Landcruisers: Cooler than Land Rovers

But that is a pretty sweet rig.

Well, in black it might be a bit more subtle, but its still a fucking bright yellow land rover. Im sure I will paint it soon enough, but for now I am getting it ready to wheel, the color of the snorkle is not even on the radar.

Karoush 3 more lights go on the front bumper, and there is one on the back of the rack not hooked up yet. And maybe more in the future.

^yeah, i gotta agree. i love cruisers. i kinda miss my fj62 sometimes, but it lives on with pwnt cruising around in the florida keys. colter has a super bad ass fj80. Tuite has a nice one as well.

the tdi rover turned out nice, looks good. get those wheels done and it'll be just right. that's one of the few vehicles i've ever seen that aftermarket flares look decent on.

duke, to me it's not so much the weak points of the rovers, it's the cost of upgrading them. by the time you get decent shafts, lockers, etc. in one you've spent quite a bit more than what a toy or jeep would take. not to mention general maintinance things. some of it is just as reasonable as anything else, but some of it is downright asinine comparatively speaking. the cheap purchase price can offset some of that though, and if you happen to get a good one then no worries. i still maintain that you might be better served with something else knowing how our right feet work. joel can be hard on stuff, but he's also pretty meticulous in taking care of his stuff and doesn't outright beat on things for the mostpart.

Definitely gonna be fine tuning it some more, cruising temps are good but goosing it gets hot in a hurry. 1200 is way too easy.

^^^ yeah, part of me wants to go with an FJ-40 or maybe an early Bronco, or maybe just a $1000 beater of some sort (but then I won't want spend money to lift it, lock the diffs, mount good tires, etc)

it all depends...with a boat, a jet ski, and a motorcycle, can I justify both a car and a truck when I'll likely only be home for 9-10 months before deploying again? If so, how much can I talk myself into spending, and do I make the truck the DD (Discovery, etc) and get a track toy for a car, or do I get a nice but modestly priced sports car to DD (thinking 350z...can be found cheap, and could still be used to pick up my daughter and carry stuff for a 1-2 week visit) and a pure toy as an offroad/boat towing machine (FJ40, Bronco, or beater). That last option might be the way to go...the expensive machine in the stable would be the sports car, and that's the one that I'd sell when I deploy next time (if I get an FJ or something, I expect to keep it for a long time. A 350z would be a stopgap solution until I get more track experience and some time where I won't be deploying).

I feel like I'm thinking out loud about this stuff in about a half dozen different garage threads. I don't know...I change my mind twice a week, I think.

Listen up newbie, I didnt put the snorkel on it. On the other hand YOU did:

- install your spare on the roof rack
- take the doors off a unibody
- offer to pay me $35 for some nasty 55w hellas then snub your nose at some 130w lamps I only wanted $40 for

You shouldnt be talking shit.

Ok jackass, if you'd read correctly, I had 2 passengers and carried a shitload of camping gear for my buddies who were on fourwheelers. I actually NEEDED the extra space that the roofrack provided me. It's one thing for all these gayass mall crawlers to have a roofrack and spare tire up there, but I dont see the problem if you're actually going to put it to good use. Hence, why I think a snorkel is GAY AS AIDS if you're not going to use it. However, I do understand that if you bought it with it on there, there's not a whole lot you can do about it. No worries

Yes, I took the doors off a unibody. I also didnt plan on doing anything stupid enough to endanger my 2 passengers or the jeep on its first outting.

As for lighting, I didnt want to pay $40 for something and then another $10 for a replacement glass, and then have to paint the housings when I can get a brand spanking new set for ~$70. To each his own.

I only mentioned the snorkel thing because my friend put one on his disco, and his will NEVER go offroad, much less an ounce of mud. Yes, he's gay as aids, and I remind him of that every time I see his gay-ass disco.

I'm definitely not hating on Discos or Land Rovers in general, just think it's retarded when people do that shit and will never use it.

Same rack is on my truck, but there is lights and an overrider bar bolted to mine. And stupid ass chicken coop floor.

The powdercoat is peeling on mine though. I know for a fact with a good sized sandblaster, a big ass compressor, and unlimited sand it takes three 8 hour days to sandblast one of these racks. I wonder if there is somewhere local where I can take it to get acid dipped to have it all stripped off?

Well my next Rover project is about to begin! A complete frame off restoration- on a low mileage 1997 Defender 90, with some very sweet suspension and driveline mods to finish it off.

I suppose I would say I am 100% halfway through now. Bare frame along with several other parts sitting here waiting to be stripped and galvanized, an engine block on a stand, and two axles propped on jackstands are all thats left in the garage of what was a running and driving D90 six weeks ago.

It is parked at the house cause my brother's new daily is a granny grey G35 sedan

its making some nasty popping noises on turns, i dont think whatever outer matt put in there is right, but as long as it has gas in it I am using it around town.
