THE GREATEST & FUNNEST FORD EVER MADE?

A lot of auto journos who have driven this are singing its praises. I don't think there is anything else like that is in production or ever has been. It is a muscle car for off-roading, basically.

Camouflaged testing by Ford: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Xfrbk3jovE <---- I would give anything to get a chance to do that!
In production form, driven by MT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWzwAp72_Oc

^^uh, tacoma prerunner? dodge power wagon? just because this thing has hit to radar of magazine masturbators like you doesn't mean it's special. special edition factory trucks dedicated to desert running/off road performance aren't anything new. that's not to mention all the other "lesser" packages offered in recent years like gm's z71 and zr2, dodge's "off road", ford's fx4, toyota's trd, etc...

Quote :

HAHA, that's hilarious. really? with a stock naturally aspirated 5.4 and 35" tires? please, leave the muscle truck comments to vehicles that deserve them like the lightning or srt10.

not that I care to get in this but the need to just bring back the lightening. there is still nothing in its class that competes with it. i guess its a cool idea but i dont see the market leaning towads this type of truck.

i said musclecar for OFF-ROADING you motherufucking faggot.

you are not gonna go do OFF-ROADING, definitely not to any appreciable degree, in the SRT-10. yeah, hence the 35" tires, you know, for OFF-ROADING, which can't be done with ultra low profile tyres.

and it IS special. all the trucks you mentioned don't have more than half the performance of the Raptor. and when the 400 hp model comes out at the end of the year, the trucks you mentioned will be nothing in front of it.

fuck off.

^ agreed. i always loved it and was a fan of it, as i was of the GMC Typhoon (SUV) and GMC Syclone (truck) from the early 90s. the Syclone did 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. i still remember that figure, because no production truck has beaten that figure ever. even the Typhoon did 0-60 in the low 5s, which still compares favorably with todays super SUVs.

^^^you are clueless as fuck. exactly what is the extent of your experience with off road vehicles?? riding camels across the desert you live in doesn't count. if you think the power wagon (better power, full lockers, stronger drivetrain, winch) or the tacoma pre runner (good power, MUCH less weight, similar suspension) aren't on the same level or very close you're smoking crack. the other things i mentioned are well behind, but the point was that factory packages focused at off road use aren't anything new.

~320hp in a truck that weight with tires that size is NOT the definition of performance. in fact, performance shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence. the raptor isn't muscle anything, period. it simply handles high speed off road situations a little better than most "stock" trucks and it looks cool. too bad it's too much of a fucking pig to really capitalize on the cool upgrades (suspension, track width, etc.). ford really did the truck an injustice putting that engine in it. the 6.2 v8 will help, but it's still not going to be anything to write home about. that truck needs 450-500hp to really be impressive. it's not like ford doesn't have the resources for such a beast (gt500??).

oh, and i never said anything about the srt10 or lightning being useful for off roading you non reading moron. i said they are about the only modern production trucks worthy of having the term "muscle" thrown around when describing them.

well, there's at least a glimmer of intelligence. those trucks were/are bad bitches, especially to have been produced more than a decade ago.

bbr stop being a douche... you know the pre-runner addition taco is not in the same ball park as that truck... just compare their suspension travels and if they made a taco 7" wider that would be fucking sweet too.

that is a power wagon... fuck a pos 5.7 liter piece of mopar trash with lockers.

^^look, we all know you consider the magazines/internet the gospel just like OEP... you can have your 2 cents back.

in the realm of desert/sand driving, which is what both the raptor and taco pre runner are/were aimed at, they are most certainly comparable. big fucking deal if the raptor has more travel, that's not the determination of what the better truck is. the taco also doesn't NEED to be 7 inches wider because it sits lower and weighs a lot less. i never said the taco would exceed or even equal the raptor's performance, but it's definitely "in the same ball park". as far as the power wagon, the ONLY thing the raptor would best it at is high speed desert/sand stuff. the power wagon would pwn most anywhere else.

all of that is mostly irrelevant, though. my whole point is/was that the raptor is not some revolutionary new concept and it's not the end all be all of factory produced off road oriented trucks as OEP stated. is it more capable that most? definitely. is it cool that a manufacturer is making something like it? of course. drool over it all you want, but lets keep things in perspective. it's the nissan gt-r of american trucks.

^^yeah, pretty much. there's a selection to lock it in both hi range and low range, or you can run it open in either. mile marker makes a kit to convert them to part time. not sure why anyone would waste any money on one though, they're fairly weak and low range sucks. plus, on dodges at least, you're still left with no front hubs. the money for a conversion would be much better spent on a 205 or even a 208. they're of course very useful as range boxes on doublers too since that eliminates the bad stuff.
