haha
you say teammates like it means something
Jr didn't sign up to drive with Jeff and Jimmy
he signed up to get the best possible ride he can
he's taking advantage of Hendrick's resources and Hendrick's taking advantage of the Earnhardt name
its a win-win for both of them
Jeff and Jimmie fans won't know what hit them within the next 2 years 6/15/2007 10:23:04 PM |

I guess we'll just have to see about that, won't we?
BTW, Childress just called off their building of a garage for Jr. thet's been in the worls for a while...just waiting for the word. He's been trying to get Jr. for the past year and a half, but Jr. finally made his decision. 6/15/2007 11:12:39 PM |

One comment was about Dale Jr.'s 2008 sponsor: Dave Despain: (There's) a great picture on the Internet. Somebody has already designed the paint job for the car. How quickly these things happen (with) the magic of the computer. There is your #5 Dale Jr. Budweiser car, all laid out for next year. Photoshop indeed. Darrell Waltrip: That can't be true because I don't think it's going to be Budweiser. Dave Despain: That was one of my questions. You don't think it will be Budweiser. Do you know who it will be? We've heard a shoe deal. We've heard a credit card deal from one of your buddies. What's it going to be? Darrell Waltrip: Yeah, wrong. It'll probably still be something you could drink. That would my guess. Dave Despain: "Something you could drink," he said, hinting. Darrell Waltrip: And it won't be in a red can" |

so NASCAR allows Sprint to change their sponsorship name from Nextel to Sprint.. same company mind you.. but Cingular can't change their name to AT&T?? 6/20/2007 7:31:24 PM |
DaBird All American 7551 Posts user info edit post |
big difference there...sprint/nextel pay billions to be the primary sponsor and to have all the rights therein. cingular/at&t are just with one owner.
nascar has to protect the brand of its lead sponsor. thats how they get the big money. when it was the winston cup, how many camel or marlboro sponsorships did you see zoomin around?
that said..i was wrong about Jr and Wal-Mart...its Sony - http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/racing/06/22/earnhardt.sony.ap/index.html 6/22/2007 8:31:05 AM |

Quote : | " SONOMA, Calif. -- Nextel Cup Series points leader Jeff Gordon and defending series champion Jimmie Johnson, both of the Hendrick Motorsports stable, have failed inspection at Infineon Raceway.
The cars of neither Gordon, the defending race champion, nor Johnson will be allowed to practice or qualify Friday.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said both cars "failed the initial inspection ... as a result of body modifications found to be outside NASCAR tolerances. The front fender [of both cars] was modified outside of NASCAR regulations. They did not meet the C2 template inspection."
According to Poston, Hendrick Motorsports' No. 5 and No. 25 cars, for Kyle Busch and Casey Mears, passed inspections.
Poston added, "both teams have an opportunity to repair and resubmit their cars" for inspection up to the start of practice Saturday. "Assuming they pass inspection, they can practice [Saturday] and start at the rear of the field [Sunday]," he said.
"It's important to know this is a Car of Tomorrow penalty," Poston said of the short-term severity of the sanction. "The inspection process and NASCAR's response to Car of Tomorrow violations are going to be more severe.
"We're going to keep this car in check. It's important to know all cars in the field are starting out equal and have the ability to win the race."
Poston said both teams' crew chiefs, Steve Letarte on the No. 24 and Chad Knaus on the No. 48, would be allowed to supervise the repairs, and at this point, NASCAR had no plans to immediately confiscate the cars.
The decision on further penalties would be made next week, Poston said." |

No drivers sign up to drive with certain drivers! It's all about the best sponsor, car, and PR. Good teammates just make it that much better!

Well, unless I missed something the only options are 5 or 25. And I don't foresee him using the 25 since that was Ricky's car. So, since DEI won't turn over the 8...I guess the #5 it is! which is good because if DEI did turn over the 8, Hendrick would have to let either the 5 or 25 go. So, I guess that really is the best option. 7/11/2007 3:39:17 PM |
Jeepin4x4 #Pack9 35774 Posts user info edit post |
the 8 would have changed too. Font, color, etc etc. It isn't gonna happen, it wasn't meant to be. I love jr, i do, but i wish people would begin to let this 8 and budweiser stuff go. Things change, shit happens. 7/11/2007 3:44:01 PM |
hershculez All American 8483 Posts user info edit post |
do you have to be a car owner to have rights to a number? DEI has rights to the 8 now. could dale Jr. himself "buy" the rights to the 8, kind of how athletes in other sports buy numbers from other guys. just something i thought of after bethaleigh's last comment] 7/11/2007 3:48:10 PM |
