Quote : | "Motorola reportedly doing all Android in 2010 Posted on Wednesday, Jan 20, 2010 by Phil Nickinson
Motorola is among the top Android phone manufacturers right now, and it looks like it's going to increase its standing in 2010. CNet Asia spoke with Spiros Nikolakopoulos, VP and GM of Asia Pacific and International Distribution for Moto's Mobile Devices end, who says:
Look for 20 to 30 smartphones worldwide in 2010 "and, at this moment, all of them will run Android." (Sorry, Windows Mobile) One-third of Moto's Android engineering team is in the U.S., another third in Korea and another third in China. Now word on how many people that entails. The "Motoroi" brand is specifically for Korea. the Chinese version of the phone will go by a different name. (And we assume the U.S. version, too, if and when it comes here.) Opening up MotoBlur is "on the cards" (sic), but no time frame was given. Between the Droid, Cliq, Backflip and now the Motoroi (or whatever it ends up being called), we're certainly seeing loads of good Motorola fare on our end. And it looks like 2010 may have more in store. [CNet Asia via wmpoweruser]" |

all i gotta say is it's in their best interest to release 2.1 to the Droid & Eris BEFORE Apple's press-release.
the least they could do is get the Eris up to 2.0
apparently a minor OTA update to the Droid is being released now, but it's not 2.1, fixes some obscure fb issues. http://androinica.com/2010/01/21/ota-update-currently-rolling-out-for-the-motorola-droid/

Quote : | "Google: Nexus One 3G issues result of poor coverage, bugs; patch possibly within a week By Chris Ziegler posted Jan 25th 2010 at 6:01PM Looks like Google's investigation into the crappy 3G claims on the Nexus One are winding down, and it's a one-two combo of good news and bad news. First, the bad: preliminary findings suggest that poor 3G coverage factors into it, at least in part -- a believable story considering that T-Mobile has the smallest 3G footprint of the four US nationals. Now, the good: there's a software component to the problem, too, and the company says that it's already testing a fix. So far, testing is looking good -- so good, in fact, that an over-the-air update could be available "in the next week or so." It sucks that this partly boils down to crappy coverage, but we'll have to see where things stand after the patch gets rolled out -- and hopefully this'll serve as a high-profile reminder to T-Mobile that it needs to step on the gas (and to Google that it might want to expand its horizons)." |
lol. even google says Tmobile has crappy coverage. 1/25/2010 6:05:48 PM |

And there's apparently a possibility of that before years end.
http://www.mobitweak.com/content/10-more-confirmation-iphone-coming-verizon-sprint-thinks-so.html
Played with the Pre Plus today for about 45min or so and I don't think I'm returning the droid to get it. It won't really perform any better than the Sprint Pre to the average user even with twice the storage and memory, touchstone battery cover from the factory, touch sensitive home button instead of the ball, and a few hardware adjustments to the slider and keyboard. WebOS is nice but the cards are still kind of slow loading and the sliding mechanism for the keyboard snaps open and closed a little to easy for my taste and makes me wonder about the durability of it. For $149 it isn't bad but no way in hell I'd pay the $599 full retail on it.1/25/2010 7:36:28 PM |

^ Verizon nor sprint use sim cards except in the world phones and even then the sim isn't used on the us networks. Wonder if it'll be a cdma/gsm phone or if they have 2 different ones. A device that would give you 3G on any network would probably do well.

they'll have to make some new phones before that can happen...and yeah Sprint and Verizon don't use SIM cards
they only have a GSM phone right now, and it can't even use AT&T's 3G network, so in our area at least, for the time being, T-Mobile is it for the Nexus.

850/1900 MHz, 1xRTT + 1xEvDO should be verizon and sprint. The Tri-band UMTS/HSDPA should allow for 3G on tmobile and at&t.

ha, now the FCC is after google.
Quote : | "FCC expands ETF inquiry, fires off letters to AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Google By Chris Ziegler posted Jan 26th 2010 3:26PM Breaking News
Verizon might be getting picked on for introducing its whopper $350 "advanced device" ETF, but the FCC has decided that it wants answers from everyone on concerns that "there is no standard framework for structuring and applying ETFs throughout the wireless industry." The commission has sent letters (via fancy certified mail, in case you're wondering) to all of the other biggies -- AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile -- along with Google, asking a series of questions probing how each carrier's ETFs are determined and applied. Google gets roped in for its nasty equipment recovery fee, but all of the recipients share a common dubious distinction: the frickin' FCC -- a bureaucracy filled to the brim with lawyers and... well, bureaucrats -- can't figure out terms that everyday customers are expected to understand. Of course, most customers don't have the distinction of being able to send a certified letter to their carrier probing fees and require a prompt and complete response, so we're happy to see the feds get to the bottom of this. Sure, ETFs may ultimately prove to be completely justified in their current form considering the expense that carriers put up to subsidize hot hardware, it's true -- but regardless, it's in everyone's best interest to make sure they're spelled out in ways even FCC commissioners (and Engadget editors) can appreciate. " |
and looks like no wally-world nexus one for the time being

the mini usb on my old htc phone was not secure at all. you had to get it held just right for it to charge and the slightest movements while tethering would cause me to have to reconnect. the micro usb on my droid is a lot tighter. maybe that was just the phone and/or cable i had. 1/29/2010 8:35:18 AM |
