youre license gets revoked for 30 days after you are charged with DWI no matter what...if the 30 day revocation period ends before you go to trial for the DWI (and effectively lose your license for a longer period of time) then you can get your license back until it is taken away in court

just kind of confusing b/c with a manslaughter charge it is a permanent revocation, not to familiar with the court system luckily.

well once again, some people are saying she passed away and then 2 people who commented on the wral.com article said:

The hospital wont release the information. I called yesterday and that is what they told me...when I told them I heard otherwise, she said she couldn't tell me more than that, but she could have a family member talk to me.

There was no speculation, and we all knew the pole fell on the car.

yeah it's sad she's in critical condition. I know what it's like to have close people to me almost die b/c they were driving drunk. but I'm not gonna start blaming the street lights/red light cameras/walls on the side of the road.

go back and look at the google earth/mapquest picture on page 12 of this thread. See the little concrete island that is literally in the middle of the road and is set up in a position that could easily be hit by a driver? yeah, thats the place where the camera supposedly was

Don't blame the camera or its position for this. As unfortunate as the fact is, fault rests with the driver for being drunk.

yeah the island that road engineers designed to be sloped and not have any dangerous impediments so that it would be safer during an accident or steering miscalculation. the one that the town of fayetteville erected a large steel pole in the middle of with no regard for safety.

The one that sober drivers have been avoiding for years?

Does it suck that this girl has died? Yes, for both her and her friend that was driving.

But don't blame the road or the pole, That pole could have very easily been a person or another car. Or that person could have wrecked on a million other things because she was driving drunk.

the fact is, the girl who was driving (you know, the person who is in control of the car) was under the influence. how many cars have passed by with sober people driving hit that same camera? exactly. you (along with others) are acting like everyone SWERVES around this pole and it's been dangerous for everyone.
we should run over someone and say "well they really shouldn't have been walking the streets at night!"
umm, no, you should just either 1. don't drink and drive or 2. keep your friggin eyes open.
I'm not saying "omg everyone got what they deserve"
I'm just saying that you're stupid if you're going to blame the pole, the same one that plenty of people pass by, for this accident.

OK so lets wait until the poles start killing sober drivers before we call for them to be re-designed or re-positioned........

No sense modifying a dangerous obstacle in the middle of the road when it is only killing the passengers of drunk drivers. We should definitely wait until some sober people or maybe a car full of kids where the mom is on a cell phone gets crushed by one. That will spur people in to action.

^ + ^^You two are fucking retarded.

My name is Amy Pegram and I was one of Emily's best friends..I don't need an alias, because unlike the majority of ya'll, I have nothing rude, ignorant, or uninformed to post. I never get on TWW since Freshman year, but heard about this post from a friend who informed me of just how out of hand it had gotten, but then decided maybe I shouldn't read it because of how upset it would make me. Well here I am. I just spent the last hour crying as I proceeded to read the 15 absolutely ridiculous pages of this post. It makes me absolutely sick to my stomach that so many heartless individuals come from my same alma mater. It is incredible the amount of bullshit ya'll have proceeded to fill 15 pages of threads with in a mere 36 hours. Emily has passed away.. I don't much care what WRAL says, I don't care what the news says...and I certainly don't give a fuck about what your older brother who's ex girlfriend's uncle's stepmom's daughter who used to like Brackman says. Emily is dead and it is horrible and tragic and senseless ..I find it absolutely appaling that many of your would have both the time and the audacity to get on here and make ignorant comments. Does everything have to be an argument? Do you really have so little tact that you don't censor yourselves better than this when someone's life hangs in the balance? Do you seriously feel the need in your heart to makes comments to the extent of someone DESERVING to be killed for one error in judgment..or maybe that her best friend DESERVES everything she is going through right now because of a bad decision? I must have forgotten how fucking perfect every one on this site is besides Emily May and Danielle Polumbo. You self-righteous souless pieces of shit. In response to some of the posts: I was with her at UHouse pool last week as she was "looking hot" and with her at Jax on Monday night for trivia. Just because you saw her from afar or tried to hit on her once and got shot down does not mean you KNOW her OR Danielle, so please keep your ignorant, rude, absurd comments to your fucking selves because all you are doing is causing deeper hurt for those of us that loved, and continue to love, the both of them. Or if you really knew Emily and miss her and have a HEARTFELT memory, make decent use of your computer time, and your Friday night, and for once...Be kind. Go join one of the memorials to her on facebook...go spend some quality time praying for their TRUE friends and family and all those affected..go think about what you can DO about drunk driving instead of your high and mighty mouthing-off with nothing behind it. Have a little couth in the future..this is someone's life, and many people have been affected by this TRAJEDY.. no one DESERVES it...no one is to BLAME. Grow up.

