Shit, beat Carolina 3 years in a row. 5-7 with 17 injured players, including our best defensive player.
I'll take it. I'd say he did a pretty good job with the players we had.

Now just get a better kicking staff.

I hear the guy TOB was arguing with during the game was Petercuskie. Considering our ST unit was a disgrace, think it's possible he's on the outs?

Also possible it was two pissed off friends getting a little emotional, and Petercuskie is a main recruiting guy, so maybe not

TOB: (following touchdown). Kick ass! Too bad our momentum will be shot to hell as soon as we kick the ball off ... and they get the ball on the 40 yard line.

Petercuskie: Hey now.

TOB: What? We have the worst kickoff team I've ever seen. Ever. And I'm old as shit

Petercuskie: Fuck you

TOB: FUCK YOU

when obrien convincingly says this is his worst year with injuries/ depth issues, and he constantly harps that we 'aren't' a good foosball team.... somehow i have to think the 2 are connected.

especially after him saying today in post game interview "we could have been a great football team if not for the losses starting with nate irving and then the 2 in the secondary before the season even started"

Thanks for another great season Tom. Looking forward to building on it next year.

Though, I must admit not calling timeout at the end of the first half was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen and could have cost us the game. Play some Madden for god's sake and learn how to manage the clock. When time is running out and you have the ball at the 50, go ahead and burn a timeout. We don't get points for taking them into the locker room.

why cant we get a soccer player who has a leg to just boot it into the endzone (or at least PAST the 10 yard line), or somebody who can fucking punt. i do not understand how if your one job involves you kicking 4 or 5 times a game, and you practice all the time, and have coaches dedicated to making you better...i do not understand how you can be as fucking terrible as our punter.
if i was TOB i just would have shat on the ST coordinator's face

supposedly they had a kicker with a good leg lined up for this season as a walkon, but he got offered a scholly at a smaller school and took it.

A good kicker can be more important than an all american D lineman or D back

They have the ability to change the entire field position game

A good kicker would have allowed us to kick yesterday with 30 sec left rather than have to go for a 4th and 11. Obrien is lucky that decision didn't backfire - it easily could have.

Giving a team 30 seconds to go 40 yards on our defense isn't a good idea.

God I wish you would stop posting.

We were at the 30 fucking yard line. Nobody punts from the damn 30. How the hell was that a bad decision? Did you want him to try a almost 50-yard FG and risk it getting blocked?

[Edited on November 29, 2009 at 12:36 PM. Reason : It was 23 seconds and 70+ yards]

see my post:

i'm not sure if they had anyone lined up for punting but they were definitely working on the kicking. they were even prepared to move soccer games and fly him to games if thats what it took. its funny because there were a few games that our kicking was decent, thats when they had someone else practicing for the position, and as soon as he stopped practicing with the team the kicking got terrible again.

We were on their 27. That's a 44 yarder.

We should be able to be 50+% from that range. cjljldsajflkajsfjdfski has proven that he can make that range.

It was a call that two big UNC plays instead of an interception would have caused us to lose the game. TOB would have been the biggest goat in the world had Yates pulled out a big play (as he had twice previously).

40 yards is not much to cover against our secondary.

But, I guess I should stop posting - none of that makes sense. Blow me. We got lucky that our D actually did what it has not done much this year - make a clutch play.

And it's fucking pathetic that he would go for 4th and 11 rather than risk a fg for fear of block. That says a lot about our kicker as well.

Yeah field goals never get blocked that's just how we won the game.

The chances of them blocking a FG and returning it were better than them scoring...

long field goals like that are going to be low and easy to get a hand on too. but with the amount of almost interceptions they had i'm still not convinced that a pass was the best call.

Maybe with our 2005 defense. This team gave up 50 to duke. I wasn't pulling for the decision to backfire, but I would have been very interested to see yalls reaction had Yates had two big plays and Barth made a 52 yarder to win with 2 seconds to go.

But I am a retard - so I guess TOB deserves nothing but praise. Im sorry, but bad decisions that get lucky have to be addressed. Ive called with 7's against pocket aces and won - but it doesn't mean it was the right decision.

Being retarded for questioning our 5-7 coach? Sure, Im happy with the win. And don't make me bring Obama into this.

I was at the game and I thought it was a great call. TOB had a lot of options. I don't think punting it would have been a bad call either. Put Wilson in the shotgun and pooch it inside the 20. That would have run some time off the clock too. Or just run a sweep and take as much time off as you can.

The problem with kicking a FG is it could be blocked. Or, worse yet, we make it and then have to kick off.

going for it on that last fourth down was the right move. punting would have been stupid, a FG attempt was the next best, but distant option. However, on that play, I would have liked to see a few more receiver options. We went for the strike only... Baker or Bryan for a 12-20 yard pass as a back-up would have been nice, assuming they could have been more open than owens was.

If 50/50 kept his hands on that last pass, we'd have won by 8 and this would be a moot point

Who cares though, we won the game, thats all that matters

I was fine with the decision to go for it. If we convert the game is over, if we don't convert we're still in really good shape.

I would be okay with a pooch but given how bad our punting game has been I'm not sure this is the best idea.

I was definitely against the field goal option at the time. It could easily be blocked, missed, etc and making it doesn't end the game.

My idea at the time was to put Wilson in the shotgun and tell him to run around for twenty seconds, Benny-Hill style.

I mean, I know that it wasn't gonna happen, but it would have been funny.

That would be awesome. After the snap, have TB and wilson run all the way back to the endzone. Wilson jukes anyone that comes near and TB blocks. When he's in the grasp, Wilson throws it at TB feet. Incomplete pass and you've run 20 seconds off the clock.

Make or break season for Tom. I've looked over the schedule several times and can't find 7 wins, even if we catch some breaks. The defense is so sloooooooow.

It's the scheme that makes them look slower than they really are IMO. Manning sure as hell isn't slow. Earl Wolf runs a 4.3 40. Rashard Smith can fly. We all know how Nate plays.

I hope they switch up something with the scheme this year. Our guys are thinking too much and playing too slow out there.
