the nicest casino in Reno if any of you ever go. I played from 9pm till 8am. Never got up unless it was to piss.... I drank a lot of Fat Tire

1) Bought in for $10, with $.25 and $.50 blinds.

2) Second hand got pocket Kings and was able to nearly triple up with them.

3) In the next 6 hands I lost everything.

4) I quit.

So about 5 minutes after I sit down at a 1/2 NL table at the Tropicana in AC, this happens.

The Players:

The Kid - He looked college aged, started the hand with about $200 in front of him

Cowboy - Middle-aged guy who wore a cowboy hat, he started the hand with $300. He had just sat down at the table(I think this was his first hand), and he asked if this was 4/8 limit right before he got dealt any cards. We told him no, and I think most people thought he was joking - we'd soon find out that he is just really stupid.

Asshole - Old guy who started with over 500 in front of him. I hadn't been at the table very long, but it was obvious the rest of the table hated him.

The hand:

The Kid raises it to 20 preflop in early position. Cowboy calls right next to him, some other guy calls in middle position, and Asshole calls on the button.

The flop is J 8 4, two diamonds. There is now about 80 in the pot, The Kid bets 60 at it. Cowboy and Asshole call, the other guy folds.

The turn is a 2, not a diamond. The Kid goes all-in for about 120, the Cowboy goes all-in right behind him. The dealer first counts down The Kid's money correctly, then counts Cowboy's chips. It is a little unclear what amount she arrives at, there is a lot of table talk. I am sitting right next to Asshole and I hear him say "$91?" to her at one point. He ends up calling The Kid's all-in of ~120 first then putting 91 into the side pot between him and Cowboy, the dealer did not count it.

The river is a 10 of hearts. The Kid turns over QQ, Cowboy turns over J2 offsuit, and Asshole shows A7 of diamonds. So Cowboy has won the pot with two pair. The Kid throws his cards into the muck and walks away in disgust, Asshole throws his missed flush away as well.

Then the dealer goes to push the money to cowboy when some other player notices that Asshole hadn't properly matched Cowboy's all-in. Apperently the other player and Asshole have had words in a previous hand, and the other player demands that Asshole put in the extra ~25 that he owed. Asshole claims that the dealer told him it was only 91, and that's all he was going to put in.

The dealer calls the floor. The dealer claims she told him to put in the correct amount for the side pot which was 118, Asshole claims that she told him to put in 91 and he's not putting in any more. The first floor guy doesnt know what to do, so he calls the head floor guy.

The head floor guy rules that Asshole putting 91 into the pot was not legal action and therefore they had to back the hand up to that point and fix it. So the dealer puts the 10 of hearts back into the deck and shuffles it. They tell the floor guy that both losing hands were already thrown in the muck, but since the rest of the table can confirm the cards they fetch The Kid's QQ and Asshole's A7 of diamonds out of the muck. They then ask Asshole if he wants to call Cowboy's all-in or not, he says yes. So he puts the extra 27 that he owed into the pot and the dealer gets ready to burn and turn. The Kid has already walked away from the table at this point, so one of his friends goes running after him to tell him he still had a chance at the main pot in case the board pairs or a Q comes up.

The new river ends up being a 6 of diamonds. Asshole now wins the pot which was worth over $800.

^^ Cowboy ended up being a total maniac. He dropped $1400 at that table in about an hour. At one point he sucked out on some guy twice in a row and ended up with over $1000 in front of him. And he started raising somewhere between $50 and $100 preflop every hand until he lost it all.

So yeah, at first I felt really bad for him getting screwed out of that pot, but he would have just lost it all anyways so who cares.

car dealers game, 40 dollar buy-in, cash game, rebuy under 10. Blinds are .50/1.00 Everyone plays pretty loose. Last hand of the night.

I get dealt J-10 offsuit. Big blind to my right, I raise it to 3, I get 6 callers out of 8 playing.

Flop comes 7 8 9, two clubs. I go all-in for 159 dollars. My dad to my left calls for 70, 3 people fold, then cookie calls for 29. We flip, my dad's got trip 9's, cookie has 8 6. Alex (who folded) shows he folded 7 8.

No flush draws I figure I'm good. I figure with only 4 outs for my dad, I'm in great shape.

Turn comes Ace of spades,

and then the damn river,

the last 9, giving my dad quads.

Ummmmmm not correct. Your dad has the 4 outs you were thinking of, plus 3 more from whatever card hits on the turn (as it turns out, it was an ace). So you're really looking at 7 outs out of roughly 40 "unshown cards" remaining, so he is still almost 20% to win the hand.

playing party poker. this guy's been going all in all night on any pocket pair. i get AA and take him all in for 95 bucks each. I hit an ace on the flop..... 2 9's come. so i got a full house aces high. of course he has pocket 9's and beats me with 4 of a kind. couldn't believe it.

plus any of the cards on the board could hit (7,8,A) to pair the board and give him a full house

yeah I forgot the ace, but I knew a 7 and 2 8's were dead already. Either way, it was upsetting, especially since I'd covered his buy-in.

^hahaha, its true that party poker has a LOT of people who chase flush and straight draws to the river, but party is certainly not cheating. These people are generally playing horribly and you should be able to fleece them for cash. If you want to try other sites go ahead but for the most part suckouts happen all the time, you just have to make sure you don't lose a ton when they catch and make them pay to chase all the time.

Ok, so we know people play on party poker alot as well as free online, blah blah blah. What about real high stakes games. Atlantic City/Las Vegas Style. I recently went to AC and put down 100 dollars, walked about 5 hours later with 500 dollars. Lots of good hands, lots of bad hands, but I found the "calling station" and took him for atleast 300 of what he had made. Party Poker is nice, but I hate playing it sometimes b/c there are "stupid" people playing that would otherwise fold to a bet I make if it were a live game. Any other feeling on lose play for internet poker?

More balls to come at them with larger than normal bets when you know you have the cards but really don't want them to be able to fish.

More patience to sit there for a little while to get a feel for those that are nearly impossible to play against.

rigged was the wrong term. However, I do think PP has some problems with their random generator not being so "random". I am an incredibly patient player, but some of shit I see on PP is friggin ridiculus

i agree its not high stakes in las vagas/ac terms, but we are college peolpe here, putting down 100 dollars is high stakes in terms of our money. Give me a break if you are arguing about wording.

When you're talking about high stakes in poker, "high stakes" doesn't change based on what demographic you fall into.

High stakes is high stakes, and 100 bucks ain't it.
