chembob, how often do the reactors on nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers need to be refueled? I assume this is not classified.

The earlier generation reactors usually had fuel enough for about 20 years, but the reactors produced today generally have about 30 years of fuel.

So, pretty much, by the time a vessel runs out of fuel, it is set to be decommissioned because it is obsolete (being replaced by a newer class).

Commodore is equivalent to today's Rear Admiral Lower Half.

In naval parlance, a commodore is the senior captain and commander of a squadron of ships. Since most "captains" of ships usually hold the rank of Commander (O-5), most "commodores" are Captains (O-6). To prevent confusion with the title and rank, they got rid of the rank (O-7).

I'm a goddamn Naval Officer now. It's gonna be a hard couple years, but it is worth it. Just working towards the day when all my loans are paid and my obligation to the Navy is finished. Then I am truly master of my own fate.
