#1 Carmelo kinda sucks this season. This is his worst year if you label him as a PF (not really his fault I'll admit). The Knicks are good because Tyson Chandler is dominating.

Surprised no one saw the Forbes ranking of Carmelo as the most overpaid player in the NBA this season.

#2 Okay. "sucks" was the wrong word to use for Gallinari. He's slightly above average. I just hate him and Karl for sucking so bad in the playoffs last year.

The fact is the Nuggets won't be a fundamentally different team without Gallinari, unless Karl starts playing Wilson Chandler in his place. That guy is awful.

#3 I don't recall ever saying the Clippers were terrible? They are a very good team and CPIII is right there with Lebron as the best player in the NBA this season. I don't see them getting by SAS or OKC, but it's possible. Their depth is one of their big strengths and that advantage gets mitigated a lot in the postseason. They'd be much better if Caron would get injured again though, he's a killer at this point of his career.

#4 Westbrook doesn't SUCK. He's an above average PG this year. Slightly better than last but still not one of the elite obviously. And keeping him over Harden will haunt them for years. Although Sefolosha has had another great season to help mitigate that loss.

define "right there"

because I don't think there is any basketball playing human who is even close to Lebron right now

Well, i think the Chris Paul of this season (if he'd stayed healthy and not missed so many games) would be the legitimate MVP in any other season since Shaq's prime...

He's been THAT good.

17ppg on 14.45 shots (12.1 FGA + 4.7/2 FTA) is ridiculously efficient for a PG.

They've been saving him for the playoffs and limiting his minutes so his totals don't look as impressive as his per48 minute stats are but he's averaging

3.7 reb, 9.6 ast, 2.4 steals, and 2.3 turnovers in only 33 minutes a game. His rebs are strong for a PG, his ast/to rate is immaculate, and his steal rate remains one of the best of all-time. There simply isn't a better net possessions guy in the league and we all know at the NBA level number of possessions created along with scoring efficiency are the best determinants of wins/losses.

I'm not a former NBA MVP, but the way I understand it, he'd be much more likely to re-aggravate the injury making all the lateral cuts it would take to play in a game than just jumping up for a dunk in warmups

Tobias Harris had 30 pts, 19 rebounds and 5 assists and Vucevic had 30 pts, 20 rebounds, 5 assists for the Magic. Lots of astounding numbers in that game.

Only way Knicks play Chicago is if the Bulls beat the Heat.

I don't think the Knicks can beat Miami in the playoffs but why should the Knicks focus on a team they have no chance of playing.

Its not really carmelos fault that he sucks as a PF. Hes being asked to play out of position.

As a sf hed be alright this year probably. Still not a superstar or anything he just doesn't generate net possessions. Hes a relatively efficient scorer but not unbelievably so.

something needs to be done. Reduce the season to 2 games per week like soccer. There are way too many injuries the last few years.

I'm talking like 7 of the top 10 players have had serious injuries. Killing the game.

i wasn't saying he raped that girl. I was just saying this is the worst thing to happen to him since being falsely charged for rape. Both events were terrible things that happened and robbed him of a lot of opportunities. This pretty much robs him of a chance at 2 more championships and maybe the last game of his career.

i cant imagine he'll ever be an effective nba player again.

he was pretty washed up the last couple of years before getting nash/howard helped revitalize him by taking him off the ball.

Now that his declining athleticism is basically gone and he's had years of steroid use i just can't imagine his body recovering. His only true remaining skill will be shooting and he's just not going to be that effective as a spot up shooter.

Funeral.

This is such BS! All the training and sacrifice just flew out the window with one step that I've done millions of times! The frustration is unbearable. The anger is rage. Why the hell did this happen ?!? Makes no damn sense. Now I'm supposed to come back from this and be the same player Or better at 35?!? How in the world am I supposed to do that??
I have NO CLUE. Do I have the consistent will to overcome this thing? Maybe I should break out the rocking chair and reminisce on the career that was. Maybe this is how my book ends. Maybe Father Time has defeated me...Then again maybe not! It's 3:30am, my foot feels like dead weight, my head is spinning from the pain meds and I'm wide awake. Forgive my Venting but what's the purpose of social media if I won't bring it to you Real No Image?? Feels good to vent, let it out. To feel as if THIS is the WORST thing EVER! Because After ALL the venting, a real perspective sets in. There are far greater issues/challenges in the world then a torn achilles. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, find the silver lining and get to work with the same belief, same drive and same conviction as ever.
One day, the beginning of a new career journey will commence. Today is NOT that day.
"If you see me in a fight with a bear, prey for the bear". Ive always loved that quote. Thats "mamba mentality" we don't quit, we don't cower, we don't run. We endure and conquer.
I know it's a long post but I'm Facebook Venting LOL. Maybe now I can actually get some sleep and be excited for surgery tomorrow. First step of a new challenge.
Guess I will be Coach Vino the rest of this season. I have faith in my teammates. They will come thru.
Thank you for all your prayers and support. Much Love Always.

have to admire his drive, no one has ever questioned his effort.

He's just one of those guys who wants to win so bad sometimes he doesn't realize he's hurting the team by trying to do more than he's capable of.

I'm positive he'll be downright terrible if he ever makes a comeback because he'll try to be the old Kobe again instead of re-inventing himself as a role player like he needed to do 5 years ago.

