lol

you wouldn't though after 4 years of thinking this was our year and then we didn't quite get it and went to the peach bowl again; it would be seen as a failure rather than a success

I see what you mean...kinda like when we went to the Tangerine Bowl after the Gator bowl....

I knew when our players called out the NC at the Gator bowl that something bad was afoot.

according to the BC boards, it looks like we are def. getting tom o'brien

someone on there stated that they just heard from a local radio station in arizona that he was off the board b/c he was coming here.

also, this comes from the BC site:

"Coworker who's a good friend of mine played DB for NC State under Amato....he says TOB is a done deal "

haha my grandpas was a DE for State and he thinks we need to shut down football and focus on academics.

he has just as much credibility on that being true as any other former players cousins ex wife's nephew who once roomed with TA.

You wont know who we looked at, who we offered, who all we interviewed and who all we even said no to.

thats how this firm works, thats how he runs things and thats how it will stay...its all a big mystery unless u are one of the few on the inside or know Murphy and convince him to spew it...which hasnt happened in a few weeks...he's pretty tight lipped these days/..

Anyone interested should go look at the BC boards; they must know something we don't because seriously every single one of their threads is about Tom O'Brien coming here

I really don't want him as our next head coach; if this is true I seriously hate Lee Fowler

James on statefans just started a thread stating that the scout publisher for BC has said that Fowler and O'Brien are merely working out contract details, and it is a done deal....

we shall see, i really don't know much about the guy, but seems like the hire would make a much needed media splash, considering we are the red-headed stepchild of the off season coaching searches.....

am i missing something? TOB had BC ranked all season in our own conference, with BC resources. clearly not everyone's first choice, but why is everyone so against him?

^i am against him b/c i see a celing with him that is what it was at BC; which is 7 to 9 wins a year.

i know that sounds awesome right now, but our goal is an ACC championship. I don't think he can get us there. Gator Bowl would be sweet right now, but after four straight gator bowls we would be hating him b/c we will always be "that close".

I just think that Johnson provides so much more upside; the dude has won BIG whereever he has gone and done it fast as well.

i'm telling you there is a reason that not one fan wants him to stay; he can't get them to the next level

I'd rather have PJ, but O'Brien is a very solid hire.

I can't get too excited about him, but he's a huge step up.

Still want PJ

BC wants PJ instead of O'Brien. I want to grab PJ before they can, because I think he has a greater upside, having been so good at a much more restrictive school.

so we chase him out in 6 years, i still don't see the problem =P

really though, maybe the cap has more to do w/ boston college and less to do w/ TOB, it's not basketball, football takes money.

fair point, but I would say that if there was ever a year that they were going to win the ACC, then this would have been it. Best QB in the ACC, all of the traditional powers way down this year, and they still couldn't get it done. They simply lose too many close games, and that sounds all too familiar to me.

and this is seriously true. if this hire of o'brien is true is say fowler has to go. not b/c it is that bad of a hire, but i mean it does look kinda bad that we are taking a divisional coach from them. even if they want him gone, that won't be the national perception.

The only reason I think his ceiling might be higher here (Thinking out loud here)

1) We have better facilities
2) We have a better gameday atmosphere... by eleventy-fold
3) He will get better bowls here

About #3... how many times has BC had 10 win seasons and gone to the muffler bowl? Does this hurt his recruiting not getting the 'big bowl' exposure? BC fans are horrible at traveling and they get skipped over. That won't happen at State... Us, Clemson, and FSU are 3 schools notorious for bringing fans to games

He's a safer hire than PJ. He's a very very good coach who is a proven winner with much less resources. I don't think he has the upside of PJ, though.

I'm happy with it only if PJ was asking for a ridiculous amt. of money or said he wasn't interested

^^^fair points

but this looks all too freaking familiar to me: stats from his tenure at BC:

Quote :
"TOB All-Time Versus Temple, Rutgers, UConn, I-AA Schools, and any non-BCS program other than BYU or Boise State:
38 Wins
5 Losses

TOB All-Time Versus All Other Schools:
37 Wins
39 Losses

Tom O'Brien all-time against the AP Top 25:
7 wins
21 losses

Tom O'Brien all-time against teams that finished the season in the AP Top 25:
4 wins
22 losses

Tom O'Brien all-time against Miami, Virginia Tech, and Florida State:
3 win
15 losses

TOB All-Time Conference Titles (9 years at BC):
0"

" Titans' Chow pulls out of NC State search
ESPN.com news services

A week after saying he hadn't even been contacted about the North Carolina State coaching vacancy, Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow has withdrawn his name from consideration for the job, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Wednesday.

Chow was the Wolfpack's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2000, fired coach Chuck Amato's first season at his alma mater, but left to join the staff at Southern California.

Chow and University of Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe were rumored to be on the Wolfpack's coaching wish list. Sources told ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach on Tuesday that NC State was focusing its search on Navy coach Paul Johnson.

NC State athletic director Lee Fowler has said he will not comment on the search until it is complete.

Amato was fired Nov. 26, one day after his team lost its seventh straight game to end the season. The former NC State linebacker was 49-37 and led the Wolfpack to five bowl games in seven seasons but was just 25-31 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and never finished higher than fourth.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report."
