I thought it was fairly clear that Ben used the "list" to get his spinal surgeon to the Others' camp. Don't ask me what the rest of them are for, but it's pretty clear why Jack was needed.

last night, i told someone that some of the others were going to try and kill sawyer. they would use sawyer as leverage over kate, and use kate to convince jack to the the operation. Jack agrees after a while but had his own tricks up his sleeves using Ben's life to free Kate and Sawyer.

first of all, for everyone that keeps saying "he wasnt even on ______'s list" as someone already said, i'm almost positive he said Jacob's.

second, i'd say that is pretty important, shows that Ben really isnt the one in charge, Jacob is even more high up. and maybe this is the person that has been referred to a number of times in previous episodes by Tom and Ben (when Ben was captured he said something along the lines of "it doesnt matter, he'll kill me when he finds out")
