It takes time to grow a fucking a tree. You pay the high cost so you can plant a tree in your yard and not have to wait for it to grow. There is also the fact that you don't just drop seeds into a ground and wait for the tree to grow....but I'm sure that's exactly the picture you had in your head when you were thinking about this. You were probably envisioning Johnny Fucking Appleseed running around in the forest dropping appleseeds all over the ground with pretty apple trees sprouting up behind him.
