Turns out I had my series predictions backwards. Wings in 6, Pens in 5 as opposed to Pens in 6, Wings in 5. I grew up a Detroit fan (Major Canes fan now), and I liked the Penguins as well. So ultimately, I am honestly not sure who I want to win.

I guess this is the first Stanley Cup Finals between two "traditional" hockey teams since the 1998 Finals between Detroit and Washington.

1999 and 2000 had Dallas (moved from Minnesota to Dallas in 1993).
2001 had Colorado (moved from Quebec to Denver in 1995).
2002 and 2006 had Carolina (moved from Hartford to Raleigh in 1997).
2003 and 2007 had Anaheim (1993 expansion team).
2004 had Tampa Bay (1992 expansion team).

Be interesting to see if the ratings improve. You got Detroit which is arguably the top-sized fanbase in the country or at least close to the Rangers. Then you got Pittsburgh, which is a good-sized fanbase for a hockey team in its own right, and also has a great young star in Crosby.

For the record, I grew up a Penguins fan. Now I'm a hardcore Canes fan but for awhile I would go to their games against the Pens wearing my Pittsburgh jersey. Although I believe the Wings have the edge in the series, Pittsburgh has a team capable of pulling off an upset!

Well, I think the NHL is trying to make this a black and white issue. That is to say, you want it to be "goaltender interference" or not. Gary Bettman said the criteria for such calls would be "voluntary contact with the goaltender, whether the goaltender is in the crease or not, and regardless of what the outcome of the play is". In other words, if you TOUCH the goalie in any way, that counts as interference. Even if the goalie isn't hindered by the contact, it doesn't matter. The only exception to this is if it's clear that you were pushed into the goalie. Using this criteria, it's understandable that the Lidstrom goal was waved off. I don't like the call, and I bet it probably would have gone in even if Holmstrom hadn't stuck his stick out, but it was the right call.

The whole purpose of this criteria is to make the issue "clear cut". The point is, if you don't touch the goalie, you're not going to get called. If you do touch the goalie, you are. Otherwise, the call tonight would have generated a ton of controversy. It likely still will, but at least the referees can provide reasoning for their decision.
