We'll just use this thread for the daily games, too... makes sense.
Keep an eye on UMass-Memphis tonight.
Quote : | "A co-worker of mine who went to UCONN doesn't think they should be ranked No. 2 in the country right now. He thinks they should be Top 15 or maybe even Top 10, but he thinks they could end up being the second best team in the country further in the year. He mentioned something about them losing some players or recruits and unsure how Price's rehab with that torn ACL in the tournament last year may affect chemistry. He knows a lot more about them than I do, but even I think that they aren't the second best team in the nation. I think they are Top 10, perhaps even Top 5 b/c of Kemba Walker, but I think there are some teams that have less uncertainty and overall are better. Could they be good, of course, but I wouldn't put them No. 2 in my poll." |
And Brass, this is from a different thread, but I'll answer it here.
No, right now they aren't the #2 team in the country. Calhoun would tell you that as would the players. However, they get Stanley Robinson (a starter from the day he stepped on campus) and Ater Majok (the #14 player via Rivals in this years class) on December 14th. At that moment they move from, IMO a top 15 team, to a Top 2 team. They have everything a title contender needs. NBA talent all over the place, a dominant big man and an All American PG. They also now have a good degree of experience. People forget they replaced SIX players who were drafted in 2006 and the top EIGHT players on the team. They had NO upperclassman on the entire roster and the "leader" was a sophomore reserve (Jeff Adrien).
The only question is will playing in what most think to be the strongest conference single season in NCAA history take a major toll on each contender who makes it to the NCAAT? We'll see...

I just want the ACC to be one of the top conferences in the nation. If State actually does decent this year and ends up on the bubble then hopefully we can get in over some middle of the road Pac 10, Big 10, or Big XII that didn't have to play as difficult of a schedule as State did.
Florida should be good this year.

The SEC is bad enough to where Kensucky will get a bid even when they go a game or two over .500 OOC and 8-10 over in conference...
Bad loss potentially for the ACC if BCU loses to St. Johns. Granted both are bottom feeders but in the 16 team Big East, St. Johns is one of the bottom 3 IMO... But the ACC should be fine for 5-6 teams in the dance this year...
[Edited on November 18, 2008 at 8:59 PM. Reason : it would behoove the ACC for FSU to not lose to LaSalle as well (I think UConn plays LaSalle next).] 11/18/2008 8:56:01 PM |
