Our tailgate for game 3 starts on Saturday. I am trying to park as close to the lawn party in case I can't get in. If anyone has a decent ticket price PM me. I have been to every game 3 so far. Hope to hear from someone. LETS GO CANES!

So we really need to win saturday night for two reasons.

1. I have tickets to this game!

2. Statistics of being down 3-0 in a series: "In the 797 best-of-7 MLB, NBA, and NHL series that were played from 1905 through 1999, 211 times took a 3-0 series lead. In theory, if the competing teams have equal chances of winning each game, then the probability of the trailing team winning four straight games is 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/16 or 6.25%. But in practice, only twice in these 211 series (0.95% -- well under 6.25%) has the trailing team rebounded to win four straight. Both rebounds occurred in the NHL: In the 1942 Stanley Cup Finals, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-3; in the 1975 Stanley Cup Quarterfinals, the Islanders defeated Pittsburgh 4-3."

so the good news is it's been done before in the NHL against Pittsburgh, the bad news it it pretty much never happens.

the only good thing that came out of last night may be more ticket availability and cheaper prices

Quote :
"The explanation from Carolina center Eric Staal(notes) as to why his younger brother, Jordan Staal(notes), was thrown out of the faceoff circle several times when they squared off in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final Monday was simple, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

"He's cheating, that's why," Staal said. "[The linesman] has got no choice. [Jordan] has got his stick in the air and he's turning his body. The linesmen know how important faceoffs are in the playoffs, and they're going to call it the right way. They did a good job of that in Game 1."

Jordan Staal offered an interesting — though not necessarily serious — explanation for that, once his question of "Is he calling me a cheater?" had been answered in the affirmative.

"What usually happens is ... well, [the linesmen] pick sides and kind of lean toward the older brother on faceoffs and kick me out," he said, smiling. "He cheats, too."

The brothers actually squared off on the first draw of the series, and Jordan controlled it cleanly. Not necessarily on merit, though, according to his brother.

"I blame it on the referee," Eric said. "He dropped it on their side of the red line and didn't really give me a chance."

I don't watch a lot of hockey, so I'll ask the people that do:

Was that goal by Malkin last night one of the best you'll see ?

Backhanded, near side, top shelf in that amount of space...I haven't seen many better

thats was absolutely one of the sickest goals ive ever seen, right up there next to Ovie's sliding over-the-head shot.

just disgusting.

they have so much talent it is ridiculous. we have got to be more agressive on the backcheck or this series will end in 4.

I was so pissed off about that goal, but at the same time I was amazed, it was a pretty nasty shot...Ward didn't stand a chance

Our PPs absolutely blew last night. They were outplaying us a man down.

Stunning the number of people jumping ship. No surprise that it's people that didn't even show up around here until a few weeks ago.

We're in a tough spot, but until you've lost a game at home there is never a reason to panic. Win Saturday and we're right back in it, and we are certainly capable of doing that.

I think we are definitely still in this, win both at home and head back tied. But if they don't pull it off and win the series I will still be proud of this team after what they've done this postseason already. The Canes are just an awesome team to be a fan of!

from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

Quote :
"But, while there undoubtedly are isolated incidents of incivility at the RBC Center, the most unsavory organized chant heard at most games is a brief "Cheaters Never Win" whenever a visiting player is penalized, and that hardly qualifies as overt hostility."

Canes forward Tuomo Ruutu is on the ice and taking part in the morning skate.

Ruutu missed Game 2 with an ankle injury. Given the mobility he's showing at the skate, it appears he may be able to play tonight in Game 3.

Ruutu was the first player off the ice at the skate, leaving with trainer Pete Friesen.
