New RUF CTR!
Quote : | "The new CTR certainly sounds impressive. At its core is a carbon fiber monocoque structure, which is a RUF job. Attached to the monocoque are steel crash structures front and rear. The lightweight chassis allows the finished car to have a dry weight of 2,640 pounds – what the more commonly understood curb weight will be isn't clear. Unlike the CTR3, RUF claims the '17 CTR will be a rear-engine layout.
That engine is a 3.6-liter Porsche-derived flat-six, twin-turbocharged and making 700 horsepower and 649 pound-feet of torque. It is rear-drive only and exclusively uses a six-speed manual transmission. Its performance is suitably impressive: It takes 3.5 seconds for the CTR to hit 62 mph, and 9 seconds to hit 125 mph. Its top speed is 225 mph. Handling is provided by double-wishbone control arms actuating pushrod shock absorbers. The front brakes are six-piston fixed calipers; the rear are four-piston units.
The interior has its priorities straight for a low-production special aimed at true believers. It's explicitly analog and minimalist, and also lightweight. There's a lot of Alcantara and carbon fiber for weight savings, RUF says, and analog dial-type gauges for a classic look." |
A 911 lover's dream.

I am surprised they designed a car from the ground up but didn't make their own unique body.
That does look amazing, however, and should have great performance.

I'm not convinced that it's a dual clutch sequential like PDK, though. I could be wrong, though.

theDuke866 All American 52838 Posts user info edit post |
Right, and it doesn't sound like a dual clutch to me.
It's possible that it's a sequential like a motorcycle transmission, where you still manually do everything...it's just not an H-pattern box.

Porsche pulling out of Le Mans prototype and into Formula E... This is probably the last GT3 8/24/2017 9:17:18 AM |
TKE-Teg All American 43409 Posts user info edit post |
That was news a few weeks ago. Still sucks.
I'm a bit puzzled why you would say that this is the last GT3. That assumption makes little sense. The Le Mans program had no connection to their street legal sports cars. Meanwhile sports car racing is still incredibly financially lucrative and successful for Porsche, i.e. their race versions of the 911, as well as the Clubsport version of the Cayman.
None of that is changing. 8/24/2017 9:33:16 AM |
smoothcrim Universal Magnetic! 18966 Posts user info edit post |
I don't think we're going to see any more meaningful R&D in their ICE track oriented cars. Their top end panamera is already a hybrid, the hypercar is a hybrid, and the base cars are turboed. Car companies don't do R&D for their street car and then trickle up the tech into their race cars. If the R&D of the top cars is electric and hybrid, where do you think the budget for advancing the track day special comes from? 8/24/2017 2:17:01 PM |
TKE-Teg All American 43409 Posts user info edit post |
That still doesn't spell "the end" of the GT3.
As long as the RSR is naturally aspirated, so will the GT3. The next gen 718 GT4 and 718 Spyder have also been confirmed to remain NA. Whenever the RSR switches to turbos (bound to happen at some point) then so will the GT3. Doesn't mean it'll just disappear.
As an aside, Porsche loves money and if they can continue to charge a premium for their naturally aspirated offerings then they can continue to build them well into the future.
They're already built in production numbers low enough for their CAFE fleet impact to be meaningless...and even this sort of discussion is hilarious given that they're now an SUV company more than anything else. 8/24/2017 2:43:50 PM |

^^ I hope you didn't just see that now, and know that it has been out for 6 months. But yeah, it is gorgeous.
I found this really interesting:
Porsche sold 1 million 911s in the last 54 years. Porsche sold 0.5 million Cayennes in the last 6 years.
Without the Cayenne, Porsche might have disappeared, or at least wouldn't be able to offer so many versions of the 911. 9/6/2017 2:12:59 AM |
