Lately when I've been going back to the spawn point via the command the ground hasn't been loading yet and you can see all the tunnels beneath the spawn. It's pretty awesome. I'll try to get a screen shot of it.

I see the Hell dimension like running the gambit, it'll be hilarious.
We'll have the different Townships set up on the new server, and we can make Hell pathways that traverse from each populated area to the other.
But when you get into Hell you're on your own. Dash for the finish! 10/25/2010 3:06:41 AM |

inefficient graphics pipelines engines are inefficient.
It's an alpha of a game by one dude. WoW was developed by an army of professional designers, and specifically designed to run on shitty hardware.
I'm still kicking myself for paying for an alpha. It's sorta fun, but clearly missing a lot of functionality and playability.

I believe Notch has said that old maps/saves will work with all of the Oct31 updates, only stipulation is that biomes won't generate on already discovered terrain but will on any undiscovered areas.10/25/2010 10:13:34 AM |

How old is your laptop? I doubt it can run 25 man raids and can't play Minecraft. My friend just built a computer specifically for raiding and it took quite a bit of overclocking to get wow to run maxed out in a 25 man raid. Wow is horribly CPU reliant as is Minecraft but I've seen Minecraft run on some pretty shitty single core laptops.10/25/2010 1:40:59 PM |

^^ Be my guest?
I apologize that I have other things to do, most of them more important than tending to your needs. I haven't been worrying about the server much recently because anything that happens now is going to be pointless when a new map goes up after the update. Also looking into an interface for people to work on whitelist and banning without worrying about in-game commands.
In other words. Fuck off and I'll get to it shortly. I have no real stake in the server; I have no issue running it for the community, but if someone else wants to get pestered about it they're welcome to do so. 10/27/2010 2:07:57 PM |

^^Cool video. I kinda feel like the biomes seem pretty small (especially desert), and feel like it would be much more natural for gradual climate shifts and bigger zones overall. Something about being able to see your snow zone quickly transition into jungle or desert seems weird. 10/27/2010 10:25:38 PM |

That would be good. I'm don't think it's unreasonable to ask to be able to participate in the community, and get a response within TWO WEEKS.
I understand the whole point that a new version will be out in a couple of days. Just wanted to get familiar with SMP before the big new update hit, but I guess I'll wait just like I have been already 10/27/2010 10:52:59 PM |

The video actually goes so fast/is at such a high angle that you can't see a lot of the more subtle transitions. I'm not positive, but it looked like he even added a bunch of different leaf and grass shades for seasons and biome areas.
Even though there's only 3 or 4 obvious ones in that video, here's the full list of biomes: - rainforest - temperate rainforest - seasonal forest - forest - savanna - shrubland - taiga - desert - grass desert - ice desert - tundra10/28/2010 6:08:25 AM |
EuroTitToss All American 4790 Posts user info edit post |
I'm curious to know if the biomes will really look much different. It was hard to tell from the video.
I think there should items/blocks you can only get in certain biomes, thus giving you an incentive to explore.

You can only get snowballs in snow regions. You evidently have a much higher chance of finding cacti in the desert (video). There are a shit ton of trees in the forest and jungles.
Aside from that, unique blocks would be cool as fuck 10/28/2010 11:01:02 AM |
EuroTitToss All American 4790 Posts user info edit post |
Yea the thing is snowballs are useless and trees aren't that rare (especially since you can grow your own). 10/28/2010 11:06:04 AM |

Alright, a few tweaks.
-Whitelist updated -Build access given by default. If people get whitelisted and run off to fuck things up, oh well. -Added new group: restricted; to remove build access if needed. -Server restarted. Should be smooth again. -Fixed the /whitelist command for mods. Fuck-up on my part, but it should work fine now.
Going to try to launch the new map sometime next week. Hopefully the spawn will be laid out this weekend, and spruced up by public launch. One we have the layout ready, people are welcome to help with spawn before we push the map to the server.
As I said before: When the new map goes live there will be some new rules. Nothing at all unreasonable, but I'll be strict about them for everyone's sake. Mostly pertains to personal construction in the spawn area.
Any other issues let me know. Should be able to keep an eye on things this weekend if I'm not too busy or drunk. 10/28/2010 2:45:30 PM |