I think it was Phil Jackson that said he feels sorry for whoever has to coach Kobe in his last couple seasons because the guy just can't recognize that it's gone.

birdman was the biggest midseason addition in the nba probably. the guy isn't the superstar he used to be but he's still really good and fills miami's biggest weakness.

Carmelo has had a tough season like i said due to being required to play PF. That's not really his fault, just a constraint of being on a team without a legitimate PF. His numbers are okay if you label him a small forward. He just is what he is at this point most likely, never going to put it all together and become a star.

Kobe was having a solid season. Like I said prior to the year, I expected him to be much more effective by limiting his touches. He just didn't have the energy or ability when the ball was in his hands so much. His turnovers and poor shot selection just decimated his ability to be an effective basketball player the last couple of seasons.

? Kenyon Martin has been a slightly above average player this year (after really sucking it up in LAC last year) but not that close to Birdman's level.

Martin has been inconsistent his whole career and he's without a doubt one of the least productive #1 picks of all-time but I wouldn't really label him a bust since the 2000 NBA draft was by far the worst draft ever. Several college teams over the past 3 decades could probably hang with an all-star team from that draft.

If you're interested Bargnani is by far the worst #1 pick ever and it's unlikely he'll ever be topped considering his stats are so preposterously bad. It's just too unlikely that anyone that bad will ever be given as many minutes as he got to rack up so many negative wins produced. He is the walking definition of a "sunk cost" and Toronto should have given up on that experiment a half decade ago, he is the main reason they have been irrelevant for so long. I believe he's the all-time leader in negative wins in NBA history actually.

Quote :
" In the 2010-11 season, Bargnani was outrebounded by Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant, Thabo Sefolosha, J.R. Smith, Josh Childress, and Alonzo Gee. Each of these players also managed to shoot more efficiently than Bargnani, meaning that it was feasible that these six shooting guards would make a better centre than Bargnani.

Well, fast forward to this year. A tweet by Eric Koreen reminded me to investigate Bargnani’s statistics now that his season is over. I know it’s a shock, but he still can’t rebound, and he’s still one of the league’s least productive players. But he’s actually managed to become worse at rebounding and shooting! We actually have to lower the bar because too many guards — 29 — have outrebounded Bargnani this year.
From the 1979-80 season to the 2012-13 season, Bargnani has the fourth worst career rebounding rate of any 7-footer. "

Simply astounding. Colangelo has to be the worst general manager in the NBA.

Kobe getting injured is a BIG break for the Lakers though.

They'll save $145 million by using their amnesty on him. $30M in his salary and an additional $115M in luxury taxes they were due to pay. If they can dump Pau/Artest they can start their rebounding project around Dwight one year early and save a nutload of cash.

It will be interesting to see where he winds up next year.

1) Will he be willing to sign for the veteran minimum somewhere like Miami or OKC to try to coattail his way to another title?

2) Would he take the midlevel exception to play for a solid team in a big market (think Chi, NYK) where he thinks he can help them win a title (incorrectly obviously).

3) Will he go somewhere like Charlotte that needs the attendance draw and might be willing to overpay him for something like $8M a year and he can be the alpha male?

My guess is #2 is most likely, followed by #1, and #3 a distant third.

Kobe on Chicago or NYK would be the end of times. Those teams are already loaded at every other position.

The lakers won't amnesty him. He's meant too much to the franchise for them to let him go that way.

^^ lol, yeah man it's just unquantifiable. You've smoked yourself stupid. How many rainbows has he shit out of his ass tree? We'll never truly know that either i guess

if the Lakers don't amnesty him that's like the dumbest move of all-time. He still gets the $30 million either way and they save the $115M (i messed up earlier saying they'd save his $30M. they'd save it in CAP space but not in real dollars).

And Kobe in all likelihood is DONE as a productive NBA player. He may never even produce positive wins again. That's the thing about steroids they can prolong your career by enhancing your recovery time and your workload capacity, but when the body breaks down it BREAKS DOWN.

Look at Barry Bonds for example. It's over.

Kobe hasn't been very good the past several seasons but he was solid this year. I said all along I thought Nash/Howard would help rejuvenate him.

But don't act like he's an all-time great right now or anything. The Lakers are a .500 team, remember?

Kobe has had a remarkable career in terms of longevity as a productive player, but he's never been one of the top 5 players in the league at any given moment in terms of production. In terms of talent/skill level you could make that argument but not productivity.

Players in their peak years like Lebron, Durant, Paul, Kidd, Duncan, Shaq, TMAC, Garnett and others production has DWARVED Kobe's production in his peak years.

That being said collectively he is 3rd in all time wins produced as a shooting guard. Jordan and Drexler are well ahead, but Kobe is 3rd by quite a bit IIRC.

Let's remember that in the 3 years after Shaq left before they got Gasol the Lakers were under .500!

Lebron took a Cleveland team that won 18 games without him to 62 wins.

Kobe could never do anything like that. His best season 2003-2004 he was .207 wins produced.

Lebron is double that this year (DOUBLE! .30 is the threshold for superduperstar. I'm not sure what .40 should be called. Maybe simply LEBRON since no one has ever replicated that in the modern era).

Durant is almost 50% higher than that this year. And we're talking about Kobe's best season ever.
