I've heard many different stories from aftermarket harnesses' inability to stand up to UV light (which is very accurate from experience. I can tear a 15 year old set of harnesses that were exposed to sunlight rather easily) to stretch/deformation limits. Racing harnesses do not have much give thus should be VERY tight when you're wearing them. The camlock argument is also true.
I believe Porsche's sold racing harnesses that were DOT approved (can still purchase these from your local dealer), they have an orange button for release where you would normally find a cam lock. They work fine. I've never seen them made of any color but black. 7/6/2012 3:34:21 PM |

I remember reading somewhere that they were less safe on the street since you are unable to slump in a rollover if the roof caves in. Not sure how much truth there is to that and I hope never to find out. 7/6/2012 4:03:55 PM |

My thoughts from someone who has daily driven a car with harnesses. (94 wrangler lifted and caged) 1 they get annoying to put on, at the very least it takes you 4 times longer then putting on a normal seatbelt. And usually one of the straps is a bitch to find or caught on something. 2 if you wear them right you can't do simple things like reach the radio and ac controls 3 if you wear them wrong you might as well just have a lap belt on because when they do catch you it will be like hitting a hard surface and you will probably end up with your loved ones wishing you had a Hans device too. 4 if you have harnesses and no cage.... You are a fucking moron. The only reason I would consider a harness in a daily driver is to makes sure my head doesn't hit the cage in an accident. No cage... No harness. This would also solve slut's issue because if the roof caves in with your cage, you had a shity one. If you get in an accident with a cage and a regular shoulder belt your cage will probably kill you. 7/7/2012 6:33:45 AM |

^ Yeah, I have another vehicle, so my S2000 wouldn't be daily driven, but more about driving to Autocrosses and track events, plus just cruising.
It's a bar, not a cage, so there's less risk of impacting it while not wearing a helmet, although still a risk.
Your point about wearing them right being inconvenient and wearing them wrong being pointless is spot on though.
I definitely just came to the conclusion that the S2000 needs to be all or nothing in terms of being a trackable car, and I'm not ready to deal with a tow vehicle yet, so having a hardtop car that can be tracked in basically street form will work best for me for a few years.
Yet another point about why I wish Honda built the S2000 as a coupe, heh. 7/7/2012 3:09:59 PM |

In other news, a friend of a friend is trying to get rid of a BSP prepped '97 M3 sedan. I know Ahmet prefers the sedans, anyone else have thoughts? Anyone know if the sedans have more headroom? 7/9/2012 2:07:15 PM |

Color is a big factor. This one looks stupid:
Not a big fan of spoilers in general, but while this one doesn't look too horrible I don't like them on sedans.
roof racks also look stupid.
this one actually looks pretty decent.
another retarded spoiler.
shit like this, stupid rims
not the biggest fan of ambered turn signals. refer clear with the amber lights.
more stupid spoilers
more stupid rims
this one actually looks good.

i'll give the e36 this: more than half of what i don't like about it, is just shit people did to it aftermarket. the ones i see around town usually don't look that bad outside of the fact most people don't take proper care of them. 7/10/2012 7:47:56 PM |

e36 sedans are much better proportioned than the coupes. apparently they are stiffer as well (thats what she said)
also aftermarket angel eyes are awful, roof racks are great. 7/10/2012 8:06:18 PM |

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
USA gets 4 cyl turbo diesel!!! this is epic!
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=717786
Quote : | "BMW has confirmed that two diesel engines will be making their way to the US.
One is a 2.0L single-turbo twinscroll 4 cylinder direct injection diesel engine outputting 180 HP and 280 LB-FT torque, the same stats as the N47 engine which currently powers the F30 320d and F10 520d. As for consumption and performance, the 320d, for example, achieves an impressive 52.2 combined MPG (US) (40.5 city / 61.8 hwy), with a factory claimed 7.1 secs 0-60 mph.
The other diesel will be a 3.0L twinscroll 6 cylinder turbo outputting 255 HP (no official torque number yet, but expect 400+ lb-ft torque). This will be an all new engine not seen before in any other models.
These engines will be paired with 8 speed automatics and make use of SCR technology (urea based "selective catalyst reduction") to meet the stringent US diesel emission standards.
BMW has not yet confirmed which models will receive these engines, but they may see duty in a future 225d, 325d, 525d, 235d, 335d or 535d, as well as their counterparts in the xDrive models.
The F30 3 Series lineup will likely be the first models to use the new engines. " |
