i'll be one of the guys that keeps bringing up tracy.

i think he would have made a huge difference in that game. we probably still would have been beaten soundly, but it wouldn't have been nearly as embarrassing. we played hard for a while, our bigs got in foul trouble, and the team fell aprart, quick-like.

It is better to be exposed by Wisconsin now. By the time conference game starts we'll have Tracy back and hopefully the young players will adjust to college game.

These tough OOC games are really good learning opportunity. They'll grow real fast after those games. One thing I hate to see though, is the lack of toughness, foul hard if we are gonna called anyways!

I still think he is going to be a great player, but he needs to work on some fundamentals which he is not going to learn on the damn bench. The first bucket was nice tonight he was patient, backed his man down and got a nice shot off going towards the basket. Granted the next possession he reverted back to street ball, but the guy is young.

Sid needs to play to our strengths and stop with his slow ass NBA type offense. We are a young and athletic team, so let's get up and press for 3/4 of the game. And push the ball even after made baskets.

Don't confuse "white" with unathletic. Those guys were significantly more physical than us and they moved well without the ball. Those guys run their shit well and their bigs are in much better condition than Vandy and Howell. Painter looks to be in great shape but he just has no control yet.


That said, no excuses, we still should have put up a better fight. That was fucking pathetic, even considering the 17 minutes without a foul for Wisconson. Foul being called fairly in that game only make it a 25 point blowout...just with less to bitch about.

From what I saw of the game (had to miss some of it thanks to work/traveling/dinner):
-Part of it was Wisconsin just shooting very well. They had a lot of open shots, but they seemed to be hitting everything.
-Part of it was Wisconsin's experience vs. our youth. When things weren't going our way we kinda just fell apart, a la the GT game only it started in the first half
-I think with Tracy's leadership this game is much closer. We probably don't win (don't let their early 2 losses fool you, they're a good veteran team with a good coach playing in a place they haven't lost often in the last few years) but it's closer just because he steps up and makes some plays and keeps us in it mentally.
-Didn't seem like we could buy a call for much of the game
-CJ Leslie will not be a good basketball player at this level until he figures out that he can't rely solely on his athleticism anymore. Sure he's more athletic than anyone he'll face this year, but if the other guy is well coached they're athletic enough to stop him since Leslie plays out of control and forces things.
-We need to rebound better. It's 90% effort and positioning, and obviously that effort wasn't there tonight
-We don't stand a chance against Syracuse unless someone steps up and takes this team on their shoulders. Javy and Brown are most likely, but Wood is a close 3 if I had to give odds. Without Tracy Smith we fold as soon as we start making little mistakes, someone needs to take control of the game when players start making little mistakes, end their runs, and keep us from mentally checking out.

Last night was just pathetic. What I saw was a team that got down early and just completely gave up. Granted, Wisconsin had one of those nights where they were on and would have hit shots from the parking lot and that happens. However, a lot of this was just a complete lack of effort on our part. Shot selection was horrible and we have no identity, no leadership, and we have no idea how to play defense. Princeton would kick the shit out of us because our guys have no idea what to do when someone sets a screen on us. Lowe looks like he has no passion whatsoever. The officiating was horrible. Maybe its just me, but I don't have a problem when a coach gets T'd up in an attempt to fire up his team. I'm not saying go "Bobby Knight" and throw a chair across the court, but get in the refs ear and tell him you think he is full of shit. Do something, don't just stand there on the sideline and shake your head. Another thing Lowe you can't carry your timeouts to the next half/game. Use them.
