yeah, i guess maybe the real "correction" will be incarnated as volatility.

in addition to the indices and most actives, i also check up on the etf action as a proxy for which sectors are doing what:

this is the largest margin trade i've ever made.

i got in at 484.60 after hours (and as soon as the trade went through i got a $40 margin call) , and premarket is 492 right now.

i never do stuff like this...

I still can't justifiably get into the GOOG hype.

Analysts expected $2.91 and they delivered $3.18. That’s beating expectations by 9%, about what they've been doing every quarter.

Revenues met expectations.

In terms of growth, a much more important factor, GOOG is slowing down. The law of big numbers has caught up with them.
Taking Yahoo’s search $ isn’t going to keep them above 50% growth. They are great at releasing new services, but they need to try something radical like new services that generate revenue

i've been in and out of GOOG since the double digits. i held it for a while and did ok. i'm just squeezing a few more points out of it via a few trades. i'm certainly not going to sit on this.

i also remember i made a thread about just before its IPO, and people ate my lunch about how $80 was too high a price.

there's some "hype" stocks i have an aversion too as well. many people don't think so, but AAPL is one of them. i've had many a temptation to own it, but have stayed out of it. i might get in for the i-phone launch and bail before numbers hit the street.

i think its partly because i don't even like ipods. i look at it and think, "hey that's cute, and it would be nice if i was a 13 year old girl but i'd rather have something with more than 3 buttons...someone please point me to the sony or panasonic mp3 player" and i'm probably never going to own and i-phone -- i'm too hooked on my crackberry and i don't want to carry 2 phones.

...back to GOOG: i go to yahoo and i see all this on the left column

and i think to myself, whether by adding on all of those elements, or by outright acquiring yahoo, google will be offering all of the above in the near future.

so i'm compelled to think the organic growth story is no where close to being over.

its been a fun ride. its may be prudent to spend some time between now and Monday to take some gains (i'm not saying bail and run) and prepare for some down sessions. it may be a good idea to accumulate cash and do research so that we're well positioned for the second half of the year.

...just sold half of my LEAP

i'm not saying i won't blow the whole pile of money on buys if i see a deal on something i want, but i'm being a lot less aggressive with buying right now.

7 days? maybe. after earnings season is over/early may? likely.

in any case, better to tak some profits too early than to chase momentum and end up with a loss.

I have some REED.OB its a soda company that makes Virgils Rootbeer and Reeds ginger products. It has double the purchase price and is projected to close 600% up. I will be hoping they know what they are doing with those projections.

^ After a brief overview of this company, a few things catch my eye:

1) ROE = -92.77% (would be OK if a startup but they've been around since 1987)
2) Mom & Pop run the company, pops pays himself 150K and the wife gets 12K, well that's just awesome
3) Who the hell buys all those drinks (raspberry ginger brew? ginger ice cream?)? Are these big in China (if so, then maybe I'd have to look into the company more)

On a side note, let's hope Texas Instruments (TXN) has a positive earnings announcement today...

^^^ They have been around but only recently began trading. My brother is the operational Manager for the company so that was my initial interest in the investment. The products are very big in the Asian culture, and the rootbeer/cream soda sell well on the west coast. They are a little slow in growing but one can hope for the best.

let it be noted that the market was down today (.23%)...so i give myself a B- for calling the downtick...and Texas Instruments beat expectations, so we'll be alright

Dear Mr. Joshua,

Please keep track of your options so that you don't end up with naked calls on USU at $17.50 when the stock is at ~$20.50.

Thanks,

for the IBM question...

The board of IBM authorised 15 bln usd for additional share repurchases and approved a 33 pct increase in its quarterly cash dividend.

"
With respect to today's announcement, IBM said its board approved a 33% increase in the quarterly cash dividend to $0.40 per common share and authorized an additional $15 billion for stock repurchases. The latter is on top of the $1.4 billion that remains under a prior plan.

The added carrot for investors is that IBM noted it is apt to carry out a "substantial portion" of the share repurchases in the next several months. As a result, it anticipates 2007 EPS growth could be 12% to 14%, excluding a gain from the sale of its printer business, which is one to three points more than its previous estimate.
