Re: if politicians had to do this, this wouldn't exist

http://www.infowars.com/ron-paul-crotch-groped-by-tsa-calls-for-boycott-of-airlines/

Quote :
"Congressman Paul said in the course of his work representing the people of Texas he has to endure TSA abuse, including the latest “enhanced pat down” that verges on sexual molestation. “I have to go through that all the time because I have metal in my knees,” he explained. “I get prodded all the time and it is disgusting and I tell them so.”

When asked by Alex Jones if the TSA had subjected him to an “enhanced” screening, Ron Paul answered yes.

“Specifically,” Alex asked, “have you had the enhanced pat down, sir? Have they touched your crotch?”

“Yes. Absolutely, and like I said, absolutely disgusting,” Paul responded.

Fresh food that lasts from eFoods Direct (Ad)

He said he believes a boycott of the airlines will be necessary if we are going to force the government to back down and stop acting like a sexual predator. “I am going to be doing everything conceivable to try to change these rules because they are not making us safer, they aren’t better for us – it’s just to enhance the power of the state.”"

This is interesting....

Fliers Claim TSA Have Deactivated Body Scanners [Updated]According to tweeting travelers, many backscatter and millimeter-wave AIT scanning machines at airports are not in use at all, making opting out impossible. We've asked DHS/TSA for comment, but you can help us confirm.
...

Update: The TSA Press Secretary Nicholas Kimball responded to my inquiry—"Was there any sort of TSA-wide policy to not use the machines today or is this an airport-by-airport decision?"—with this statement: "No. Nothing to this at all.""

Expanding the use of full-body scanners at airports will improve the nation’s security, says the Obama administration.

It also will benefit the manufacturers of the equipment, including those lobbying on their behalf, like former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

^^ i see your point, but the point of the scanners is to eliminate the need for the fondling...

^ i really like that, i wonder how clear it is on a back-scatter though.

Reports are saying the body scanners were roped off and the pat downs were rolled back to the previous version. Anyone know if this is permanent?

And now we have this:

http://blogs.forbes.com/andygreenberg/2010/08/24/full-body-scan-technology-deployed-in-street-roving-vans/

Quote :
"Full-Body Scan Technology Deployed In Street-Roving Vans

By ANDY GREENBERG

As the privacy controversy around full-body security scans begins to simmer, it’s worth noting that courthouses and airport security checkpoints aren’t the only places where backscatter x-ray vision is being deployed. The same technology, capable of seeing through clothes and walls, has also been rolling out on U.S. streets.

American Science & Engineering, a company based in Billerica, Massachusetts, has sold U.S. and foreign government agencies more than 500 backscatter x-ray scanners mounted in vans that can be driven past neighboring vehicles to see their contents, Joe Reiss, a vice president of marketing at the company told me in an interview. While the biggest buyer of AS&E’s machines over the last seven years has been the Department of Defense operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, Reiss says law enforcement agencies have also deployed the vans to search for vehicle-based bombs in the U.S.

“This product is now the largest selling cargo and vehicle inspection system ever,” says Reiss.

LOOK IF YOU DON'T WANT YOUR HOUSE SCANNED, DON'T BUILD IT WITHIN A MUNICIPALITY

Police already use infrared cameras to scan houses from the street or air to detect the presence of marijuana grow lights. It's illegal but widely practiced.

LOOK, IF YOU DON'T WANT YOUR VEHICLE SCANNED, THEN DON'T DRIVE ON PUBLIC ROADS

The Highway Patrol also uses infrared cameras to check the amount of heat generated by tractor trailer truck brakes. If one set of brakes is faulty they will ticket the driver.

Hahaha welcome to the future mother fuckers!