A word of advice.

Do not expect the users of this site to be understanding and supportive about anything. I'm sure if I dropped dead tonight there would be a ten page thread about how I eat too much fast food and deserved to die for it. Thats just how shitty people are on here.

I sincerely wish you and your friends strength to deal with this. It is very tragic and no one deserves to die in their mid 20's before even really living life. No one deserves to wear the guilt of losing a best friend in this manner. I will keep you and everyone else directly affected in my thoughts.

^being rude to others because they are rude doesn't solve anything, i understand you are upset but don't take people here seriously, you have to learn to turn the other cheek. people like that will get what they deserve in the end, so don't worry about it.

so is she alive or no?
if she is hope she gets quick soon, if not rip.

despite what some people may portray in this thread, i think there are a lot of people who are genuinely concerned about emily. i wasn't close to her by any means, but had a few classes with her and we swapped books and notes a couple of times...she was always very nice to me and i feel for all of those who were close to her.

my advice would be to either ignore certain posts in this thread, or disregard it altogether. emily's friends and family have my condolences though.

I do not believe that either one of them deserved this. Very few people deserve to die.

However, blame rests with the driver. If you step behind the wheel of a car, you are responsible for yourself, your passengers, and the safety of other on the road. When you drive drunk, your jeopardize every one's life and should be prepared to deal with the consequences.

Do I feel sorry for the family and friends of the girl who died? Absolutely.
Do I feel sorry for the driver because she lost a friend? Absolutely.
Do I feel sorry for the driver because she has to live with the guilt of doing this? no.

Am I or any of the users on this site perfect? No, but many of us, if not the majority, will never drive drunk.

Drunk driving is stupid and reckless and kills. Those who do it deserve to live with the guilt of their actions. I do not know all the details of the wreck..but who here honestly wants to argue that even if the driver was sober, it still would have happened? The driver is to blame. No one and nothing else is.

"actually, yes there is. There's plenty of chance she could come back from that."
a bit off topic, but i feel the need to clarify this misconception. Brain death testing occurs when a person has lost his/her neuro exam ie, no pupil reaction, no cough, no gag, no doll's eyes reaction, fails cold calorics etc. You have to wait 24 hours after the last dose of any narcotic given. You have to correct ANY and all potential metabolic or drug induced loss of neuro exam, such as diabetic coma, drug overdose, etc. an apnea test is done to prove that they cannot breathe on their own, and an arterial blood gas sample is taken to measure the blood CO2 level. Transcranial dopplar studies can be done to see if there is any blood flow in the brain. Finally an EEG can be done to see if there is any brain wave activity. 2 phycisians perform the exams and the exams are done 12 hours apart, one of the physicians must be a board certified attending neurologist. In NC once a person is declared brain dead the 2nd time, they must be extubated or removed from the ventilator within a certain number of hours, i am not sure but this window may be extended if someone is a donor candidate.

I dont mean to detract from the sympathy for Emily, but tragedies happen every day, and since i work in an ICU where there are many head traumas, and or people whose brains have herniated, i see a lot of people declared brain dead. I think that if God forbid this happens to a loved one of yours, you can at least be a little educated about neuro and be a little ahead in the ball game

Very accurate post in my opinion.... With that being said my prayers go out to both of them, I hope that even though the Driver is to blame she will find a way to deal with this. I personally think that after a long period of time when she feels she can talk about the subject that she could volunteer to go to high schools and speak on drunk driving. If nothing else, her well learned lesson and story may then help save a life.