Just wait, the authoritarian kru is going to rush in here to defend full-fledged government intrusion into every aspect of your life

We are not a mature enough species/culture to handle full intrusion. Eventually we WON'T have any privacy, but if this is true, then people are going to have to be a lot more tolerant than they are.

just because it exists doesn't mean it's going to be used to go driving through suburbia to get x-ray nudies of children

likely it will be deployed in areas deemed "high risk" for bombs and such (and as demonstrated, to prevent the smuggling of illegals)...of course people may disagree with the definition of "high risk," but it's a far cry from blanket scanning all of america

do i think the government will accomplish anything? no...do i think that fact makes (or will make) the practice a waste of time and resources, and an invasion of privacy? yes...do i care overmuch? no.

i don't care OVERMUCH...i care insofar as it doesn't affect me (which this won't since i'm not trafficking weapons or illegals, or setting up bombs in my car)

that said, i don't believe this is a slippery slope...rather, i think it's call to action for folks like McDanger and indy...they'll get all up in arms and protect my "liberties" while i have better things to do

The vehicle scanners are more intended to search your car or your house as it drives by with or without your consent.

i agree with this 100%...it may sound like i was mocking McDanger and indy, but i wasn't...given how much they bitch about government and liberties and all that jazz, i have to assume that they ARE the kind of people who get up and do something...otherwise, they're just whiners with too much free time on their hands

i don't bitch like they do precisely because i'm not going to do anything about it (not currently, anyway, as i don't feel particularly threatened)...i have a great deal of respect for those with loud voices and the balls to back them up with action, but a great disdain for those with loud voices who do nothing but rant on teh intarwebs and expect to be listened to just because they whine louder and more frequently than everyone else

It does not matter what the original intentions for the technology/spy-framework is. It can be used however the people in charge feel once it's in place. This is what you can't understand.

oh, i can understand it just fine...i can also understand that by that logic, production of guns for self-defense should not be allowed because then the people WITH the guns can then do whatever they want

most, if not all, technology can be used to violate or hurt others...this isn't limited to the federal government

Of course not, but most people can't imprison you for life and strip you of all of your belongings without any consequences

that's certainly an extremist viewpoint you have there, don't you think? i'm not surprised...but do you really think the number of people that the fed does this to (by your all-knowing estimation, of course) outnumbers those that get away with murder? or rape? or any number of other crimes that severely affect another person?

Quote :

by all means, point out that our government SHOULD be unbiased, SHOULD exist solely to represent the will of the people, and SHOULD protect their life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness...and that it SHOULD only interfere with their lives insofar as to protect these basic rights

then, do us all a favor and open your eyes...you are a fucking moron to believe that this is even remotely possible...a government can be no better than the people that make up the population and people as a whole are only so good as they have to be

the government cannot and will not be better than this until society changes...as you've noted, we are not there as a species and will not be in our lifetimes...yes, it has to begin somewhere...but you have to know when to pick your battles

you fight this one because it bothers you so much, and i'll sit back and watch

Um, what? Haha. We have secret prisons in this country. How long until a citizen ends up in one? Or rather I should say, how many have we put there already?

I have no idea what makes the rest of your rant relevant, maybe you can help me out. (That is, unless you think common-place violence justifies governmental violence, so long as it's not on the same scale.)

you sit behind your computer screen and get so damn frustrated at all those people who just don't see the OBVIOUS truth you see...it must drive you nuts

i'm about to head out to eat at my smoke-free-by-law restaurant (take that, liberty to poison yourself and others!) and enjoy a nice dinner not worrying about stupid things like whether some underpaid TSA can see my average-sized junk...and then i'll drive home in my car, not worrying about whether some super secret agent is secretly scanning me and noticing absolutely nothing out of the ordinary...then i'll go to bed and sleep helluva lot better than you must with all the nightmares you have about the gubment taking your liberties left and right

I've done precisely what I can do about it. Write politicians, call the airport and complain, and not fly. Not sure what else is at my disposal. I suppose I could fly and simply make TSA workers' lives a living hell by humiliating them personally for doing a despicable job, but I'd rather not fly instead. We'll see how long that lasts as I will eventually have business outside of the country.

I like how you mock me for getting worked up about a legitimate issue as if your apathy is anything other than limp-wristed Gen-Y bullshit. Oh wow look at you. You're so above the fray. How cool.
